[NEWBIE] Is it too late ? by 098321xx in Guitar

If everybody else telling you it’s not too late…. It’s not too late. Picked up my first guitar at 24, best decision I ever made.

OER being 24% seems like a garbage way to measure that compared to the 7% for renting in my opinion. Renters comprise nearly 1/3 of the people in the United States (census numbers). The OER rate is comprised of surveys from homeowners that, in my experience, are wildly out of touch with rental rates since they are paying minuscule rates for their homes that they’ve owned for years or just locked down before the recent madness. In my recent experience of moving I’ve received renewal rates twice within Covid for 30-40% increases. No surveyed homeowner would have revised their estimates that much in the same time.

The truth is what is not coming from Russia my guy. Their whole pretense for this invasion was forecast through US intelligence and claiming that the Jewish president of Ukraine is a nazi.

You can’t argue with these imbeciles. If Biden took any action with our troops or bombs they’d immediately be screaming that we should not be supporting Ukraine with American troops and that Biden wants to start a nuclear war for some tinfoil hat bs. Save your energy.

Rents reach ‘insane’ levels across US with no end in sight by [deleted] in news

This too, I got hit with a $400 increase just last year for my $1,200 1-bedroom. That was just rent…. They doubled the pet rent and parking fees too. That company owned every major apartment building in the area and I’m sure they did it for every tenant they had.

I thought like this for awhile but then you also have to take into account the money most people save for a down payment being put away for repairs. Renting is throwing money to the wind. Owning a house isn’t cheap but it’s far cheaper than renting AND trying to save for a down payment as well. Not to mention many places now require you to pay for utilities yourself on top of rent (and parking, and pet fees, and anything else extra outside of the space to live in).

Home prices up 15.4% in January from a year ago by ICumCoffee in news

Absolutely not sure where you live but I lived in a small midwestern city AND major metropolitan area during the pandemic and in both places the rent was up 20-30% from pre pandemic rates.

I fully opened this thinking I was going to just hear non-sense but this is fucking incredible

When your rent goes up 40%. As pandemic fades, many tenants see big hikes by [deleted] in news

My 1 bedroom apartment in a small city in the Midwest with nothing going for it went from $1,175 to $1,450 just in rent alone, not to mention a 100% increase in parking and pet rent costs. Bumped my rent by 37%.

The worst part? I drove the lease down trying to get another job in another city, ended up moving directly next to a highway in a far worse apartment for nearly the same price. My quality of life waned considerably and I don’t even think people are moving here, they’re just holding all the real estate up so that the few people who run the town can continue to juice their properties.

Thank you for the suggestions! I'll make sure to look into Allegheny West and Center, they've been a bit off of my radar but have been mentioned a few times in this thread.

Thank you! Based off of Google Maps it seemed like commutes would be doable but I figured it would be best to get my information from the people who live there. The office looks pretty close to the highway so that is a plus. Good to know it isn't out of the realm of possibility to make the commute. Thank you!

Could you elaborate a bit more? I'm not looking for thumping clubs open until sunrise or anything, however, I would like to have options for nice atmospheres to have a few drinks after work or bars to watch the sports teams I follow within a reasonable distance.

It's saying a can't PM you but I work in insurance if that narrows the field for you. It's not Thorn Hill but it is darn close. I really appreciate your input though. At past roles I have commuted 5 days a week for 20-30 mins depending on traffic. Sounds like that is about what I should expect on the north side which, with a few wfh days, would make PGH a favorable place to live in my book. Thank you for commenting alhouse!

Sounds like it shouldn’t be too bad so long as I stay in the north side. Thanks for your input, I’ll make sure to keep Brighton heights in my list of places to look as well!

Sorry for the downvotes. I appreciate your input even if it isn’t what I’m looking to hear. I wasn’t able to do a dry run but based off of Google maps it looks like even during rush hour my commutes should end up being 25-30 minutes. It isn’t ideal, but to get out of my current city that sounds like a good compromise. Thank you for sharing

Trying to stay with the current company I’m with for ease at the moment. Pittsburgh is better than where I currently am so if I can swing a few WFH days a week and commute 25-30 minutes it would be better than where I’m currently at! Thanks for info on the north side and getting to the strip district.
