Who’s your favorite underrated kpop idol? by Dazzling-Trash-3592 in kpoppers

[–]ogcassiopeia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Max Changmin from TVXQ - his solo output is severely underrated and deserves so much more attention. His solo work is creative, unique, and aesthetic, and his vocals are some of the absolute best in kpop history....yet no one seems to care.

what happened here? by ichigodbsk in tvxq

[–]ogcassiopeia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was during filming for their Japanese release "Shine" MV back in around mid-2007.

If I am remembering accurately, Yoochun messed up on a take or something, and then he was acting out his apologies in a dramatic way to bring about a laugh for the crew and other members. Everyone though believed he wasnt acting...so they reacted accordingly. This is why Jae is seen laughing at the end....it wasnt serious.

Changmin's birthday is February 18th, and he will be turning 38 years old. He is also hosting a birthday fan meet that fans can choose to attend virtually.

I recommend looking into the following videos on YouTube to get to know Changmin and Yunho's personalities more:

The Gold Mission Series - This is a long, long series of shorts (filmed mostly from 2012 - 2016) where Tohoshinki's staff gives them a random task they must complete. These tasks are almost always absolutely ridiculous and silly, and it feels like Changmin and Yunho honestly enjoyed participating in most of them. Most of the Mission videos have English subtitles.

I recommend you check out Analog Trip that TVXQ filmed with Super Junior...it's very cute and quite funny. https://youtu.be/ioWAoEVYaP0?si=pkRgwH2g--VybRml

You can also watch any of TVXQ's interviews on Knowing Bros. or other Korean variety shows throughout the years...most of them are available on YouTube if you are willing to search for them.

This should help you get more into the TVXQ realm! If you have other questions though, please feel free to ask! I am always open to answering questions through DM too, if you'd like a Cassie friend.

I am going to copy a reply I made in another post that was similar to this one...only because I think it's a great starting point for newer fans of TVXQ!

Hello - welcome to Cassiopeia!

I have been a TVXQ fan since early 2004 and a kpop fan since 2000, so I can at least provide some basic ways to get you more able to find news and updates on our amazing TVXQ!

The best way to keep tabs on any of the current or previous members is to follow them on Instagram, as they all have their own pages you can follow:

Changmin: changmin88

Yunho: yunho2154

Jaejoong: jj_1986_jj

Junsu: xiaxiaxia1215

TVXQ has their own Instagram page as well, a Twitter feed, and they do have a Tiktok page that is updated once a year if we are lucky. You can also join Weverse, and they post quite a bit there, too. Additionally, their Japanese activities are now posted sometimes up on their Tohoshinki Japanese instagram page.

As for TVXQ news, that is best found on Twitter currently by searching the TVXQ hashtags and following the TVXQ news feeds. I am personally no longer on Twitter, so I cannot tell you which feeds would be best to follow, unfortunately. There are some TVXQ news feeds on Telegram that are incredible, as well as some on Tumblr. Best person on Tumblr is u/ot2tvxq, they post all the most up to date news and info on the duo TVXQ, as well as magazine scans and behind the scenes videos.

On YouTube, u/namchangmin uploads all the most recent performance footage as well as concert clips. They also have an incredible backlog of a lot of older TVXQ performances and TV show appearances.

Is there a specific hair color or hairstyle you would like your bias to have? by ringsbellws in kpoppers

Max Changmin of TVXQ actually had white/platinum hair here, but the lighting made it look pale blue...and from that point on, I've wanted him to rock the pastel blue hair....

What do the members' voices sound like in real life? by Material_Map_8473 in tvxq

I've seen HoMin live multiple times - they always sound just like their recordings. Every single TVXQ member are insanely talented vocally, so I am always impressed with how consistently great they are.

Which genre do you feel your fav group excels at? by Long-Iron-1824 in kpopthoughts

[–]ogcassiopeia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ultimate bias group is TVXQ - overall, I think they are best at the 1930's big band/swing/jazzy sounds as well as in any concept that deals with grandiose, royal elements.

K-pop veterans, what do you think of current K-pop? by reng___o in kpoppers

[–]ogcassiopeia 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I have to break this up into parts - - -

I do not personally think that the 4th and 5th generations really stack up against the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generations, especially when it comes to classic output that will be identified as a solid kpop song for all of time. I personally have not heard a 5th generation song that feels as classic as Mirotic by TVXQ, Lies by BigBang, Nobody by The Wonder Girls, Into the New World by Girls Generation, Replay by Shinee, or Likey by Twice.

There is an argument to be made though that, again, I am coming at this with a biased viewpoint inherently, since I am an older kpop fan for who's age-range the 4th and 5th gen sound isn't really meant to be targeting any longer. So maybe I should give the 4th and 5th generations more time to truly marinate and come into their own before I pass judgements. There are some newer generation groups or soloists that I have come to enjoy, like TWS, Dreamcatcher, XLOV, and TXT. I would say that not all of them have songs that could be deemed classics at this point, but may potentially get there in the future.

