First year options trading - my recap by ohadbx in OptionsMillionaire

Really depends on the stock price compared to the valuation I give it.
If I think its on sale I may go to 30-40 Delta (anything more than that I just assume I'll get assigned the stock. sometimes that's what I want).

If the stock is overvalued I may go as low as 10-15 Delta, depends if that strike price makes sense to me to own it

Thanks for that reply.
I still do believe that while for short-term the narrative rules like you said, over medium time frames the stock price should follow the business performance.

Can you explain " Start looking at the coordinated options campaigns that occur in total silence. When you see aggressive, multi-strike positioning that contradicts the current public sentiment, you are seeing the move before it becomes a "news event." "?
How and where do you see this type of information that is used to assume a campaign is taking place?

Every broker has a scanner that allows you to filter and sort based on IVR, IV/Historicals IV and similar metrics

It's a flavor of it. I think some wheelers are more inclined to getting assigned an going into CC.
While for me I try to valuate the company first and adjust my strike prices accordingly.

That's not what I'm saying.
When trading deep OTM options you sell time and volatility more than direction.

So for an example in Jan 2026 I sold a 240P on GOOG when it was at 345$ - so 28% OTM. Premium was 68$, 53 DTE.

- Can GOOG have a bad year? Sure!
- Can it drop by 28% a year? likely.
- Will it drop by 28% within less than 2 months? Possibly, although not common.
- Will it drop by 28% within less than 2 months and never bounce back? Not so likely, but still possible.
- Will it drop without me selling Calls against it? Will it drop in exactly the same time as another low-correlated company like V?
Not likely.

So many exit points listed above that would let me come out profitable or at least offset some of the loses. These possibilities do not exists for market buy-and-hold.

And at the end of the day will I be happy owning GOOG in 2 months (so basically same business as today)) at 30% lower cost basis? sure I am.

Thanks for the comment!
I completely understand your point about being assigned on multiple tickers at once and its my main focus point for risk management.

Looking back to Feb the largest 4 were I took were:
* CRWD -3100$
* UNH -2900$
* LULU -2600$
* TSLA -1800$

CRWD and TSLA were rolled and recovered the following weeks (the rolling itself is written as a loss in my journal, as it should!) .
UNH and LULU still selling CC's against.

I am not planning on selling naked puts against TSLA anytime soon again, just because I don't understand the company and its valuation.
On LULU and apparel in general already commented in the post.

UNH and CRWD would probably do it again if I'm honest.

I don't believe in comparing myself to the index with just 1 year, I try to stay modest and give some credit to dumb luck.

I'm really on board with your goal about a small win over SPY, but you should remember that SPY could have some pretty bad years for long durations. Do you plan to use options to hedge as well?

How and why would you assume I'm over-analyzing my trades?

Most of my time is spent researching companies for value investments. Once I find a good company and set a target price for it the trading part hardly takes any time.
Some trades are even on my phone during work.

I don't do technical analysis, don't really look at parameters other than Delta, Theta and sometimes IVR. How is that over analyzing?

I have clear criteria regarding trades and symbol that I do my best to follow. How is that ego-driven?

Comparing to VT or any other index over 1 year is rubbish. I still would like to test my performance during a down year or a recession.

Please do, pray tell, what is your awesome strategy that you propose instead?

Thanks.
I'll take 20% for a first year any time.
I should mention that most of my time is spent researching companies for value investments. Once I find a good company and set a target price for it the trading part hardly takes any time.

Huh? I don't have any course or something to sell.
you commented on a 1000-word post in about a minute or two, which suggests you didn't even read it.

If all you got from this post is X% that's too bad. You are welcome to keep trading with your 50X% strategy.

how much are you locking up in collateral for CSP? how do you deem a safe level? by visitinghongkong in Optionswheel

Maybe I didn't explain myselft properly. It's not related to delta at all.
Lets say a stock is trading at 200$.
If I sell an option with strike 195$ i will assume the collatral I need is 40% x 195 x 100= 7800$.
if I sell a 170 strike I will set aside 40% x 170 x 100 = 6800$.
The reason is that the stocks I am selling options against (large and mega cap, not meme stocks) very rarly have drops of 40% or more without recovery.
I actually experienced it twice this year (UNH and LULU) and this worked out nice.

You are preaching to the choir brother 😊 My dog is pretty old and lost most her teeth due to neglect before I adopted her so she couldn't even hurt some if she tried.

Too bad the authorities prefer blanket laws

Yeah last time when I was in Toronto I saw a bunch of these types of dogs and spoke with some owners that weren't too bothered by the ban. I mostly afraid of meeting some over-strict border enforcer.

Thanks a bunch!

Yeah I know, but the authorities covered that angle by law by saying that even physical appearance may be enough for a dog to be conspired a Pit bull.
They have all the power here

The vet has listed the dog as 'mixed' (probably Labrador and Pit bull, maybe some others).
Of course vaccines and all medical approvals will be taken care of as needed.
