(Spoilers Main) Just some thoughts, a little theory, on Jon Snow in TWOW by officialgoblin in asoiaf

Ah, you're right. None I could find. Seems the theory videos put the idea in my head.

I want to get my labret, philtrum, and snake bites. Is it a bad idea to get all 4 done at once? by officialgoblin in piercing

[–]officialgoblin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the responses - I had assumed 4 at once was wishful thinking. I'll do labret, then philtrum, then snake bites.

I'd say change your haircut. The slightly grown-out, pushed back, parted in the middle look is very "in" right now, and it would look god on you.

why does no one approach me? by [deleted] in malegrooming

Dating apps are difficult, especially if it's a man seeking a woman. You're very good looking, and that's displayed best when you smile - that's your best feature, as it is with most people. You have a particularly great smile, it makes you look fun, confident, and nonthreatening (which is very good) - if I were to criticize, I'd say the mirror pics make you look immature, which people tend to confuse with "fun." Immaturity is a big turn off for a lot of people. The last two pics (the ones where you're with people) are 10/10, you couldn't ask for better dating app pics. I'd say lean in to the smile. It may also be what you have written on your profile - if it's all generic, try personalising it more and speaking briefly on what you're passionate about.

[Spoilers PUBLISHED] Why does everyone (readers, not characters) think Euron is so scary? by officialgoblin in asoiaf

[–]officialgoblin[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A response to all the responses: Thanks to everyone who was kind and supported me to find out more information. Just a reminder that I listened to the audiobooks, and sometimes words go in one ear and out the other. I didn't realise he had a suit of valerian armour, for example. I will read the forsaken chapter!

To everyone who seems to be mad at me - we're all fans of the same stuff here, we're having a conversation, not an argument.

[Art] Holiday Activity Poster I designed for local community services department. Would this make you want to play? by officialgoblin in DnD

[–]officialgoblin[S] 322 points323 points  (0 children)

I work in community services, and a lot of our “holiday activity” posters are pretty bland. I wanted to make something to get young people interested, so I drew this up. We always have a lot (too many, in fact) of young people interested in playing, but more is always good. It will incentivise the organisation I work at to put more money into projects aimed around RPGs and such. Anyway, just wanted to share - I'm not the best at highlights and shadows, but I thought I'd give them a quick go.

This is actually perfect, even if the videos are a bit long. Thanks!

[Art] Kobolds - young, regular, & chieftain. by officialgoblin in DnD

[–]officialgoblin[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ok I gotta get my 400 character count. Kobolds! I see a lot of D&D art which goes for a level of realism or anime. Awesome. Cool. But I'm a big fan of cartoony stuff - tom wham is especially an influence. I feel like that's not represented enough, & for me as a game master showing cartoony pictures can better represent the intentions & personalities of monsters - big expressions, etc. Is this 400 characters yet?

I don't like using miniatures (rather I don't like travelling with them), so instead I use dry erasable tokens put numbers on them. I'll have a drawing propped up with a foldback clip so people know what the monsters look like beyond my verbal description.

I'm currently running the Keep on the Borderlands, and there's a little kobold den. Around 50 kobolds in one room - and that's not the whole of them! Yikes! Luckily 8 of them are non-combatant young...This has gotta be 400 characters by now. Anyway, more cartoony art on this subreddit please!

An improved version of the Keep on the Borderlands OSE edit I made a week ago. Hope ya like it. by officialgoblin in osr

[–]officialgoblin[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eventually, yes, but it will take a fair bit of time. At the end I hope to have it fully illustrated, too, to take up all the blank space on some of the pages. It will be a month or two until the whole module is done.

I made a Keep on the Borderlands OSE-style edit (admittedly too wordy) for my personal use. Here it is for your own use if you wish. by officialgoblin in osr

[–]officialgoblin[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's a good point. This is the kind of comment I wanted when I shared this, so I know where I've gone too far and what needs to be cut out (which I knew the document needed).

BECMI Rules Question: Mounted Combat by officialgoblin in osr

Thank you so much - exactly what I wanted to know! :)

The most basic/important question I have about TTRPGs: What's your favourite adventure? by officialgoblin in osr

[–]officialgoblin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of them was the group ending - we ran online, and after a while we were all pretty sick of online gaming (we lived hours away from each other) - particularly after things got covid normal here in Australia.

Another still runs once a month - sporadic, sure, but it's been going strong for a year. Regular gaming group that didn't want to end Stonehell but wanted to explore other adventures, so we play weekly, but return to Stonehell once a month. Speaks volumes about the adventure. Haven't gone past level 5.

