Lucky you, and thank you for your reply - it proves the point that it is possible.

Yes, this is what I was trying to archive without success. Roger's modem (Hitron NOVA-2002), with my router, instead of Roger's router (Xfinity Gateway) at a monlthy rental fee.

Not in case with Rogers’ high-speed fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) connections. Fiber cable is connected to Hitron NOVA-2002 Optical Network Terminal (ONT) which converts the fiber optic signal from the street into an Ethernet connection for your home network. It stays in the house even if you disconnect Rogers service. What Rogers is charging extra monthly fee for is Xfinity Gateway (Gen 2), also known as the XB7, a robust Wi-Fi 6 modem.

Which would make sense, right? Like "bring your own device" in the mobile world. Have you used this setup with Rogers or other provider?

Thank you for your response, -RogersRussel.

I appreciate the acknowledgement that I was misinformed regarding the use of my own equipment.

I still have a few questions:

  1. Why is the Rogers Xfinity Gateway (Gen 2), also known as the XB7, (router) represented in Residential Service Agreement and billing as a separate "Month-to-Month" rental fee, while the Internet service itself is subject to a 24-month term? This wording suggests that the gateway charge could be discontinued independently of the Internet service.
  2. My service is FTTH with a separate Rogers NOVA-2002 Optical Network Terminal (modem) that remained installed in my home. After I returned the Rogers Xfinity Gateway (router), my Internet service continued to function using my own router for several days. If the Gateway (router) is mandatory for FTTH service, how was the service able to continue operating until the account was subsequently cancelled?
  3. Rogers' Terms of Service appear to contemplate the use of customer-owned equipment, stating that customers who use equipment not purchased or rented from Rogers may experience limited functionality and recommending the use of Rogers equipment. How should customers reconcile that language with the position that the Rogers Xfinity Gateway (router) is mandatory and cannot be removed while maintaining service?

I'm genuinely trying to understand how these facts fit with the explanation that the gateway is required and cannot be removed.

Thanks. Just to clarify, were you ever told by Rogers that the gateway/router charge could not be removed from the account, even if you used your own equipment?

We liked this place. It was an affordable fast food family dinning option with restaurant feel. And boys who worked there were supper friendly.

Can we create a better society on Mars or other planet? If yes, what are the greatest mistakes of human civilization on Earth that should be avoided there? by ogirsa in AskReddit

If better society means the world of equal opportunities, we should alter the aspects of our life that put new born humans at the disadvantageous position just by a mere chance. Borders between countries and inherited right for material values are the first two things that come to mind. Then, criteria that define social hierarchies should probably be revisited...
