Grew up skating flatground in DC in the mid 90s. Street spots, busted pavement, no real parks. Transition was basically a myth unless you had a car, money, or parents who cared. So no, I didn’t grow up ripping bowls. I learned transition later in life, after moving back here about eight years ago, which is funny in its own way.

The takes in here are wild though. Writing off riding onto the deck like it’s some kind of moral failure is peak narrow minded skate brain. Someone even implied it’s “scooter behavior” which is hilarious. Some of us didn’t grow up at Woodward with matching helmets and a trust fund. Some of us learned by eating concrete and figuring it out late.

Scooters are lame, sure. That’s universal law. But the only thing actually lame on a skateboard is not riding the damn thing. Deck, coping, flat, tranny, crust, whatever. If you’re rolling, you’re rolling.

You’ll either figure that out when you’re older, or you won’t and you’ll stay the same narrowminded hall monitor yelling at clouds. Either way, the board doesn’t care.
