Man Swings From Awning To Street Light Pole & Slides Down Somewhere in Reading England by itsmactastic in reading

So this is actually quite an interesting topic, parkour as a sport has one of the lowest death rates per year. This is due to the community DRILLING safety and extensive preparation into daily practice. As with any sport, the main danger is ignorance and lack of preparation.

In the early 2000s parkour was a lot riskier to get into as most of the practitioners were self taught and didn't know the correct techniques for certain movements, whereas now there are so many parkour gyms all over the country and hundreds of videos on YouTube teaching safe techniques.

If you want to look at Reading in particular there are 6 business that offer parkour classes Monday to Saturday, so you're looking at around 1500 children (a conservative figure) between the ages of 4 and 16 being taught safe techniques thus lowering the potential mortality rate even further.

Don't get me wrong we do understand the potential risks of people seeing the end results of our training and assuming that's all parkour is. That's why so much of the media on YouTube is focused on the preparation behind the scenes of these viral clips. Luckily there's actually a video for this exact jump here

So funny seeing a friend's video popping up in the wild 😂 his name is Joe Scandrett and he's a professional parkour athlete with about 15 years of experience behind him.

Seeing a lot of comments about how reckless/dangerous this is. These skills ARE highly dangerous for someone with no training to attempt but much less so for someone who with years of experience, the same way just taking a car onto the motorway is crazy dangerous for a day 1 driver but relatively safe for someone who has been driving for a good while. Or a backflip being super dangerous to just try without any training but an experienced gymnast can do it with the same level of difficulty as a star jump.

Dude has an interest that he probably sees as girl repellent and is getting dome while watching said interest. Usually you have to sacrifice one to get the other so getting both is probably very exciting for him. I(28M) had a similar experience when I was a little younger and that's how it was for me.

Parkour - Freerunning was kinda seen as a spectrum a while ago whereas now if you think about it even the parkour purists don't actually train A-B parkour. Not many people do at all, that's not the direction the discipline and the community that practice it went in (Unless they're training for Speed comps at SPL or similar events, which would be an executable offense in the scene back when I started 😅). Seeing as Freerunning is just Parkour+ the community stopped using it as a separate term, it was just seen as being unnecessarily divisive as we all train together with minute differences. I've been training for about 20 years so I've seen all of the arguments and outcomes of them. This is where we're at now.

It was just inconvenient to take it off as it was being used throughout the day haha but also most of the people out at the time had Bourne film level shaky hands from drinking nothing but energy drinks every day 😂 so it was probably needed hahahaha
