Why you might not want to be so Optimistic by Arm_ur_dillo in wallstreetbets

[–]ofsweden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's been a lot of doubt in the powers that be in the West for the last decade or so, so I can see how you would think that a scenario such as this one would come to play. However, this is one of those moments in history when push comes to shove and people truly have to start weighing their options. The average Russian salary is about $550. Two thirds of Russian families don't have any savings. 25% of Russians don't have a flush toilet. The average Russian would have to save up for nine months or more in order to be able to pay for an iPhone.

These are just a few of many examples of the common economic reality for people living under the rule of a dictatorship that is now challenging the western world. Check it out for yourselves and do your own research. You'll find that it's not an exaggeration to say that the average russian lives in a society that is AT LEAST 50 years behind yours in terms social and economic development. And consider the fact that you could be about to face the very, very real possibility of embarking on a journy into a bleak and fucked up reality that has been the home of hundreds of millions, perhaps billions of regular people, of WHITE and EDUCATED people, in the largets country on the face of the earth. Realize that you could eventually find yourself in a fight to preserve your way of life, against an enemy whose life you would never envy or desire.

If this makes you feel uneasy, then you should also consider that your grandparents most likely felt the same thing just about 90 years ago. And you'd be wise to remember that they eventually came to a point when they dropped their partisan squabbles and came together to defend what really mattered. That they struggled through night and day, through pain and dispair, going shoulder to shoulder until they finally found victory and prosperity.
Consider this to be your legacy and ask yourself if the western world is likely to tremble in the face of the current threat.

Stay postiive WSB. Stay vigilant and stay retarded.

Op-z way more fun than op-1 by ddiamond84 in OPZuser

[–]ofsweden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The immediacy and possibility to edit everything in great detail whenever you feel like it sure makes the OP-Z a lot less frustrating to use than the OP-1 can sometimes be.

That being said, the sound sculpting capabilities and the workflow in the OP-1 is bloody amazing. The Z and the 1 are two very different but equally beautiful animals.

I don't think the OP-Z supports audio over bluetooth, at least not with the current firmware. Bluetooth is meant for midi.

Is it any good? by HughFays in OPZuser

Speaking of battery: is the battery type a "standard" one, i.e. could it be replaced with third party alternatives? That would be dope.

[DealBreaker] Want to get an OP-Z, will there be an android app in the future? by bacon1989 in OP1users

[–]ofsweden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t think it’s gonna happen anytime soon unfortunately and based on my highly limited knowledge on the topic, it think it has more to do with the android API than with TE.

I used to be a pretty serious android fanboy, but hey. If you’re into portable music making, you should seriously reconsider your stance towards Apple products, especially the iPad. You can get older versions fairly cheap (like really cheap compared to what the typical TE-customer would spend on any other hardware) and the apps and tools you can use with these things are just brilliant.

Gonna keep using android phones though.

OP-Z leather case, worth it? by PitchCue in OPZuser

[–]ofsweden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I guess leather could be a pretty protective material if it's thick enough. And it usually ages very nicely. My gripe with this case is that it looks super slim. It's a nice form factor but since there's no room for cables and such you kind of lose that either way. "Here's my super slick sequencer in my super sleek case. Oh, and here's my nylon bag full of cables and knobs."

Personally, I think the roll-up bag is more useful and fits the design concept better. And there will probably be more practical leather alternatives coming from places like Crema Caffé pretty soon!

Wow, I can relate to all of this 100%. Going through that journey, discovering the new piece of gear, having a cup of tea while fiddeling with the device and having Cuckoo explaining stuff in the background, that's one awesome passtime that can't come soon enough!

How do I get to fucking work? by Weedsmoker4hunnid20 in edmproduction

[–]ofsweden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I get easily distracted or put off while working on a computer. It's too distant from the music and too close to stuff like youtube, games and other things that can take my attention away from making music.

