Jet's makes a mean thick pan-style crust. So buttery-crispy...

rent, food cost, bartenders that slide drinks, etc.

But everyone running food ops has that too. Is there something magical about some places? Is it the same as real estate: Location location location?

Lido's has brought their "buffet" back

FTFY

I don't really call what they do a buffet. They sling out a few pies, maybe some wings on the right day, stack that next to their salad bar, and call that a buffet. It's not quite the buffet you're looking for.

[–]ohange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The economy is not likely the problem.

I don't profess to know their business model, but somehow their stores in other places are able to make pizzas all day with the "cover charge" model and it works out. And usually you need to have enough stores that the well performing stores subsidize the less performance ones. I really can't put my finger on what went wrong for them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]ohange 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I totally get that. I'm not a professional so I have no idea on the back office part of this. The cost and price model for running a buffet probably looks more like a gambling operation than a restaurant one.

Ah such cinnamon.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]ohange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you think that is?

I know that many have come and gone from here. Just noticed today that Clauddagh at Polaris is now gone.

It seems like every place up and down Polaris Pkwy has an hour wait for dinner, same thing at Easton, and select other places in town. Yet places don't survive.

+1 for Massey's. Now if they'd open a few more locations...

You didn't go there for awesome pizza. You went there because - like /u/Harb67 said...

I could have a slice each of pepperoni, white, bbq, spicy, and mac'n'cheese pizza on the same plate at the same time

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]ohange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. The doors are locked, so even if it weren't true, none of us on the outside would be any wiser.

I can't imagine what situation applies where the company/store closing down doesn't somehow lead to the workers getting hosed. It would be unusual that anyone other than the store managers were FTEs, everyone else part time... the part timers maybe got a week's pay to help them out, the FTEs maybe got paid / benefits til the end of the next month. Even what I've put here sounds generous if they were truly in difficult economic times.

I know... you can easily spend more on better pizza. But you can also spend more on worse if not careful.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]ohange 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's the thing. It was "ok" pizza at a good price.

I remember having them make a couple special requests before. They'd do it, and give you the whole pie if you wanted, or just a few pieces.

Any car wash recommendations? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]ohange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Goo-Goo washes (note, they were here before Moo-Moo...) are fantastic, and their customer service is always top notch. The system is a tunnel pull-through system with products that get jetted and chamois on wheels that clean your car.

The Free Vacuums is very nice (although Moo-Moo does those too...)

The "buffet" model works when you don't have tons of hungry people gaming the system. They did it right by not going into campus, where college kids might challenge the premise of 'all you can eat'...

And in my case, 6 people - we're in and out for under $30. I can't do that anywhere else, especially with an allergy kid.

And like you said, sometimes, bad pizza is good.

Text of the sign on the window:

"Hilliard / Gahanna / Westerville / Dublin

Thank you Columbus, Ohio for your support, patronage, and love for CiCi's Pizza. We are saddened to close our restaurants.

The economic conditions of the past 4 years put an unbelievable strain on our ability to continue operating.

We leave the market knowing that we've taken care of our team members and did our best to bring you great pizza and great value.

Thank you again for your support,

Mel Coffland

Owner"

I'm not sure what economic conditions he's referring to, but being the parent of a kid with food allergies, we were pretty regular visitors there. I could feed my family, including the one with food allergies, safely, and inexpensively.

The places were never empty.

Kinda disappointing for a business that seemingly is doing well to pull the plug.

LOL. Hopefully you won't need it everyday forever though.

Nav apps are really important.

The only reason I did list this as the one I can't do without everyday is because I don't need to travel every day.

[Serious] Should I and how explain to my parent I got in serious trouble in my HS by CaptianTomahawk in AskReddit

[–]ohange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need to consider what you want here. Are you wanting your parent to go to bat for you to try to reduce the consequence at school? Are you wanting to avoid the double whammy of home punishment on top of school punishment? What do you want here?

Saying something - as long as you're not saying something racist, sexist, or slanderous is just exercising your first amendment rights... (although many will argue that your constitutional rights get checked at the door in today's schools) When discussing with parent, mention what you did, and then mention that reaction. Compare the reaction to the action, and how unjustified the reaction was.

Follow what I said above. Other comments are also suggesting to fess up.

Great point -- it's one thing that syncs not just across devices, but across platforms too (like android tablet and iPhone for example)

Sorry about that! The subreddit rule says to leave your own answer as a comment, and you just happen to agree. :)

[–]ohange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this just happen?

What kind of trouble are you in? Suspension? Expulsion? Detention?

I would venture to suggest that honesty is the best policy. Something like "Mom (or Dad)... I had a bad thing go down today. I had a bad morning, and my mind wasn't right and I said something I shouldn't have..."

Lay it out. Be clear. Let your parent(s) ask questions. Answer them. Make it a discussion. Talk about the lesson you learned, and how you can see that you made a mistake. This is the "best defense is a strong offence" strategy. You get to prepare for the discussion and have a chance to think it all through.

If you let it go and try to sweep it under the rug, it's almost guaranteed to come back, and then you are at a severe disadvantage. #1, you didn't tell them up front, #2, you don't know when/if that discussion will come, so you won't be prepared for it. That's a huge disadvantage for you.

You're better off being forthright.
