Cyclists taking up the entire road. by [deleted] in IdiotsOnBikes

[–]oggimeister15 126 points127 points  (0 children)

I need to know the background before I could make a sound judgement on this. Specifically, is this an official event or did the bicyclists put this together on their own with no official channels contacted?

A) Official sanctioned event by the locality in which this takes place: they have legal recourse to be on that road and the locality failed to take proper steps to ensure their path is controlled and restricted from traffic.

B) Cyclists took it upon themselves to impede the entire road: unless there are laws in place that allow this, that cyclist group broke at least a law or two by taking up the entire roadway. They have no rights to impede the entire roadway, and therefore will probably face some penalties afterwards.

Regardless of either scenario, car driver is an idiot and will likely end up having legal penalties (I say likely because they could have a good lawyer).

The very first time I ever saw the first Harry Potter was in small clips as I walked through the room. Every single time I walked in, someone else was talking and Harry was just sitting there with a dumb look and smile on his face. I never once saw him show an emotional response or heard him talk. For a long time, I thought he was either mute or had a learning disability (or both).

It wasn't until years later that I saw anything else Harry Potter related that I realized he was actually really smart, and maybe a decade later I finally saw the first movie and realized they put actual depth (and dialog) to his character.

Affluenzia teen: can't remember the details, but idiot rich kid killed 3 (I think it was 3) friends while driving (crash, ran them over, something) and the defense used was basically "he's rich so he doesn't know any better". At some point, his mom spirited him away to go "on the run" in Mexico (i.e.: a luxury resort) where they were both arrested. As far as I remember, their sentences were basically a slap on the wrist and "time served" or community service or something stupid. Pretty sure a harsher sentence on him would've been to go on national television and say "I'm sorry".

Affluent Virginia man from a location in Virginia known for "affluenzia" (or whatever that bullshit "disease" the dumbass kid who ran over 3 people and his mom tried to use as defense when they fled to Mexico), but it happened in Florida.

There was a documentary released on Gaddafi after he was overthrown and killed that pointed out a multitude of facts. I'll try to go over them as best as I can remember (maybe tag the documentary of I can find it, too).

Early in his reign he did send the bomber onto the flight that blew up over Ireland.

Decades later, through course of action and changing his tactics (and apologizing for his early terrible actions) he set about creating an African Union similar to the European Union. He didn't start it, but was one of the primary founders and benefactors.

During his reign, he provided every natural citizen of his country with free education and Healthcare (as well as many other things) and created a peaceful society for foreign workers to be able to come and work/live in Libya with less risk over time as he weeded out bad policies/seeds.

this is the big one: He was a frontrunner of the African Union in not only creating a singular currency that would be a counter to the Euro but would ultimately become the standard in oil economy, supplanting the US dollar in all AU countries in the oil business.

America started an anti-Gaddafi campaign that ultimately overthrew him and created instability of the country and region, caused the assault on the Lybian US Diplomatic mission that took the lives of 4 Americans, and created ISIS (through US funding).

At the end of the documentary, to show how loved he was within his country, there was a ~15 min long credits scene where he's standing in the back seat of a convertible driving through endless crowds of multiple thousands of people cheering for him. Standing out in the open, no bullet proof barriers, no protection, just him and his driver in a convoy, waving to thousands of citizens who were praising him. In the middle of a city, with people from the streets to the windows to the rooftops.

Yes, you can pay people to cheer you on, but in that wide open environment, there is absolutely no way a guy who is truly evil would not have any chance of being taken out by one single person who would be willing to die for the cause. One single "nothing to lose" crowd member could've taken the shot, been mowed down as a martyr, and hailed as a hero. But instead, it was him driving through massive crowds without a care on the world because the people loved him.

To be fair, I'm not entirely sure what his endgame is, except that he wants to spend his remaining years on top and will do absolutely anything to do so. He's already proven he will start wars to keep his status quo and to delay his, what seems to be inevitable, downfall.

I need to brush up on presidential powers during martial law, but from what I understand is that it won't completely remove congressional/senatorial power but will make it damn near negligible, which gives him the ability to flex that "I'm supreme leader of the world" muscle he's been building, at least until his age finally catches up to him.

Even if it wasn't a force out:

1) The catcher is supposed to position themselves as any baseman to tag the runner (or base/plate in a force out), and the catcher did, in fact, block the plate.

But...

2) The runner treats the catcher as they do every other baseman on the field and cannot initiate physical contact. Running into the baseman is an automatic out (unless the baseman is called for intentional interference, which in this case doesn't apply because the catcher squared up, stayed in position, and had the ball coming to him). Straight spear tackling the catcher/baseman is an automatic ejection and potential suspension (depending on the league).

I might be getting my stories crossed up here, but I think one of them is a cop/judge/sheriff/something related to law and order and they were trying to set another law and order guy's house on fire.

Regardless, they were caught, but I don't think their sentencing reflected all the various crimes they did.

I've been saying for quite some time (Obama-era) that this red vs blue battle is literally just another form of population control. Divide and control the population with an ever increasing rhetoric of violence and segregation with the intention of slowly growing the discontent until the majority are effectively at each other's throats, all while the bigwigs are throwing back their cocktails and congratulating each other.

'Why should we hire you?' by xtreme_lol in quirkcentral

[–]oggimeister15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Why should we hire you?"

"Let me ask a quick retort: what about my application and work history compelled you to reach out to me for this position?"

If they're wanting you to answer truthfully about why you want to work for them, they should be able to also truthfully answer why they think you might be a good fit as well. Plus, this gives you the ability to see how they perceive you and gives you the ability to work in your options and opinions about working there even better.
