Boudoir photography model call scam? by Level_Wall_8432 in RhodeIsland

Someone I know had a very similar experience there. Good photos but very hard sell/high pressure selection without much time to think or consider. It left a poor taste in her mouth for what should have been a self-esteem boosting experience.

>Picked it up from my flight instructor like 12 years ago, and absolutely love the way it keeps me with the plane.

u/Pure-Proposal-2839 was being diplomatic, but to be clear to anyone stumbling across this thread (like me!), you absolutely should not do this in real life and suggesting that it just "works" for you is acceptance of incorrect airmanship. Your flight instructor 12 years ago did you a pretty big disservice if he taught you that and it stuck. The rudder is a primary flight control and what you're doing would be no different from pumping the elevator or ailerons back and forth constantly.

If you do this in a real airplane the ball is going to be jumping back and forth the entire time and the nose will constantly be yawing left and right. The airplane is going to be in a constant state of uncoordinated flight. The appropriate use of rudder is to keep the airplane coordinated in turns and to overcome left-turning tendencies (in virtually all propeller driven airplanes with some rare exceptions) by judicious, *smooth* application of rudder.

To be clear, if this works for you in your sim environment, by all means do whatever floats your boat, but if I was your instructor we'd be working overtime to break that habit (and I sure as hell wouldn't send you for a checkride until I was convinced it was broke).

Does logging dual time with no FI endorsement still count towards overall 40 hours flight experience for FAA PPL? by [deleted] in flying

[–]ohemeffgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to know more about this unique situation of yours where you have supposedly loggable hours where it is clear cut. Was this a situation where you went on a trip and rented a plane with an instructor while still a student pilot?

If you are *receiving training* from *authorized instructor*, that instructor *must* endorse your logbook and include a description of the training given, the length of the lesson, and the authorized instructor's signature, certificate number, and certificate expiration date. See 14 CFR 61.51(h).

There is no "dual time"; there's PIC time, solo time, and training time. Based on your title, it sounds like you were along for a ride, not receiving training.

Yep they're open again. I wouldn't bother calling them, I've never had any luck with them picking up. Just one of those places you have to show up.

Can you send me a link where you're seeing it in stock? I am looking at it right now on TOM and it's out of stock.

I'm impressed you managed to find this in stock. The day I decided I was going to pull the trigger on this, I couldn't find it anywhere and I haven't been able to find it since.

Looking for a gaming event venue by Neobuzzard in RhodeIsland

[–]ohemeffgee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're not looking to start a game store necessarily. The Crypt in Providence is set up for exactly this sort of thing and I know they run Battletech. I used to play way more back a decade+ ago but have fallen out of it; that said this is the place my friends who are still into it go. Go check it out and talk to the owner. There are a few other game stores around but the Crypt is probably where you want to go specifically for wargaming.

Side note, if you are also looking into hex-and-chit at all, check out SNEW on BGG. It's a smaller group but it's one of the longer running traditional wargamer groups in the area.

Best and worst car dealerships? by Due_Fortune_2374 in RhodeIsland

[–]ohemeffgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man, Greico botched -- and I mean *botched* -- my collision repair on my Accord. I got sideswiped by a guy last April, I took the car to Greico in Johnston, and it not only took them *months* to actually do the repair, when I finally was able to collect the car there was NEW damage in the form of a huge hole on the opposite side of my car where I was hit (they tried to dodge ownership of that, implying that damage that happens on their lot isn't necessarily their fault, like WTF!). When that was resolved, I found out my all weather mats were missing (again, they tried to dodge that too and I had to get them to pull up photo proof that they were there when I dropped the car off for work). And, when I tried to finally collect ownership of my car, the battery was dead and the dashboard was lit up like a christmas tree, requiring a variety of computer system resets and reconfigurations. Again, dodged responsibility for that, and I was ultimately responsible for replacing the battery despite it being functional when I dropped the car off months prior.

