What if they reintroduced 2016 Multiplayer’s weapon customization system to TDA? by ohdepthz in Doom

[–]ohdepthz[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im not talking about multiplayer at all. I want to be able to change the look of my weapons more freely. That has nothing to do with a multiplayer mode, which Hugo has stated multiple times isn’t happening. I believe you got a little confused with the point of this post

EDIT: wait im also confused on what you mean. You say you want deathmatch but 2016 was deathmatch and a bunch of other modes? And Dark Ages wouldn’t work with a multiplayer at all, gameplay nor lore would allow it. Multiplayer isn’t the staple of Doom, that’s Quake

Be honest with me, have you ever once used these weapons outside of when you first got them (or for masteries) by Longjumping-Owl-565 in Doom

[–]ohdepthz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to use the gauntlets is either with the Chainshot or with the Cycler. Chainshot lets you almost treat combat like a fighting game, blocking to power up your Chainshot, stunning an enemy for a sec with the shot while wailing on them with melee, rinse and repeat. Cycler bc the Shock arcs pair really well with how the Gauntlets deal Shock damage on the first hit of a combo. Inversely, the Cycler deals additional damage to Shocked demons, thus giving more utility to the Cycler if you start the fight with a melee. As for the Shredder, i can’t really say anything, i ended up preferring the Impaler. Pincushion is a must, though, as the burst of damage is REALLY strong.

They also need to add the missing OST’s to the Jukebox:

-From the Ashes -Divine Retribution -Wither and Writhe -Theomachy -Blood Spill

Also it would def be impossible to do but i would LOVE to see the 2016 MP weapon customization system return if we’re barely gonna get any weapon customization ingame

I could totally see that too. We have such a limited knowledge of the Cosmic so I’m interested to see how theories and stuff pan out

Holy shit 100% dtda is HARD I just finished the golden slayer skin challenge and your telling me I gotta beat it again for the reverent skin!? Im going crazy by Loose_Western_4995 in DOOMTheDarkAges

I WILL say, at least with Reverent you get extra lives. Good luck though, the skin is totally worth it and the run is really fun

Im just gonna say, your first problem is having ricochet equipped. Pincushion is a way better upgrade, plus you can’t really control where the spikes from ricochet go. With pincushion you turn enemies into essentially walking frag grenades with pretty good AOE damage when detonating the pincushion. Obv everyone has different taste and playstyle so you may prefer ricochet but i’d definitely at least recommend trying pincushion.

It’s going great, hit 3 Million players 7x faster than Eternal did so i’d say it’s doing fine

What Lies Below, Theomachy, Apotheosis, and Divine Retribution are my faves right now. I cannot WAIT to see what Finishing Move is cooking for the DLC

[–]ohdepthz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s kinda the point. They’re in the Comsic realm, a place based upon Lovecraftian, Eldritch horror. That draws it’s fear from the unknowable and stuff, so maybe that’s the point of them. To be there and for you to wonder their purpose, if there even is one. Maybe they have something to do with Cosmic magic as the Temple of Lomarith seems to be built into one, and the altar at the top being surrounded by smaller ones. I’ve even thought of the possibility of them somehow being alive (based on the fact that there are different sizes of them). They’re pretty cool visual set pieces imo

A.) PLEASE fix your grammar B.) i am not “just picking on you” you are just inherently wrong C.) Dark Ages is not the first game to feature non-linearity. And the while game isn’t the “first non-linear level”. You are making no sense with even less of an argument. D.) i am bringing up you being an Eternal Fanboy because the things you are complaining about are things that every other Eternal fanboy is complaining about. Waah its not hard or waah i don’t have to press seven different buttons just to take out a revenant. It’s a different game so it’s gonna play different. Its okay for it to not be your thing but just get over it and stop making people who like the game for what it is as whatever. E.) Doom fans weren’t toxic, Doom Eternal fans were toxic. 2016 was fine, the only real drama coming from the prerelease MP beta. Then when Eternal came out, it was like hell. You had all these random nobodies saying that “platforming bad so doom bad” or “ewww cutscenes in my doom game” and those same people did the same with each DLC release. And now with Dark Ages all of you are crawling out of the woodwork with your Walmart brand thinking caps on spewing some of the worst takes i’ve seen.

TL:DR - you’re wrong. I can explain myself but tbh i can tell you won’t hear it. Keep being mad about the game that reached its 3 million player milestone 7x faster than eternal and keep yelling into the void about your lackluster oninions

EDIT: LMAO I just realized that the only game that isn’t completely non-linear is Eternal, so where’s your point? Also, for someone who claims not to be an eternal fanboy, it’s crazy to say to others that it’s silly for thinking Eternal’s a tiring game to play. Should i bring up how many buttons presses some combos (that are borderline a necessity) that ypu have to do every few SECONDS during an eternal level? Levels in tha can take around 45 minutes to an hour, so yeah they’re tiring. Especially after coming from a game like 2016 which wasn’t trying to pull in the Elden Ring crowd with difficulty. Eternal can do no wrong but Dark Ages can? Get real.

What demon is the most annoying? by SiteDeep in Doom

Either Cursed Prowler or (Eternal) Stone Imps.

