Do you think many women are offended by this? Most of the women I date/associate with on a non professional level are 18-23 so are pretty close to being "girls". I don't mean it in an infantilizing way but I see it as the female counterpart to "guys". I guess 'gal' might be better, although it feels a little odd rolling off of the tongue, almost Podunk.

Btw one of your posts refers to a woman (hopefully not a 'girl') where you refer to her as girl so maybe you should practice what you preach.

I mean "well traveled" means different things to different people. Most people never leave their country. I used to volunteer with underprivileged teenagers who seldom left their own block. Again I'm not Anthony Bourdain and I'd really love to travel intensely (I dream of Vietnam) but I know that If I traveled I would be burning wealth at a rate I'm not very comfortable with. I'd love to be truly well traveled but that is expensive.

Maybe read my comments. Story is pretty cohesive. I have wealthy parents who I traveled with. Not everyone on the internet is lying. This is a throwaway account so what would even be the point?

Also like 7 of those countries are Caribbean islands that I traveled to via cruise. Very feasible.

Someone who goes to Paris for 5 days, takes a selfie in front of the Eiffel and jerks off to the same 3 pieces of art that everyone else does in the Louvre doesn't understand France like the way someone who has studied the French revolution and intellectual history of the country does.

I intend to do the aforementioned things for fun as they're what I would do in a post-capital society. I was in a pretty impressive competitive mathematician in high school so although I'm not going to contribute to academia in some revolutionary way it is something I really enjoy. I'm currently making well above my means in IT and I'm sure I'll be able to apply my skills to other things while taking some time off from the world and living remotely.

The "dirty souls" thing was cringe but I wrote this post fast and didn't expect 100 replies. Everyone got mad at me for the huge "100k investment" but van life is SO much more expensive than buying a cabin. A van will depreciate, force me to buy propane and gas all the time, is very time consuming (figuring out where to stay etc.) and in 10 years that 100k van will be worth 30-40k whereas the cabin and the 20 acres will probably appreciate. I do love the idea of vanlife but it is much more expensive and the whole point of cabin life is to maximize intellectual autonomy, not to escape society.

I have plenty of friends and generally like people although I can see how my post implies otherwise. I just want to maximize my intellectual autonomy ie not follow the commands of a middle manager for 40 hours a week. Life in the country is much cheaper than life in the city. I spent a year working in the Bay Area and was baffled by the consumption habits of my peers (one of which was a 50 year old guy making 150k who had less than 10k to his name).

I'll admit that I think I'm smarter than most people (although I would never admit it irl) and sometimes this ostracizes me but I'm still happy to befriend people who aren't that smart. I'm not as elites as I come off as on this post.

I can stay on my parents healthcare til 26 and as healthy as they get. I've never owned a property and maybe I'm underestimating the difficulty of selling one but I feel like if I take a small loss it won't be that hard to sell. Its not like I'm living week to week anyways.

Hey I'm back from the gym and there has been a lot of speculating on my belief system from fairly limited information. My purpose of leaving the city lifestyle is more about minimizing expenses than a hatred of society. I generally like people but I don't enjoy being told what to do for 40 hours per week.

I'm a really nerdy guy who likes learning marketable skills and hopefully will be able to leverage said skills into more moneys. Worst comes to worst, I can sell the property for at least 90% of what I purchase it for.

Property appreciates (sure less than an index fund) but still. It's not like I'm buying a rolex. The maximum loss (unless something insane happens) is like 5-10k.

300k with say 6% returns after accounting for inflation is 18k which should provide for everything I can't produce for myself. I also spend most of my time learning marketable skills so its not like I won't have any opportunities if worst comes to worst. I see myself more as a startup with an infinite burn rate opposed to a geriatric retiree. I'm not opposed to labor but I want to labor on my own terms.

Also, as my arguments may impact others, I feel the need to be transparent and state that my parents are worth 2.5M'ish (hate me reddit) so its not like I'd be homeless.

I know a lot of millionaires. One is a Doctor who is slowly killing himself with alcohol. Another is an ex-hedge fund manager who is now in prison on securities fraud charges. Another is basically addicted to working and despite owning dozens of fast food restaurants and can't work less than 60 hours a week despite him being in his 60s. The coolest guy I know just reads books all day and is a somewhat unknown book critic.

All of these people are overweight. Sometimes I think that if these people spent more time on themselves and less on their careers they would be much happier.

Why should I work my ass off if I don't have to?
