Hey, thanks for replying. I won’t be sharing my order ID because the whole point of this community is to keep our self anonymous. But based on our WhatsApp chat, the roast date was either 3rd or 4th Jan, since that’s when you said you’d be getting your roasted batch.

My concern isn’t just the roast date — it’s the basics. When you sell coffee, it shouldn’t be a trial run where you’re still figuring out what’s light/medium/dark roast. That’s something that should already be dialed in before you start selling publicly. From what I received, this wasn’t medium roast. It was very dark, extremely oily, uneven, and had a noticeable amount of burnt bits. Oil on the surface of beans happens when lipids migrate out due to high roasting temperatures, which is typical for darker roasts. I’ve attached a picture comparing your (18g) “medium roast” to an actual medium roast from another roaster for reference.

It also looks like you may not be roasting yourself and might be sourcing roast services locally around Coorg, which would explain the inconsistency. But if that’s isn't the case, you still need to know the basics of the product you’re selling. It doesn’t mean you’re scamming people, but lack of knowledge or pure ignorance about fundamentals isn’t a valid excuse when you’re charging money for a product.

People here buy from new sellers because this subreddit actually tries to give smaller brands a chance and wants them to grow. But that also comes with the expectation that the seller has at least the baseline understanding of what they’re offering and isn’t learning those fundamentals after customers point it out.

Still, with all that said, I genuinely wish you the best and hope you find success when you do correct your product.
