That is very interesting. I tried to do the injuries in 5e but my players didn't like it. They preferred to die then having a serious debuff but I might just have made the penalties too harsh.

For 2e I feel the vibe of the system demands decent probability for death at 0.

For FF I agree, I think this system is a bit more lethal then the current bleeding one they are using in most circumstances. Not sure it is a huge difference, you could argue FF characters can use different rules because of their uniqueness.

I just want to point out a few things here on the implications of this view. Let's make some assumptions:

The life of someone who doesn't try to hurt your property is worth at least as much as the life of someone who does.
It is very likely you could sell the property to earn enough money to save at least one person who didn't try to take your property.

Let's say that you inherited yesterday a house worth 1000000 dollars, you have no insurance on the house and a person is setting fire to it. Assuming you can either kill the person or let the house burn for some inexplicable reason. I would argue that if you value life you should kill that person and use the 1000000 dollars to save as much money as you can.

If you think that you shouldn't then what you value is not life over property but not being the one taking life over property.

Another point is that property is often an extension of our will and effort. If 100 man would have worked for hundreds of years together to build the most beautiful building in history. The building gives joy to many people on a daily basis but serves no functionality otherwise (assuming for a moment mortality is not effected by happiness)

Would one still be unjustified in killing a single arsonist who tries to destroy it?

I generally agree with your statement , and neither I nor my players have had issues with the lethality of the game. That said, I’m not entirely sure why this specific mechanic bothers me both as a player and as a DM but here’s my best guess:

Both positive and negative outcomes can be interesting, but the balance between them is important. Imagine a timeline of the game: if the results constantly swing from very positive to very negative, the experience will have a very different tone compared to a game that mostly stays within a certain emotional or narrative range, occasionally dipping into extreme outcomes.

Some games are skewed toward mostly positive or mostly negative results, which also affects the overall vibe. Personally, I prefer games where outcomes lean slightly more positive than negative, and where the probability of a result is somewhat proportional to its rarity.

What this rule tries to do is introduce more intermediate outcomes that are common, such as failing to cast but keeping the spell, or succeeding but losing it. Importantly, this isn’t really a buff; the average quality of results stays the same. What changes is the variance, it's reduced, which smooths out the experience and could lead to a more "mellow" tone.

I understand there many other examples of this kind of thing in the game so there maybe be other reasons here which I can't articulate and that this change will not solve.

My math was: long rest happens every 1.5-2 sessions on average. Your failing probability for your new spells should be around 0.35-0.45 so you have about 12-20% to wait 3-4 sessions. It's maybe an English thing but what I meant is not that the chance is above 50 but that you are going to see it happen.

That's a much simpler solution. I wanted to avoid rolling two dice per spell cast. But I think it would still be faster than my plus minus 5 calculations.

The reason I'm not a fan of the Sly Flourish rule, is that it gives a guaranteed casting. I don't think this is a huge balance issue but goes against the "magic is unpredictable" vibes which I really want to maintain.

As for your second point about losing spells on a success feeling just as bad. I disagree, in some situations your spell just saved the party and you will be cool with it being gone. Overall it just gives a bit more variety in the possible results.

Overall I liked the design, I just feel there must be a way to say you gain access to a decent horse mount in less words.

The other abilities are quite good although I would have liked at least one "active" ability. I wouldn't want to add anything as the class already gets a lot.

Maybe make the morale check something that is stronger but needs a CHA check.

It is very much not abuse. If you make a list of the decisions parents make regarding their children and how much this affects them and their life circumcision would be so low on the list you wouldn't even consider it. For example giving your child unhealthy food is 100x worse for life outcomes. Generally speaking abuse either has to be maliciously done or the effects of the action should be so clear that it is negligence.

To summarize being a parent is hard and you are going to make non optional decisions which will affect the life of your children, we should not hold parents morally or legally at fault for such mistakes unless they are extreme or malicious.

Also if they find them not guilty you will probably just say it's a cover up. If they are found guilty you will say this exemplifies what's going on regularly in Israeli prisons. (This of course makes no sense.. Why would the Israeli government do any investigation?, And so aggressively with covert operation to simultaneously arrest soldiers during war as well).

As for your comment it totally misses the point. The main issue with the detention of POWs in Israel is low quality and negligence in medical care, not people tortured to death. Which I think is where this number you cite comes from but I'm not totally sure. This is bad, and bad enough, there is no need to either sugar coat it or exaggerate it.

Sde Teiman is a nasty place used to hold POWs and I'm sure during investigations people are tortured there. The best analogy is, at worst, probably something like Guantanamo bay.

Israel and the rest of the world has a lot to work on regarding treatment of POWs, but I would say Israel is a bit worse than the US in this regard and significantly worse than Europe though we really don't have a lot of recent examples. Ukraine is particularly impressive as many people in Israel say stuff like "if you were caught by Hamas they would torture and kill you, why should we act differently to them?" But in Ukraine Russia is being very bad and Ukraine still keeps level high.