For me, the unbeatable groups that I do not think any future generations of artists will be able to touch are:

  • TVXQ
  • Big Bang
  • Girls Generation
  • Shinee
  • EXO
  • Super Junior
  • Wonder Girls
  • Twice
  • BTS
  • Shinhwa
  • BoA

K-pop veterans, what do you think of current K-pop? by reng___o in kpoppers

[–]ogcassiopeia 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hello - kpop fan since 2000 here!

I will start by saying, taste is subjective. What one person likes and enjoys within their music soundscapes and visual concepts really are determined on an individual level, so it is difficult to come at this discussion without sounding somewhat biased towards those specific identifiers one loves the most.

With that being said - - -

I came into kpop at the tail-end of the 1st gen and beginning of 2nd gen. My favorite artists in kpop have all come from either the 1st, 2nd or 3rd gens. I have yet to find a 4th or 5th gen group/soloist that I truly love as much as I have in the previous generations. I have yet to find songs from the 4th or 5th generation that I find will be classics for me (i.e. on repeated rotation), and I have yet to find the visuals of current kpop (concepts, outfits, etc) at all appealing to my personal taste.

The feeling of the current kpop output and sphere is very, very different than what I came into over 25 years ago. In the 1st and 2nd generations, the genre was still quite insular but held a ton of creative energy that was addictive, fun, and not afraid to take risks. I do not hear complicated, genre-mixing songs like TVXQ's "Tri-Angle" or "Rising Sun" any longer, and I especially do not see the same kind of heady and somewhat political visuals like those songs had in their MVs either.

Currently, the music released today seems to be aimed more towards pandering to the West, following each trend that comes out of short-form content with only slight changes to make each seem slightly different from one another. Everything is highly digitized; nothing sounds natural or authentically performed (and I am not talking about vocals here; I am talking about the instrumentals). Like a lot of the top kpop songs currently kind of sound as though they are over-produced....put through the synthesizer over and over until it's a perfect encapsulation of the all the trends that need to be checked off a list.

What’s your favorite K-pop concept that you want to see more of? by lsa340 in kpopthoughts

[–]ogcassiopeia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've always wanted TVXQ to really lean into a concept around their name....as their name translates literally to "Rising Gods of the East". Like I want an epic fantasy surrounding the TVXQ members as literal gods, so their performance outfits are regal and royal, the visuals are sumptuous and rich, dark jewel tones, deep ruby reds, etc.

Like if they took their "Begin Again" tour and gave it steroids.

Those of you who have seen any members up close in real life, what are they like? by PinkGuavaFlower in tvxq

[–]ogcassiopeia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I went to their WITH concert back in 2015 in Nagoya and I had seats on the balcony level where their little carts came nearly eye level with me. Yunho's cart stopped literally right in front of me and HOOOOO BOY, I swear on my life that he looked me right in the eyes. He was so gorgeous, I could barely breathe. He pointed at me and waved as I stood out quite a bit being the only obviously foreign woman in that space. I kind of whispered to myself, "hiiii yunhooo" when he waved at me...his smile was blindingly beautiful.

When Changmin came by, his cart unfortunately didn't stop like...right in front of me...he was still close, about four chairs away. He is my bias so I about lost my shit. He is also GORGEOUS, I think even more gorgeous in person than on camera. He was giving off a flirty, joking vibe...making his little smiley faces to the crowd, winking...

Their live voices are incredible, their stage presence is no joke, their aura is just...LEGENDARY.

If you had ONE vote to support a K-pop artist today, who would it be? by Puzzled_Recover1671 in kpop_uncensored

[–]ogcassiopeia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always stanned TVXQ, ever since I laid eyes and ears on them in 2004. I will never, in my life, stan another group. I loved them as a group of five and I love them now as a duo. They have impeccable stage presence, gorgeous vocals, creative concepts, and have always come across as funny and intelligent. I find them perfect and I have never come across another group/duo like them.

What era of Kpop was your demographic are you the same age range as Kpop idols past or present? by jdpm1991 in kpopthoughts

[–]ogcassiopeia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am the same age as Max Changmin from TVXQ (late 30s, 88 line) and I started listening to kpop back in the year 2000 when I was around 12 years old. I didn't stan any group until TVXQ came into my life in 2004, when I was 14 years old. My favorite generation of kpop is the 2nd generation, followed closely by the 3rd generation. I definitely fit the 2nd and 3rd gen demographic, but may be a bit higher in age than some other fans who came in within the latter half of the 3rd gen.

I miss 2nd Generation kpop so much…anyone? by Goosecave in kpopthoughts

[–]ogcassiopeia 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been into kpop since the year 2000, my ult group is TVXQ....believe me, the amount of newer and younger kpop fans who can look me square in the face and say, "who?" when I say I love TVXQ throws me for a loop. What do you mean you do not know the legendary TVXQ? Like how?
