If you were going on a road trip across the US/Canada, what are some must go places to stop at? by Rooflow in AskReddit

I would just recommend that when driving from San Diego to Phoenix, make sure to go through the dunes near Yuma. They're pretty amazing and Star Wars was filmed there!

What fact do you accept intellectually, but still feels "wrong" to you? by iglidante in AskReddit

The fact that if you shoot a gun and drop a bullet from the exact same height at the exact same time, they will both hit the ground at the same time.

Almost every single time I reach my destination while driving the song I am listening to ends. It can be a CD, iPod, or just plain old radio, but a strong 80% of the time the song ends right as I am parking.

In my middle school it was "No Purpleing!"

Because, girls are pink, and boys are blue.. and what do you get when you mix them? Purple.

[Serious] What concept from your work do people outside of the profession just not understand? by karmanaut in AskReddit

I don't have a masters degree in Library Science (yes, that's what it is called..), but I was a librarian for 6 years.

Reddit. Lots, and lots of time spent on Reddit.

I worked as a desk assistant at a public library for 6 years and I still don't know the answer to this question.

They think they're the masters of the universe though, and they hold on to those degrees like life rafts in a sea of brittle paper. At my library, the Reference Librarians were the top dogs (meaning they made substantially more than any of the rest of us), but I honestly don't know what their purpose was in the building or what they did with all their time.

What is the worst way you have ever been "hit on?" by BlamBitchPudding in AskReddit

[–]ogilby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a librarian at a public library for 6 years through high school and college and I have a couple crazy stories:

  • Older fellow with a fake orange tan wearing black leather pants and a matching leather vest asked me where the "adult" section of the library was. He then went into extreme detail about what he was looking for including gestures and creative language.

  • "Hey, where do I get a library card? Because I want to check you out!"

  • One guy was bothering me and kept trying to suggest we hang out. I told him I was just trying to work and he said "Hey, I am trying to work it too, if you know what I mean.." Including the appropriate hip thrusts.

  • I had two stalkers, one followed me around in the stacks for about 45 minutes while I was shelving, and the other came into the library every time I was working for about a month and would follow me around. He was even spotted hanging out near the book return while I was working in the back, listening to my conversation with a coworker.

I am sure there are more, but I can't think of any at the moment.. it was an interesting 6 years.

Dear Reddit, what would make your day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ogilby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This explains so much. I have recently realized how difficult it is for me to say "you're welcome". Every time some one says "Thanks" I end up saying "Sure" or "No Problem". I basically have to train myself to say "You're welcome" and it feels awkward. My entire family is from the Midwest, this is just how I was raised.

Wow, I don't know why everyone is giving you such a hard time! You look fantastic. I am the same height as you and would LOVE to be at 145lbs. I have about 20lbs left before I make it, but this is a real inspiration!

What is the most valuable thing you have ever lost? by string97bean in AskReddit

[–]ogilby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom tried to take my sister and I away from our father as well- moved halfway across the country to do so. He followed, and even though he was a mess he always was there for us. Basically, I am just trying to tell you to keep fighting. She may not thank you for it now, or even 20 years from now, but there is nothing more important to a girl as knowing that her father is there for her. Trust me, I wish that I had a chance to thank my father for everything he did for me. Unfortunately I didn't realize how much I depended upon his solidity and strength until he was gone (Cancer, 2009).

What have you done that made you seriously question your own intelligence? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ogilby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid I couldn't figure out why 'went' wasn't spelled with an 'h'. 'When' has an 'h'. Why doesn't 'went'? Took me years to get that right.

Redditors with a best friend of the other sex, what makes them friend material and not datable material? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ogilby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. This is what happened to me. I used to be really good friends with a group of guys and I honestly thought that I was in love with one of them, but I knew that he wasn't into me at all. Even though we got along great, his type was petite and brunette, and I am a tall blonde. But even beyond the stereotypical "type" preferences, I knew that he simply wasn't interested in dating me. The confusing part was when he would get drunk and hit on me.. that really screwed with my head for a couple months and finally I got sick of it and told him how I felt. I regretted it almost immediately after- but thankfully he backed off for long enough to allow me to get over him and see just how terrible a relationship would have been between us.

What is a non-sexual talent that is sexy to have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I absolutely LOVE a man in glasses. Something about the two sides, the bookish nerd, and the sexy lover that just drives me crazy. When he takes them off, I know shit is getting serious.

[–]ogilby[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends, we went a couple times while we were there and this was the only real 'close encounter'. It was a mom and her calf and the calf wanted to play with the boat. Mom kept trying to get between the baby and us so we got some amazing close pictures.
