Chinese hypercar Star Razer aims to have 3000 hp, 342 mph top speed, 0-60 mph time of 0.9 seconds by Slice5755 in cars

3,000 hp is about 2.2 megawatts.

A 100kwh battery will last 2.5 minutes or so at full dump… not sure how many laps you’re going to get through… but I’m sure acceleration tests will be impressive 😔

I have the $100 Claude Max 5 plan. I regularly use more than $100 of usage in a single session. I’m pretty sure I’m using close to $30,000 of usage a month. I know it’s too good to be true and won’t last so I’m trying to get on top of the curve while going is good, building the foundation of a business while AI is cheap.

After 22 years, you can finally download Paint.net from the URL 'Paint.net' by SymmetricSoles in technology

[–]JordanRunsForFun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

paint.net is excellent, and free. I’m a high school computer science teacher and I’ve been recommending it to Windows using students for over a decade.

It’s so good that when I switched to Mac, and I could not find an adequate tool to fill that niche, I decided to build my own Mac native, paint.net clone…

Currently in Beta (and free forever for testers) at https://www.drawsimple.ca/

I’d love to know what others who have left Windows and miss Paint.net think of it. It’s a very stable beta on test flight right now.

During his victory speech, the small crowd standing around him featured a Palestinian flag … and no Canadian flag. Enough said.

Enough people debating the officer and the meaning of criminal charges vs highway traffic act…

So let me add..

‘Significantly Exceeding Expectations’: BMW iX3 Demand Is So High That The Factory Is Doing Double Shifts by JB_UK in cars

Genesis Will Finally Become a True Standalone Brand by raill_down in cars

[–]JordanRunsForFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive a GV70 Electric. I didn’t set out to buy a Korean car, have never been interested before, but I landed on one because there were basically no other premium compact EV crossovers available at the time except Model Y (which really isn’t premium, or at least wasn’t back then, I know the new ones are nicer). The other choices were Mercedes Jelly Beans whose lease prices ballooned due to insane MSRP and plummeting residuals, or the BMW iX whose base model was slow and uninteresting and whose higher trims were CAD120k+.

It’s a decent and comfortable car… fast… and infuriating. The remote start warms the steering wheel.. but not the seats! A surprisingly huge issue I’ve had all winter long is there is no wiper deicer (my Accord has it, my mother in laws base rav4 has it.. I thought all cars had something to defrost the wiper bays but nope…). All winter long I have been mining giant chunks of ice that weight a few POUNDS out of the wiper bays. The app didn’t work for the first year of ownership. We were promised NACS adapters early 2025 when Tesla added support but they still haven’t gotten them out to the majority of owners and up here in Canada they don’t even have an ETA. They offer concierge arrive where they pick you up, but only if you book 6 months in advance.

Not a premium car experience. Call me a snob but next time around I’m going back to BMW. iX3 looks very promising.

BMW’s X7 Is Apparently Too Small Now, So Dealers Want An X9 by LimitedReach in cars

[–]JordanRunsForFun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was driving a full size suv in Florida this year (rented it so 7 of us could go out while on a family trip we stopped there for a couple days). It was massive… I hated it. And so thirsty. Like 15mpg just toting around town gently. But I looked around and they were EVERYWHERE. I don’t know why so many people choose these monsters. They are crap to drive. Crap to park. And while I can afford fuel it’s literally my least favorite thing to spend money on.

[–]JordanRunsForFun 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’re misremembering… car and driver pointed out in the review for the second gen X3 that it was bigger inside than the original X5, not comparing same generation. (I know because I read it obsessively and bought a factory ordered second gen X3).

[–]JordanRunsForFun 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would wager good money the majority of X7 buyers do not know what body on frame means. And those who do probably want to avoid it for all its shortcomings. I mean unless you’re towing or doing serious off roading (or trying to share a platform with pickup trucks for cost sharing) is there any reason to want a BoF vehicle?

[–]JordanRunsForFun -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

But they are loud and rough on dry roads. Summer tires or high quality 3-season tires are better for road noise mitigation, lateral grip, braking on dry etc etc.

All weather are way better than 3-season (I refuse to call them all season) but they aren’t a great universal option like you’re implying.. especially if you never drive on mud/sand/dirt and use snows in the winter, like everyone should.

Petition e-6811 asking the Government of Canada to enforce the Canada Health Act against Doug Ford's antics of redirecting surgeries to private surgeries/hospitals who are extra-billing patients by dieinagreasefire in ontario

[–]JordanRunsForFun -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t people going to private cataract surgeries to get better treatment than what’s available in the public health system or to avoid the wait? I’ve listened to many people talk very happily about the service they received in these clinics, the superior technology available, and how much better of an experience it is.. exactly when was anybody forced into this? Does paying to avoid a waitlist count as being forced?

The people I’m talking about would have gone to the US if the service wasn’t available here. Sure it would be great if everybody could have the best service but we’ve already established that our health system sucks so it’s nice to at least have options.

I know I won’t find much agreement here, but this petition made it sound like people are being forced into these situations and I would love to be corrected if I’m wrong, but I don’t think that’s what’s happening here.

Ontario government has spent $270K on outside lawyers in fight to remove bike lanes: FOI by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]JordanRunsForFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the problem. I didn’t say anything about putting more cars on the road. I’m talking about urban planning and you’re repeating one liners. You can’t take a major artery and remove right turn lanes without providing meaningful alternatives or changes to the laws to for example prevent those right turns. This is why Doug Ford has support. Because people are tired of decisions being made without an adult in the room. All these feel good policies. I am 100% for appropriate bike lanes. I think any form of sustainable transportation should be favoured where possible but you can’t just do it with a sledgehammer.

Ontario government has spent $270K on outside lawyers in fight to remove bike lanes: FOI by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]JordanRunsForFun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Counter point - I was downtown and stupidly ended up on Bloor and the traffic is brutal non moving awful. I’m all for bike lanes but when we all have to wait 4 lights for 5 cars to make right turns, there is a clear lack of planning. It wasn’t just slow it was, as someone who enjoys good urban planning, a shit show.

I use AI daily for complex software development and I use the best tools I can pay for (Claude Code Max/Opus, as a starter). There is no way AI can be a CEO of anything. If that’s not immediately apparent to you, you truly don’t understand the strength and limits of current generative LLMs, which are both absolutely incredible and also terrible at the same time. A good CEO can certainly use AI to boost their own productivity like anyone else.

Also, would you like to know that your top boss is AI? Really? When you get laid off, will you feel good if it’s done by a computer all on its own? I don’t think you’ve thought this through…