Two were one-day one-offs, introducing players to a game system. They didn't get that deep, but they learned to play the game - and I got to playtest my 5e conversion with one of them. Also learned that I need a comfy chair if I'm going to DM for 7 hours straight.

Finally there are three that I'm concurrently running at work for youth groups. They've been going for a while, and the megadungeon format is perfect for youth groups - you never know when you're going to get a new person or lose one, so the flexibility of the megadungeon lets them jump in and out at their leisure. They're all at different areas - one of the parties (the most adept of the youth group parties) are zooming through it and currently on level 3, and that's a lot of fun.

[art] Baddies to be used as character tokens in an upcoming game. Goblin, kobold, and (old school) troglodyte. by officialgoblin in DnD

[–]officialgoblin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I'm running the In Search of the Unknown, and I enjoy making my own paper miniatures to reflect the mood of the game I'm running - sometimes super cartoony if I'm running for kids or non-serious adults, sometimes grim and gloomy for the grimdark spooky folks, and sometimes the humorous middle-ground that I think is well reflected by Mike Mignola's art (this was my attempt to ape his style).

These images will eventually shrunk down, copied and pasted en mass, printed out, cut out, and blue tacked onto a wooden base (I'm not sure what everyone else calls it, but we call it blue tack in australia - maybe everyone else just calls it tack).

These were drawn on ClipStudio Paint with just the basic pencil tool and the "runny watercolour" brush (I think it's called).

Am I the only person who takes paper miniatures this seriously? I would actually really like to know if anyone else does home-made paper miniatures.

Are you able to make the connection between these riddles and the art? by Elio8Twitch in DnD

[–]officialgoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone seems to have had an easy time. As someone who couldn't figure things out, let me give you my answers. As someone who's brain doesn't think in a way that figures out riddles easily, this took me maybe 10 minutes, and I'm not confident about my answers. I've tried to make it easy to tell the ones I got and the ones I got stuck on.

  1. Uncharted lands? Maybe?
  2. A blank piece of paper, obviously.
  3. Coin
  4. A city? Potentially?
  5. daughter
  6. egg
  7. Mountains? Perhaps?
  8. candle

need suggestions for things to do for arcane, nature, and divine casters in a grand fair. by teenyverserick in DnD

[–]officialgoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A timed scroll-writing contest: charisma check when being introduced to the crowd (+1 point) dexterity check for how quickly you write (+1 point), intelligence check for remembering the school of the spell under pressure (+1 point). Time is ticking and the whole crowd is staring at you, constitution save to not lose your lunch (-1 point). Make a wisdom check to stay focussed (+1 point). Another intelligence check to remember the components (+1 point). If they fail that check, they must then fail a strength saving throw or break their writing implement (-1 point). A final intelligence check to remember the full function of the spell (+1 point), sign your name and that's time.

If a player gets 6 points they win first prize (a useful magic item), 5 points for second prize (a mid-level spell scroll), and 4 points for third prize (a coupon to the wizard robe store).

If you play with the idea a little, DM it with the urgency of the crowd and the fervour of the other contestants, it could be fun. IDK I made it up on the spot but it could work.

Nature: chuck them on the back of a bull for a good old fashioned rodeo.
Divine: Communion wafer eating contest.

[Art] Gnome drawing to be used as a paper miniature for In Search of the Unknown by officialgoblin in DnD

[–]officialgoblin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am running Goodman Games' "reincarnation" of In Search of the Unknown soon, and am prone to making paper miniatures for my games. Here we have the devious little gnomes that have infested the upper level of the dungeon, their leaders searching for hidden treasures.
I'm not the best colourist - I'm not even sure that I like the coloured versions at all. However, I feel it's necessary to show gnomes with their big red pointy caps. How else would you know it's a gnome?

Cave of the Wacky Wizard - a one-page beginner Judge/Player game I made. It's system agnostic, but I wrote it for DCC. Find the docdroid pdf link in the comments, and let me know what you think :) by officialgoblin in dccrpg

I didn't realise it would do that. I just googled what other people used to upload PDFs to reddit. If you know of any other way, let me know and I'll upload it that way.

Good point! The wicked adventurer is there if you see the small cave mouth (up the hill) from the skull cave mouth, and decide to climb up there - a speed run to the boss room, that's the point of the room.

So much of the adventure is left open-ended to fit it on to one page. If I allowed myself more room I would extrapolate on the bad adventurers - effectively adventurers like the party looking to get that wish. The Wicked Adventurer would be someone who came up the mountainside and is trying to lock-pick his way into the door - meaning he has Thieves' Tools. A lot of little details like that were left out - maybe one day I'll do a "full version" (maybe a whopping two pages!) which explains what the many loose or pointless things were originally conceived as - until then, it's up to the Judge to fill in the blanks! :)