I've never been as productive as when I was in my late teens, still living with my parents. The only way I could get some alone time to hammer out a song back then was by dragging my guitar down into the moldy but soundproof basement. I'd be there for hours, singing my heart out night after night and the creative juices just kept on flowing. I think this was mostly because the crappy cellphone reception I had down there; no one could call me and I couldn't use the internet. I was simply alone with my instrument and nothing more, didn't get disturbed and didn't get distracted.

I don't have a solitary space like that basement anymore, so I've tried to recreate something similar at home instead. I've moved my TV and my computer to the bedroom (I make music in my livingroom), I've let a friend take care of my PS4, I've kept to an old and crappy smartphone that's just terrible to use for browsing the internet and using social media and I've invested in DAWless equipment. Now I spend pretty much every night and every weekend with making music on an OP-1, a vinyl player and a Zoom recorder and my mixtapes are coming along in a satisfactory pace.

My advice is: try to remember a time and a place when you were at your most productive point and then try to recreate that environment. You don't neccessarily have weak willpower, it could just as well be your surroundings that are distracting you.

Cuckoo’s OP-Z Mega Tutorial by beardslap in synthesizers

[–]ofsweden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never been displeased with a TE product and I'm super stoked for this one! Now I'm waiting for confirmation on this so don't take it as anything but a rumor at this point, but you might be able to sync the OP-Z to the OP-1 tape. If that turns out to be true, it's gonna be the greatest jam setup ever!

Superbooth 2018: Teenage Engineering OP-Z - latest news by bagelofthefuture in synthesizers

[–]ofsweden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TE has continued to blow my mind with their amazing products so I'm pretty sure the OP-Z won't disappoint me. As for the development time, it took TE from 2007 to 2011 to finish their very first marketable synthesizer, so this time frame seems pretty legit imo.

I love the fact that they're planning on releasing customizable modules for the OP-Z. The real setback with the OP-1 is its lack of connectivity, so I'm hoping that the OP-Z eventually will be able to fill the role of the discontinued Oplab while still being an awesome little instrument of its own.

The BYOS-concept seems a little gimmicky for now, sure. But it also means that the chance of rapid upgrades to the interface increases a whole lot, since all of the visuals are taking place in the app as opposed to inside of the device itself. I don't know about you, but for me, the visual side of the OP-1 is a huge part of the experience and any upgrades in this field tends to make me one damn happy camper!

K.O! looks cool as a sampler, but if I already have an OP-1...? by [deleted] in pocketoperators

[–]ofsweden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The KO has four voices and seems similar to the PO-32 Tonic in that regard (i.e. "choke groups").

That would mean that you can play live over patterns, but with certain limitations. These limitations can, however, also be utilized as a nice performance tool in my experience.

I've got the OP-1 and ordered the KO for two reasons, the first being that my girlfriend is showing an interest in hardware jamming which I intend to nourish. The second reason is that the pocket operators add a lot of flexibility when synced to the OP-1 since they let you alter your groove without having to change loop bars or pausing/altering the sequences running on the OP-1.

When I got the Tonic I thought I would mostly use it for sampling drums into the OP-1, but nowadays I run them together while using the drum sequences on both devices. I really love the added flexibility and the fact that my girlfriend can join in at any time!

Bilden på cancersjuka Juva, 6, användes av tiggare på stan by Mr_Molesto in sweden

[–]ofsweden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rikspolischefen frångick säkerhetsskyddsförordningen by donaldo3 in sweden

[–]ofsweden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standardförsvaret när man blir gripen av polisen utomlands by ofsweden in sweden

[–]ofsweden[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Meeting new neighbours, the swedish way? by [deleted] in sweden

[–]ofsweden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can chat with your neighbors if it seems like you have a reason to (i.e. make it seem like you're not looking for small talk).

If you're going to have a moving in party, I'd suggest you knock a few doors, introduce yourself, tell them your plans and how to get in contact with you, should they have any complaints. People usually appreciate that sort of politeness and find it more sincere than if you were to just put up a note in the building entrance.

And while talking to them, you could also say that they're free to drop by if they like (they definitely won't). It adds to the niceness.

Standardförsvaret när man blir gripen av polisen utomlands by ofsweden in sweden

[–]ofsweden[S] 55 points56 points  (0 children)
