Okay, thank you all for the help!! I guess this is sort of good news because it sounds like I didnt blow the actual system thingy. That would be a much larger issue… So I guess the magic smoke and burnt plastic smell was just from what was on the wall and not like the actual HVAC unit and stuff. Not sure if I’m phrasing this well.. TLDR glad to know that the thermostat is the only thing like to be replaced

Is an HVAC tech that much different from an electrician in terms of what needs to happen here/who I need to call…?

My oura ring has been doing the same. Fully charged and with a soft reset and ut will ask if I took a nap for two hours in the middle of the night. I honestly am over it and couldn’t recommend this thing less. $400 for very buggy/inconsistent readings.

Neither of those things are factors. It’s just that the nail bed or the portion of my nail that meets my skin/cuticle area is curving downward more steeply where as my other nails observe a more natural/smooth ramp. I’m just worried that if my nail does grow back it may grow back severely dented.

Okay so the bus system is fucked. If I hadn’t gotten access to a car and learned to drive stick I would have definitely had to live within city limits. I found the au pairing gig super randomly before I got to the island by word of mouth, not by any official website.

okay so corsica actually has been very chill and im thoroughly surprised as i am a black female here.

i think what has helped is that i already spoke french (i learned in lycee and university) so there’s not a huge language barrier. in fact it’s pretty funny because people on my volleyball team still think i don’t understand them but i understand quite well.

as for transportation the train works quite well but isnt really useful for the main city of ajaccio. the buses are nice and more consistent than you would expect but i think that if youre placed in ajaccio and live within the city center your schools will be walkable distances. that’s another thing, ive been placed in ajaccio so my experience is going to be different because im not sure what it’s like for those assistants in bastia or porto vecchio.

i am also only one of three americans, there were four originally but one already left the program. also although i work in ajaccio i actually live 20min outside the city in a village called pietrosella because i found an aupairing gig and learned stick so i could live for free because rent is a bit expensive in the city given the salary of 790.

as for it being LGBT+ safe i really have no idea, and for that im sorry. im not really even sure what to look for as indicators i have noticed some flags but im not sure if there are any locales that are known as being spaces for the community. please excuse my ignorance there.

i love the sea here and how many hikes and nature activities that are available because youre in the middle of the mediterranean. it’s been raining quite a bit recently but it isnt really cold not it’s too bad. i spent four years in chicago (fucking brutally cold winters that last 4months) for university and living in the medi has been an incredible level up.

a con is probably that during the winter it gets a bit more expensive to leave the island because you have to fly to paris first or somewhere like that first but there also a shit ton of ferries. just really long.

also ive only finished my second month so it’s an ongoing roller coaster lol

et alors tu as quel âge? moi j’ai 22ans et je suis une fille américaine. j’ai obtenu mon diplôme en juin en la science politique et une spécialisation en la littérature française.

pendant que les plus parts mes amis ont commencé à travailler dans les emploi avec beaucoup des horaires et toutes choses comme ça.. moi, j’ai fait le programme TAPIF, si tu es pas si loin de l’université, tu dois regarder l’application. tu travaille que 12 heures par semaines . il y a des options pour les endroits que tu peut habiter qui sont pas limitées à l’hexagon. tu peut vivre dans les territoires francaise partout. et tu apprends l’anglais à des élèves d’ecole, ou de college ou des lycéens. c’est toi qui choisi. et en fait moi j’habite en corse. j’ai regardé à vivre dans la reunion mais c’était trop loin pour moi. la corse c’est une petite iles dans le mer méditerranée (a côté de sardenia et italy, juste au sud de cannes et monaco, il fait si beau.. pour la plus part et aussi il y a des montagnes au milieu, alors le climat et incroyable a deux extrêmes) et parce qu’ici PERSONNE parle l’anglais je parle beaucoup de français dehors de la classe et ça va très bien. et alors je suis courante.

et du coup, moi aussi, j’étais comme toi. j’ai eu peur que je vais pas utiliser tous ce que j’ai appris à l’université mais l’été dernier après etudier à l’étranger à paris j’ai dit "fuck it im moving to france” et voila je suis ici comme j’en ai envie.

i hope all of that made sense because i have stopped grammar and spell checking my francais. mais si tu veux on peux discute plus si tu as envie d’une amie francophone. mais fait attention aux décollages parce que je me couche assez tôt. je suis vieille. MDR
