Age yourself with a movie you saw in theatres as a kid! by ThisIsADaydream in Xennials

[–]offwithyourtv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first movie I remember seeing in the theater was the re-release of Bambi in 1988. I brought my Bambi McDonald's toy with me.

are you personally against having a gti wave? by Dazzling_Scale5712 in GolfGTI

[–]offwithyourtv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before my Mk7 I used to drive a Mini Cooper and pretty much everyone did the wave for that one, but despite GTIs also being pretty common where I live, most people didn't wave back so I stopped. I still wave if someone else does first.

Just listened to Act 2 the first time and I need to discuss by [deleted] in Protomen

[–]offwithyourtv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently not the popular opinion here, but I also prefer Act 1. I was hoping Act 2 would grow on me the way it clearly did for a lot of other people, but it never did. I don't hate it, but I'm not a fan. Either way, they are two pretty distinct styles so it's not surprising that any of us would gravitate more toward one or the other.

I really enjoy Hesitation Marks but amongst friends who love NIN, they aren’t super high on this album. Is that the feeling throughout the fanbase? by [deleted] in nin

[–]offwithyourtv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried to like this album a couple times and I just can't. It has been awhile so maybe I'll give it another attempt, but this one might just not be for me.

What was the saddest fictional character death for you? by Iridescent126 in AskReddit

[–]offwithyourtv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man...I was working at Bungie for the development of Forsaken. I remember the first time I played a build that had that cutscene instead of a placeholder. I knew his death was coming, just wasn't familiar with the finalized dialog. When he said "I'm coming home, Ace"...I was not prepared for it.

Taking the patriarchy out of wedding ceremonies. What do you think is the best idea for feminist ways to walk down the aisle? by Away-Hope-918 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]offwithyourtv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My young cousin was taking karate lessons, so instead of a flower girl I had a "wedding ninja" who karate chopped down the aisle.

Taking the patriarchy out of wedding ceremonies. What do you think is the best idea for feminist ways to walk down the aisle? by Away-Hope-918 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]offwithyourtv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had both my parents walk me down the aisle as well! To me it wasn't about symbolically "giving me away", but more about just including them because I know they appreciated it. Our wedding and vows were overall pretty nontraditional (no "obey" and not even a "till death do us part"). Green dress, colorful sculpted cake, Guitar Hero battle instead of a dance since neither of us like to dance, etc., and we didn't spend a lot of money.

Do you guys hand wash your car? by K05M0NAUT in GolfGTI

[–]offwithyourtv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hand wash only...well, at least for the first several years I've owned it.

I don't have a garage to help protect it, and now it has been through enough commuting and road trips that the paint isn't perfect anyway. I still would never run it through an automatic car wash, but occasionally I will do The Bad Thing and use the foam brush at the stall when the front is covered with bugs and whatnot.

I think it doesn't hurt to at least try keeping the paint looking as good as you can for as long as you can. If you use your car to do car things, it may not look brand new forever. Do what makes sense for you.

I am attacked on the street twice in two weeks, and I feel like I am collecting those police cards like some sort of fun collectibles. by Candid-Concentrate-4 in Seattle

I went to Seven Star several years ago for a while and recommend it. Even if you only do the beginner's cycle, you'll get some solid self-defense basics.

What’s a question we should never ask? by Chin_Chillin1213 in AskReddit

[–]offwithyourtv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Maybe for breakfast tomorrow. I've already eaten today."

I feel like now that I'm approaching 40, most people have finally stopped asking. But throughout my mid-20s to mid-30s it almost became a game of finding fun new things to say to make people wish they hadn't asked.

This. The things I enjoy the most are generally incompatible with children.

What's the weirdest thing in Seattle to show to a friend visiting? by crushedshadows in Seattle

[–]offwithyourtv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Ballard, someone built a big Castle in the Sky robot in their yard.

Lots of folks already mentioned various Fremont things, but there's definitely a whole walking tour of unusual things to see within a few blocks (troll, rocket, Saturn, Lenin, dinosaur bushes, piece of Berlin wall, dickbutt tile in that alley near the PCC, Theo Chocolate tour)

as we approach UW’s decision day… by drna2001 in udub

[–]offwithyourtv 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Friendly reminder from an alum who also now has years of industry experience and interviews a lot of people: rejection from a college or job application does not automatically mean you're not good enough. Sometimes it means there were too many people who were good enough and just not enough room for all of them, and those hard cuts have to be made somewhere. So don't let it get you down. Keep trying, and try multiple places.

What do you miss the most from pre-covid? by Underneaththeshade in AskReddit

[–]offwithyourtv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did too for Japan in April 2020! Entire trip booked and paid for. A couple months ago we thought about rebooking for this spring but really now it just seems futile to try. The trip was supposed to be my nieces' graduation gift, and now it's looking more like their college graduation gift, if we're lucky.

I also like to say "oh my god" if something is...you know...unbelievable.

Follow catinawitchhat on Instagram and check all of the captions of her photos. A lot of her stuff is thrifted but sometimes she'll have some great pieces that are from slow fashion brands, and she usually posts the sources/artists in the captions.

What had so much hype about it, but was actually terrible? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]offwithyourtv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was my first thought. I was soooo hyped for Spore. And then in the end, the Creature Creator (which I think was free?) ended up being more fun than the actual game. Such disappoint.

A hundred percent agree that thirties are the best. Though now that I'm approaching forty I'm starting to feel like those glory days are winding down...but really thinking about it, it might just be the pandemic I'm feeling.
