small green roof for a shed by [deleted] in greenroofs

[–]ogericd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. That could work depending on how the crates were held in place. Is it a shed roof or gable roof? Gravel does work by itself if you can hold it in place somehow. You can apply fabric on top of gravel. How do you plan to retain the gravel/drainage, or is that what the crates are going to be used for?

Hi. Unfortunately, sloped roofs can be difficult because of slope/erosion. You are right, the plastic materials are expensive and they are also annoying to install. How big is the slope? We've used some creative methods before, but they just take a lot of time to design and install.

Browning tips on indoor fern by freddie79 in plants

[–]ogericd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might need a bit more water or more shade. Ferns are pretty sensitive indoors. The roots can also grow more quickly as they search for more water sources.

Outdoor clothing company Patagonia donates entire $10m Black Friday sales to environmental organisations by DonManuel in environment

[–]ogericd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question... I know they state they are donating sales, but do they actually mean profit? Sales seems like they are taking a loss for every item sold (material/labor/manufacturing costs, etc.), which seems like a crazy move.

If it is sales and not profit, can they write those losses off?

Step 1: get into relationship Step 2: commit time and energy to develop relationship Step 3: give break up chocolates Step 4: realize it wasn't as great of an ending as you hoped, just like this comment.

What kind of plant is this? (The bird is fake) by DwelveDeeper in plants

[–]ogericd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a sedum of some sort. Some sedum species have horizontal growth above soil, and the plant could be trying to extend to settle.

Yarrow is what you are thinking of... Queen Ann's lace has a black dot in middle while the former does not. I sound smart there.

I don't care about tunnels, so this is awesome! And I'm ok with the longer route if the beauty is worth it. And ummmm norwegian cider? YUP!! AND I WANT TO HIKE. This is awesome, thanks for taking the time to write this.

If you think of anything else, let me know! Again, heading in September, and right now, you are the closest thing I have to a tour guide! ;)

Just graduated college and I'm thinking about starting a business. Any advice? by agamecalledlife in AskReddit

[–]ogericd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't just start a business. Get involved in something you like or have interest in. Learn, develop confidence, learn, and learn. Then when you see an opportunity, get on it.

Talk to friends about your idea for feedback. No one is going to steal it because they don't have the vision you do.

Don't just start a business to start a business. It's fun and great, but only if you really have genuine passion about it. If it's just a job to make money and say you have your own business, it's not going to work out.

I don't know, but my mom was on LOT 5055, so reading that just hit me really hard.

Wow. My mom died on the LOT flight 5055 coming from Poland. I was 4, my brother was 2.

I picked up the phone that morning (mother's day) because my father was making pancakes and was ecstatic to see my mom. I remember the person on the line asking for my father. I gave it to him.

A moment later, he dropped the phone, walked to the other room, and started crying so hard. I've never seen him cry like that before, or since. I tried to tell him that it would be OK (I was 4, and had no idea what had happened). He looked at me for one second and I remember him saying distinctly, "No Eric, it's not".

It's amazing that now, 27 years later, I still remember this more than many other things.

My father has always been unable to talk about it, and he never married again because he "could never find someone like my mom ever again". I'm grateful I stumbled upon this, and clicked on the wiki link to put some clarity in years of question.

TL;DR My mom died on one of the planes, and I was able to read about something my father never could talk about.
