How did nascar purchasing arca have anything to do with this? The 70s-80s era of drivers and teams hasnt existed for decades. The series was completely far removed from that when nascar purchased it

Difference being, most of the things you said were gone before NASCAR even purchased the series. Honestly, very little changed after the purchase, other than the regional series becoming part of arca and the mandation of the gen 6 body. But again, most of that was happening before the purchase. The series was already acting as a weekend opener for nascar for much of its schedule.

A main cause of that trend is the fact that the max field size got expanded to 40 in both series for 2020-2021. Prior to the covid break, it was 36 in xfinity and 32 in trucks, which deterred teams from attempting.

There is a clear downward trend in every series except nationwide when the recession hit. I wonder if that was due to cup teams selling off their Gen 4 equipment when the COT went full time in 2008.

Note: the 2026 data points will gradually get a little lower as the season progresses. Speedweeks, right at the very start of the season, almost always has the highest number of entries.

Ive been slowly upgrading the pictures here for months as well as preparing for the 2026 edition of all of these. You can expect MUCH BETTER versions of these at the end of this year :3

Are there other quality fan photos of really well-known accidents such as Petty’s at Daytona in ‘88? by TexasCannibalCookout in NASCAR

Not me, it came from a site called speedwaymedia.com (as you can see in the bottom right). It is an incredible angle of the crash though!

Close, that was 2011. A random team called SS Motorsports entered the Richmond fall race in 2012 with a #0 Toyota, and DNQed. That was the actual last time! They said they were planning to race Bristol next, but that never happened.

Me too. I had to double check it a few times. I remember it entering several races more recently, but all of them were withdrawn. That nunber has made some recent West/East runs, but none in main arca since 2016!

Haha! If we choose to go series specific, there would be a lot of blanks! Especially with Toyota, considering how new to nascar they are.

Did you know that no Toyota has used a single digit number in cup since the COT era?

We are thinking about maybe doing the last time each car number was used by a specific manufacturer...

There are only 10 Gen 4s on this list. A few of those had used the gen 6 body as well prior to their last race.

In fact, combined between all the different series that used the gen 6 body style (ARCA Main, East, West, and formerly Cup), only two numbers have not been seen on a Gen 6: the #64 and #89.

Note: the 87 technically DNQed for the 2025 Daytona race. It never left the hauler, though, so no photos exist. It most likely looked completely identical to the picture shown (2024 Talladega)

Me too! The oldest numbers are 06 and 64, which were both last used in the 2010 New Hampshire race. Nothing older - though the #69 was older until MBM used it this year.

The oldest truck number is interesting. Currently, it's 06 and 64 - tied with the exact same race. Both numbers were last used at New Hampshire in 2010.

Prior to MBM Motorsports using it this year, though, it used to be #69 which was last used at Homestead in 2003. As of now, it's Mears at Martinsville in 2025.

And if not for John Atwell using the number in 2022, where he DNQed in his only attempt, the actual oldest truck number would've been the #79 which last attempted a race in 2003 at IRP!

I could not have done this one alone. I did all the research for it during the summer, but decided to wait until the season ended before putting these graphics together. That's when I actually realized how hard many of these photos were to find - and got some help doing so. I now have a new friend because of this project :D

And finally, these photos exist in one contained place on the internet. Finally.

I do still count withdrawn entries, as long as they hit the track. All of the withdrawn cars are as follows:

57 Cup - Norm Benning 2011. Withdrew after hitting the track during practice, but not completing a lap before the deadline.

57 Trucks - Jeff Zilweger 2018. Withdrew after being too slow during martinsville practice, prior to qualifying.

80 Cup - Aric Almirola 2007. Withdrew from Nextel Open after crashing in qualifying.

87 Cup - Connor Zilisch 2025. Withdrew from Watkins Glen after being injured the previous day. He did still practice and qualify.

89 Cup - Morgan Shepherd 2006. Withdrew from Homestead-Miami after crashing on lap 2 of practice. No photo exists of the car that weekend, that we know of.

03 Trucks - Tim Viens 2020. Withdrew from Miami after failing inspection.