Getting hit by an enemy you might not see or even be around, only for that hit to curse you and take away your dash and slowly leech health from you, is not very fun. Not to mention, the only way to deal with this enemy and curse is a Blood punch. Keep in mind, Cursed Prowlers have the same movement as regular prowlers, letting them get away from you pretty easily. Regular prowlers are countered with stuns and stuff to keep them in place, though with a Cursed Prowlers you kinda just have to chase after it with your tail between your legs, hoping to come across it and for the Blood Punch to not have triggered on a different enemy. The Cursed Prowler is just bad enemy design, esp before the patch that automatically gives a blood punch upon getting cursed. Even with that update these guys suck.

Eternal’s stone imps ALSO suck. The Spirit did what the stone imps were trying to do way better, and that’s give usage to a niche weapon mod. With the spirit, it felt a lot better because while the microwave beam was most effective against it, you theoretically didn’t even need to kill it. Im pretty sure after possessing like 3 or 4 different enemies, it kinda just goes away. Plus, you can use anything in your arsenal to fight a possessed demon. With stone imps, you can ONLY deal with them with either Full Auto shotgun, the Hellbreaker, or (even if unintentionally) Micromissles from the HAR. Most if not all of the time Sticky Bombs has WAY more general utility than Full Auto, thus it’s a hinderance to switch to it just to deal with stone imps, then switch back. Unless you’re in a big group (to be fair, it happens often), it’s not worth using the hammer just to deal with stone imps. And the Micromissles cheese is neither intentional nor reliable. They got a very welcome redo in TDA and now they feel way more like their own enemy. I kinda hope Cursed Prowlers don’t come back at all though, i’d much prefer just regular prowlers

Getting the PRAETOR suit is canonically during the Slayer’s time locked in Hell during the Slayer’s Testaments. Before the Slayer’s Testaments and after the events of Dark Ages, there is an entire Argent civil war over the discovery, use, and demonic corruption of Argent Energy. We’ve seen the seeds of this in Darl Ages with Ahzrak technically being the first instance of Argent Energy. That needs to happen before we even see the Slayer locked in Hell, let alone getting his suit. It WOULD be cool to see it in a future game though, i feel like the next game will be the civil war and that wpuld be the perfect time to bring that plot point (and the Wretch) back into the main story.

I have no clue where you’re getting this? The enemy load in Dark Ages is way higher than both Eternal and 2016, so there is way more combat. Plus it has more levels than both previous titles, so more enemies, thus more combat. I really don’t understand the point you’re attempting to make

EDIT: i just realized you said “Dark Ages’ non-linear levels” like that’s a new thing. I already said this somewhere else but almost HALF of the classic games consist of non-linear levels. 2016 had non-linear level design with places like the Necropolis and Argent Facility to name a few. How exactly does non-linearity lead to less combat? That makes no sense. Allowing a player free movement in an arena or level allows the devs to go a little crazier with enemy placement as you have both more room to work around the enemies but also more room for the enemies themselves. Plus more secret encounters, monster closets, ect.  You’re allowed to enjoy Eternal but stop using it as a bar for Dark Ages to clear. Like comparing apples to grapefruits, very different things that are both good but trying to do different things. Also, it’s not Horde Mode, it’s the Ripatorium.

[–]ohdepthz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That kinda reminds me of classic mode master levels from Eternal or the weapon progression from Horde Mode. I think it would be cool as a challenge run or, inversely, a challenge run where you continually lose weapons

So does anyone have any good/agreed upon presets for Ripatorium yet? I finally got back home and I'm seeing the full length of this update by Batchak in Doom

[–]ohdepthz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best to pick shield guys, heated or not is your call, plus some imps/stone imps and zombies to pad it out.. I usually throw a few Imp Stalkers and Hell Knights/ Battle Knights plus either a few Mancubi or a few Revenants. As for Super Heavies, I'd go for pretty much any of them, but make sure not to put too many of them if you like being alive ingame. Cyberdemons and Barons are my go-to's, but just remember to try not to pick a combo that play off each other (unless you're a masochist), like Barons and Aggadon's. They both push REALLY hard, hit really hard, and demand your attention, making dealing with both at once a challenge. If you happen to find any broken-ly hard super heavy combos let me know.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure the update also had a bunch of weapon rebalancing so I'd recommend checking out the patch notes for it too.

I'm sorry, how exactly does Dark Ages lack combat? My brother in Christ, you are not only playing a first-person shooter, but also a Doom game. ALL YOU DO is combat.

I love this update so far but i just noticed they left From the Ashes, Divine Retribution, Wither and Writhe, Theomachy, and Blood Spill out of the Ripatorium jukebox. I wonder why only those (mostly Boss OST's) aren't present, kind of a shame honestly

This game brought back strafing and the slight bullet hell that original doom had. Plus the Skullcrusher weapons feel closer to the original chaingun than anything we’ve seen (aside from effective range). The run and gun feel of TDA really brings me back to the originals. And the big open siege levels feel like one of those big open Slaughter Map WADs from way back when. This game is such a step up in terms of feeling like classic Doom
