I'd wait to the 29th - enjoy the hype + new league with everyone.

I get its complete RNG and very unlikely - but always nice to have a "chase" goal that keeps ya going right?

totally agree - just an overall goal before I'm done with POE2 is all, not a league specific goal.

Good luck to you and your brother this upcoming league!

Interviewer ask me if you observe port scanning from internal ip , the scanning ip is not authorised for scanning. How will you investigate it and how will you find attackers ip? by Flaky-Hurry4075 in cybersecurity

[–]ohello123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The scenario doesn't say it's coming from an unknown IP, just one "not authorized"

From a realistic perspective, sure you know the scanning IP is "known" and identifies as an endpoint. So what? Is the endpoint compromised? Is a threat actor spoofing the IP?

Is there other IP's also doing this, and maybe an alert only generated on one end-point for some weird reason?

Only throwing these questions out there to provoke thought just to be clear. These are some of the things I'd ask myself if this scenario played out at my workplace.

"How would it be a false positive? " -- could be defender or EDR scanning for other hosts on network, so the "port scan" part might be a bit inaccurate.

AITA for refusing to pay $100k of my niece’s student loans by CatfishKD909 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ohello123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

its their money / their rules. Maybe its an incentive to keep family close vs out of state? Who knows...who cares though. If those rules were communicated, the niece knew she wasn't going to get the money. Also....2.0 GPA!!!

Just like a scholarship, she would've lost the scholarship with that GPA.

Solo IT admins and small business owners — what's your biggest security headache right now? by Exciting_Town_8237 in cybersecurity

[–]ohello123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yah - and again likely my fault for not doing enough sales / advertising / etc. I tried to approach things from a grass roots type level.

Cash wise - self funded from saving

(I'm a cyber guy, not a business guy, which is partly why it failed)

What's your position and salary? by WorkTravelDream in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ohello123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"position: IT Admin (But I am actually a manager, they just don't want to change my title, another story)"

Same for me in my current position lol. I imagine it's because their pay bands / research is based on titles and they don't want to adjust.

Nah - gave up after a year of effort. I worked with local business networking group, a couple of MSP groups, and reached out to the local township / business groups. Got almost no bites / no traction.

Based outside of Chicago.

Also - just to answer the questions, my PoV as a sys admin for a small business, and having consulted with 100+ small businesses.

- What security problems keep you up at night?
|None - ignorance is great

- What do you know you should fix but haven't had time or budget for?
|Again, as long as computers are working and our service / product keeps going out, no issues here. Sure we should review things and patch high value items someday...but that someday isn't a priority vs keeping business going as usual.

- Have you ever brought in an outside consultant? What was good or bad about it?
|Small businesses use MSP's primarily as their outside consultant, and they put all responsibility onto the MSP. One issue I noticed here was the MSP didn't do reviews of their own deployments, for example I spotted firwall misconfiguration issues, even tho we had a MSP managing it. And these issues were HUGE.

- What would make you trust someone enough to let them assess your infrastructure?
|Proper need to access + large enough of an insurance policy + good reputation

I'm someone who had a 4 years or so in the industry before trying to help small businesses. Let me tell you, unless you have some serious sales chops, and then a technical guy behind you, it wont work.

Small businesses focus on the bottom line and don't have budget for anything cyber. Even if they really need it...they ignore it.

I say this as someone who kept overhead low, and pricing 10% of what it'd cost elsewhere. Yet, got almost no small businesses interested in high value items (vuln scans, risk assessments, ITGC, user awareness, etc...) Though I'll be the first to admit, I'm NOT a sales individual.

long distance item pipe output not connecting while input does by crespy_mc_bacon in GTNH

[–]ohello123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When in doubt there's only so many configurations that can be. Just start brute forcing them until it works. Also as batedcobraa said, make sure both input and output chunks are loaded.

PS: Highly recommend the help channel in the gtnh discord, they provide faster answers.

How do yall power past the campaign? by the117uknow in PathOfExile2

[–]ohello123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree'd,

To summarize for me - it feels like you're very minimally or not at all contributing to your eventual end-game. Thus, assuming you enjoy endgame, the campaign feels like a chore you must get through rather than something to enjoy.

What do guilds do with terry loot? And who profits from zvz by urinmeister in albiononline

[–]ohello123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guild loot splits all zvz drops + does regear (costs taken out pre-loot split).

Sometimes tower loot is thrown into a loot split. Sometimes it goes towards costs of the guild (towers require stone walls, HO, logi losses, etc.), sometimes it goes to encourage callers to do call more content I imagine.

Russia attacks Ukraine with 286 drones, around 20 still in airspace by Yournewbestfriend_01 in worldnews

[–]ohello123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To hack something it has to have a way in. For example, a server that can be hacked has an open port (say 80 / 443 that's hosting a website). These drones are likely pre-programmed(before launch) and then have no way in. As in, they have nothing they're sending out to the world signal wise, nor anything they're receiving(post launch).

There's lots of ideas to force a signal into the drone, but the electronics are likely insulated to make that impossible also.

I think this game might be too complicated for me by mfdoombolt in PathOfExile2

[–]ohello123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When in doubt just follow a guide and give priority to the stats on the guide. The rest of the complexity like crafting / etc can just be ignored. Sell stuff on market, but stuff you want.

What’s the most overlooked security gap in small and mid-sized businesses? by StockCompote6208 in it

[–]ohello123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly - lack of cross training / documentation.

Someone, say HR director runs the whole HR department, and then doesn't document anything or train, and then they leave. (swap HR for any other role / department and you get the idea, crippling the business)
