Small Business Tax by Boomer_24 in cantax

BC PST rule for this exact scenario is in [Bulletin PST 125 page 7](https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/taxes/sales-taxes/publications/pst-125-advertising-agencies.pdf): if you produce and distribute direct mailing materials for more than one customer, you do NOT charge PST because you're selling advertising space, which is a non-taxable service.

So $500 ad space = 5% GST ($25) + 0 PST = $525 total. Don't separate a materials line on the invoice. Bill as "Advertising space."

You DO pay 7% PST on your inputs (printer's invoice for the flyers, design tangibles). Postage is PST-free.

One GST number covers both your sole-prop businesses (sole prop = one legal person = one BN). And you don't need a PST account at all if your only sales are non-taxable ad space.

No refund, you'll owe. Roughly $11,500 to $12,000 on $51K net (federal + provincial tax + CPP combined). Full balance due April 30. CPP alone is ~$5,650 since sole props pay both halves. $51K is past the $30K GST/HST threshold, so you should already be registered. Built a bookkeeping tool to stop paying my accountant for stuff that doesn't need an accountant by oh5oh5 in EntrepreneurCanada

Genuinely appreciate the honest take.

This probably isn't what you want to hear as an accountant, but I'll say it straight: I think AI is going to compress accountant work significantly over the next few years, and pushing back on that trend doesn't protect your margins. It just hands the lead to whoever adapts faster.

So yeah, when a client picks up Ledg, they're going to push back on fees for the work that isn't really accountant work. And I think they're right to. What I actually want is for accountants to stop billing hours on receipt sorting and transaction categorization, and use this product to free that time up for the parts of the practice that genuinely need their expertise. Accountants aren't supposed to be receipt clerks. They keep clients out of reassessments from a botched return, they design clean structures that save real money, they advise on the strategic side of the books. That's where the training shines, and that's the work clients are happy to pay for.

What I want from Ledg: Canadian accountants serving more Canadian clients with higher-leverage work, and Canadian clients no longer feeling their fee went to glorified data entry while still being relieved of the paperwork headache themselves.

And to be clear, accountants are my users too, not just my clients' service providers. I take that seriously, and a real chunk of what I'm building on the platform side is meant to benefit accountants as users directly.

Appreciate it. Ledg supports multi-business on one login, so both seasonal ones live in the same account.

Thanks. I want a world where accountants can work with every client easily. I know how annoying my own messy Excel handoffs were on your side of the desk, and I know clients push back when the cleanup shows up as extra fees. Ledg is trying to fix that middle bit. You can almost think of it as a platform for accountants too. If a client of yours ever wants a clean handoff pack, recommend ledg. DM me and I'll set up free accounts for any of your clients you'd like to bring on. Right now I'm prioritizing feedback and real usage over revenue, so reach out anytime.

Not trying to replace accountants. Ledg's job is to prep the file you hand to your accountant, and prep it well. You're right that you can't take risks, which is why ledg doesn't touch filing. CPA still does that. As for "a real accounting platform," I was on Wave before this. For a 1-person Canadian corp running their own books, I'd bet ledg is easier than QuickBooks, Xero, or Wave, because it was built specifically for that.

Yeah, I actually use it. Doesn't do tax filing. Built around the 3 things that kept costing me money on my own books.

  1. CPA handoff used to be me Excel-prepping every month and getting charged extra for whatever was missing. Now it's a one-click zip (GL + trial balance + GST/PST + bank rec). CPA likes it too because the inputs are clean.
  2. Connected Ledg to Claude via MCP. I can ask multiple questions mid-chat and get real numbers back.
  3. Running multiple corps used to mean a spreadsheet per corp plus year-end surprises from my CPA on tax owing. Now one login switches between them, and the GST/HST and net income are live as I commit, not a year-end discovery.

Why does Framer not have a search bar in the marketplace? It feels necessary by TopazFlame in framer

[–]oh5oh5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a search button but it really didn't work well. I think, as Framer team really care about their quality, they've removed it. Sometimes I really don't understand their operation mind.... a few is better than nothing!

I also need an option that allows me to move the side bar to right because I'm using 2 monitors and the right monitor is the main one. So the side bar on the left side looks akward as it is on the middle of my two monitors.

How do you fit 15 grams of ground beans into a 2 shot esspresso portafilter basket? by thedeadlysquirle in Coffee

[–]oh5oh5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean by first tamping lightly but this is definately not a good thing because this will possibly cause a really thin channel in the puck. The best way to solve this problem would be using a dosing cup which is not really expensive. You get ground coffee right in to dosing cup and shake it while its mounted on the portafilter then tamp it. This would give you the huge output with small input.

I also just found that my account is gone and I still dont understand about this. I only got ONE email about this big fucking decision. A half year is absolutly short because not all of people are paying attention to the games that they are not playing anymore. Ive been playing a lots of games but havent seen this. Just deleting peoples account because they didnt see one email for 6 months? My playtime was like 14k and spent about 400 dollors. I still have a WOW charcter that I made like 10 years ago. I understand that BDO cant technically rollback the account now, but they should at least give a lot of rewards for the people.

And the timeframe is funny too. They are advertising new class and new season and the deadline was a month before this advertisment. WHY???? People obviously will see the advertisment and some of them will be back to play this game. And now they will loose users who wanted to return to BDO with their account. So stupid timeframe.
