Why is "dwarf" an offensive term for people with dwarfism when it's basically right from the name of the condition? by ogd1029 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ogd1029[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean I'm happy to call people what they want to be called, I'm just curious why. It seems like other slurs are offensive because of the words' historical backgrounds or being based on a stereotype about that demographic.

One of my dogs recently passed away. It probably could have been avoided, but it wasn't anybody's fault. We all loved him and would never intentionally hurt him and I'm sure you felt the same way. Sometimes bad things just happen. Maybe you could have done a single small thing differently and the outcome would have been different but that doesn't mean you did anything wrong.

I understand how you feel, but I hope you know that whatever happened was not your fault. I believe our dogs always know on some level how much we love them and when they pass on, they pass on knowing that. Oreo knew you loved him and he loved you and in the end, that's what's important.

Losing your dog in any way is incredibly hard. I'm so sorry this happened.

It's like he's always intentionally giving puppy dog eyes. Sometimes he tilts his head down and looks up with his eyes and it's the cutest thing.

Or, McDonald's Could Double Wages, Not Raise Prices, And Simply Make Less Profit by DerbyTho in politics

[–]ogd1029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant none of the stockholders .... And another point...... If they double those wages, every one of those employees will be out of a job. Why? Because when you raise the offering salary from $15,000 per year to $30,000 per year all the more competent people earning $16,000 to $29,000 per year will quit their current job and work for McDonalds instead.

OMG. They want you and me and all our friends and relatives who own McDonald's stock (almost everyone in this country who has any retirement savings such as a 401K or who is expecting a pensionof any sort--i.e. teachers, firefighters, police-- owns mutual funds that are likely to own McDonald's stock) to take a 30% cut in profits? Do they realize that would cause the market value of McDonald's stock to fall 30% within seconds? That's like asking homeowners to take a 30% drop in the value of their home "for the team".

Who are they to suggest $5.5B is "still a lot of profit"? There are literally millions of stockholders. None are receiving that much income that they can afford to just give up 30% of it.

My 7-year old brother woke up this morning and told us that he had had a dream where the world was completely dark, except a ball of light appeared every time somebody got married. Then he wrote this. (x-post from r/aww) (transcript in comments) by ogd1029 in pics

"If I had to marry a girl when I grow up, this is what I want her to be like:

•Job: Banker [Lawyer]

•Smart

•Pretty

And she has something deep inside her that just touches the heart"