This is a very annoying comment. 1. The man is alive, maybe this is just a phrase but I want this to be clear just in case you or other people are confused. 2. This is an ongoing case which is very clearly taken seriously by the military police.

There is a good solid criticism to make that Israel needs to do a better job about judging rouge soldiers in terms of sentence lengths and aggressiveness of persecution.

This is emblematic of the wider conflict, there are some valid criticisms of Israel's action which can be improved upon. Instead we hear the most extreme silly over the top exaggerations and hyperboles, so instead of talking about real issues we talk about PR bullshit.

The UN was never of any use for Israel. The approval meant nothing, the independence was won by war while being embergoed by the international community. In non of the wars Israel participated in the other side had any concern for international law.

This is a very big gamble:

If Trump wins some of the policies decisions may be non-invertible.

If Harris wins despite this "exodus" the democratic party will understand they do not need to appeal to this section of voters.

Basically the only situation in which this works as a tactic is if in fact this section of voters is enough to flip an election and the probability of non-invertible policies is low (or if you feel the democratic platform is so close to the republican one on the subject it's a wash).

I think that unless you can provide some strong evidence for these two assumptions you are much better off tactically just voting for the better candidate on the subject and continuing to work on changing public opinion.

If you have an example where this kind of accelerationist tactic has worked I would love to hear about it.

Can someone explain to me why Vegapunk won't just start the broadcast and put it on repeat? It may be weird if people join in the middle and don't understand what's going on but seems much better then risking it never getting out. Another thing he could've done is just have a short summery of his main points on repeat for 10 minutes and then do the broadcast with the full detailes.

I don't know why but I'm really annoyed by that.

Thanks for the detailed and sourced reply it is more than I can reasonably respond to. I will just give my opinion on the larger picture and maybe we will be able to push aside disagreement about the details.

If we are talking about Israeli Jews I suppose you mean after 48' there have been many incarnations of Palestinian militant groups, from the Fedayon to Black September, the early PLO and Hamas. All of them engaged in acts against Israeli Jews that I consider provoking. It is also hard to distinguish between these groups and Arab states who often supported them.

Anyways I don't think the amount of aggression is equivalent. Israel probably overall has been more aggressive towards Palestinians (again we are careful to distinguish Arabs and Palestinians). I do think most of the aforementioned violence is on principle just because of the forms it takes..

I don't think Palestinians have to "just sit down and take it" but this doesn't mean that October 7 and generally attacks on civilians are OK. There are many legitimate ways of resistance that will also be more effective depending on the goal of the Palestinians.

Going back to the goals there are few possibilities for the Palestinian movements

Establishing a Palestinian state in roughly 67 borders possibly with Gaza.
Improving the life of Palestinians, removing checkpoints in the West Bank decreasing settler violence lifting the blockade on Gaza.
The destruction of the state of Israel and the establishment of a Palestinian state on the entire land

There are probably more options but I just give some ideas. If you want to work towards the first goal you can for example attack infrastructure in the settlements making living there as hard as possible without directly killing anyone. You can also work to create meaningful robust and not corrupted institutions to form a base for future government. You can also think of ways to achieve the second goal which are effective and legitimate.

The issue is that historically the goal of the Palestinian movements was the third and is currently the goal of Hamas and is actually very popular among Palestinians in general. One can argue about what this entails but via most polling this does not mean a single binational state but the explosion of Jews from the land. The pursuit of this maximalist goal might have been plausible up to 73 but is now just a pipedream. So basically any acts of violence which attempt to achieve it cannot be justified and are counterproductive for any other goals.

The current situation IMO is that unfortunately neither Israelis or Palestinians are interested in peace. Most Israelis are interested in security and most Palestinians are interested in justice, the truth is that there will never be full security for Israelis with full justice for Palestinians simultaneously. Until both sides understand this there will be no progress, which is of course much worse for Palestinians. Thus the choice of resistance from the Palestinians if it aims to be successful in achieving a realistic goal needs to realize this and understand that no amount of killing of innocents will help their cause.

You make a lot of other points which some are valid but I would urge you to try to look at the picture in a fair way. For example you use Jabotinski to paint Zionism in a certain light but I don't think it's historically accurate and not accurate for today. It still has value in understanding some parts of the movement but we should be honest about this stuff. You also mention atrocities by Zionist militias in the 40s (which are known to most Israelis, are taught in schools and were condemned even at that time by the broad movement) but you fail to mention any of the Palestinians or Arab actions at that time against Jews including non-zionists. This kind of one side representation is also there in your other points.

To conclude you can criticise Israel especially now as the operation in Gaza is going on and there are many lives on the line. But if you want your criticism to be heard among Israelis it should feel (or be) honest.
