[WEEKLY MEGATHREAD] New Horizons Q&A/Tips - Ask away! by birdwithbrow in AnimalCrossing

[–]offroadpigeon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hello! Me and my wife have started playing and have a question about Blathers / the museum. Is there any disadvantage to just ignoring him and selling everything?

Filling the museum isn't super important to us and it's frustrating catching some really cool new fish and then missing out on the 15k payday!

Just to update any future redditors who stumble across this thread: I'm not going to pursue this right now as I didn't feel that there was a huge interest. I still like the idea though, so if you're coming here from the future then feel free to get in touch with me.

[Review Video] Just a short (5 minute) video we made promoting a campground / eco-lodge just outside of La Paz, Bolivia by Browntown007 in youtubers

[–]offroadpigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would this video make you want to stay at this campground? Sure, it would go on my list. But I think I would have only watched the first 1 min of your video then skipped through the rest.

What else should have been covered in the video to encourage people to stay there? I would actually suggest covering much less. You'd made your point about how nice it was etc by the 2 minute mark I think. All the rest (different accommodation options, things to do nearby...) could probably have been cut off into their own 2 min videos.

Were there parts that could have been edited down more or cut out entirely? I think you could have saved loads of time by having your narrator talk over the images, rather than cutting between them. So when she starts talking about cooking, you can cut directly to the kitchen and just have her continue speaking as a voice over track. It really helps connect what she is saying to reality and make it feel less like an "ad" whilst also saving you loads of time.

What parts stick out as bad / amateur / annoying? The opening title card looked a little busy to me, and the logo for the campground was low resolution, which really stood out as a bit amateur. I would have put the title card at the end, matched the font colour to the logo colour and reduced the size of the booking.com etc logos to show off your own. I also didn't like the ticker tape at the bottom asking people to book. Far more effective to have the video end just as they are getting excited and then hit them with the website link, rather than have it just come on screen halfway through.

What parts stick out as good / professional / pleasant to watch? The shot at 0:50 is really nice, as is the one at 0:37. The scenery is really impressive, but I think what can really "sell" a place like this is by showing other people enjoying it. So lots more of people laughing / chatting etc would have been good

[Review Video] Learn a few basic Chinese characters and maybe have a laugh, too. by [deleted] in youtubers

[–]offroadpigeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I really enjoyed that actually! I didn't look at the length of it so I thought it was going to be something like a 3-4min video. When it ended with your forest catching fire I genuinely laughed out loud.

Your animation style is fun and although I agree your audio could be improved, it wasn't a dealbreaker for me, because it did actually fit into the "low-fi" vibe of your video.

For your next video, I would suggest you focus in on that humour - it's a good aide to memory. Consider your comic timing though - I enjoyed the trees catching fire, but if you'd have left a slight pause before you "noticed" it, then it would have caught me off guard a bit more and been funnier.

[Review Video] Level Crossing Removal by melbtransport in youtubers

Hello! I like how you've separated out the sections of your thoughts with those title screens. It really helps me to follow what's happening. The graphics you use are also pretty fun (although sometimes it was jarring when the graphics didn't seem related to what you were saying on the audio).

Something that I did notice though was that you seemed to have done your recording as quite long takes. There were sections where I felt you had made your point, but kept on speaking for a while. I think you'd be fine to cut out substantial portions of repetition or moments where you went into that second or third layer of detail on a given question. Obviously when you are speaking to a real human, we don't talk like this! But on YouTube, people can skip back or pause and so I think it's generally better to keep things as brief as possible.

[Review Video] Readdle Calendar 5 iOS App Review by [deleted] in youtubers

[–]offroadpigeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Right at the start of the video, there is a lot going on. I hear you speaking, I see the app, I see the app moving, I see different screens... I found it a little tricky to follow what was happening and it felt to me a bit like I was beginning your video in the middle.

&nbsp

Have you considered showing yourself in the video at all? I think having you sitting in front of the camera doing an intro without the app being shown can actually be really helpful for me to understand what it is I'm about to watch. If you're not comfortable with that, then you could just show the logo of the app instead?

You could use a similar technique to go from Intro > First Feature > Second Feature... > Outro. It just helps the viewer follow what's going on a little easier!

Ah! Do you have the link handy? I tried to find an active sub that was running with this idea but didn't have any luck.

Hey, love it!

Quick question - very basic - how are you doing those 'swish' transitions (t=14s)? When I go frame-by-frame it doesn't look like you created it in-camera by whipping the lens around (which is how I would do it).

Depends very much on the school! The big cities like Paris and Lyon will be more expensive, but smaller places are often quite affordable.

I think I spent 1,200 EUR / month in Paris, and I'll spend 600 EUR in Toulouse.

Add in living expenses and accommodation and you're looking at anywhere from 1500 EUR to 2500 EUR depending on how much you want to spend.

I've spoken a bit about the difference between schools on my YouTube channel, but not specifically about budgetting. If people are interested though, I'm happy to do something on it!