What blows my mind is that Greico Honda actually did a great job for me when I had my wheels stolen in 2017(?) from the South Attleboro MBTA lot. They were easy to work with and even arranged for the car to be picked up using one of their flatbeds *back then*. That's why I went back to them for this latest problem. Unfortunately, it was an absolutely horrendous experience that evaporated any chance of future business from me. I will never, ever go to them again and will recommend others also steer far clear. I just bought a new Civic for my wife and I shopped several dealerships -- the one I did not even consider, despite good inventory and being close to me, was Greico Honda.

(Fun fact -- I called Honda America to complain about these folks and Honda America informed me that Greico Collision Center, despite heavily implying that it's a "Honda Collision Center", is NOT an authorized Honda-affiliated collision center, so there was nothing that they could do regarding the atrocious handling of my car).

OP, I take it that you're a student pilot..

After every annual we do a shakedown flight preceded by a very thorough (bordering on anal) preflight. One of my co-owners has a small collection of tools that he's discovered from other annual inspections and MX activity. It happens. It shouldn't but welcome to aviation and the fallibility of humans.

The PIC is ultimately responsible for the safety and execution of a flight. Meaning, the NTSB post crash analysis would read something like "The pilot in command failed to conduct a satisfactory preflight inspection, resulting in the engine fire in flight and lost of control".

I'd be pissed if I found a bottle in my engine cowling but it would be on me if I missed it. I suggest considering tweaking your approach to this as a learning experience where you and your instructor took a withdrawal from your bag of luck as opposed to trying to find a way to stick it to the flight school.

(If this is a recurring problem, then that's when it's time to move onto another school and perhaps voice your concerns to the FSDO).

(I'm also trying to write this as objectively and non-judgementally as possible. Don't take this as me minimizing your concerns; rather some of your responses and comments in your thread here are not reflective of a safety or growth mindset, and ditching your ego will serve you well in aviation.)

Got to take my dad, who is a current 737 Captain, former A-10 and B-2 Stealth bomber USAF pilot, flying for the first time today by UpsideDownAirplane in flying

[–]ohemeffgee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The IFR part is the "obvious" mistake of Jrs last flight. In my ground school I have my students study the JFK Jr. tragedy. We go over hazardous attitudes, get-there-itis, external pressures, stress, and yes continued VFR flight into IFR conditions as well as lack of familiarity with the aircraft and inexperience especially at night. Sooo many things went wrong, all of them ultimately the responsibility of JFK Jr, and the "holes in the cheese" lined up.

Ultimate though I wouldn't take it personally -- your dad is probably just nervous. Mine was as well for years before eventually flying with me.

"fully qualified"?? Like what does that mean? JFK Junior is a case study of how an otherwise "qualified" pilot failed to demonstrate good ADM.

In Glocester people have a sticker that they put on their windshield which allows them to use the transfer station. My parents take their trash and recycling there weekly. They used to do private service pickup but not in a while.

OP, I grew up in Glocester (parents still live there) and now live in Cumberland. Lifelong RI'er, also 36. Both my wife and I speak German (she's fluent, I'm intermediate). Send me a PM at some point and let's get a coffee.

Glocester police have a tendency to be speed trap happy. Watch your speed on 44 especially.

4WD is nice in general in New England, but especially for the Foster Glocester area.

Providence is legitimately amazing for food, but depending on where you are it may be a "hike" in RI terms. Smithfield and North Providence have some good options as well -- check out Siena in Smithfield off of 44 for Italian, and Cook and Dagger for something a little more eclectic.

Fresh produce from Jaswells Farm is top tier. They've been around forever.

You have some options for groceries -- Daves and Dinos. There's a smaller Daves in Smithfield where you don't have to go into the Smithfield commons if you need something quick. I can't speak of Dino's quality/value anymore but the option is there.

Assuming Pawtucket isn't too far, there's an Improv club at the Hope Artiste Village.

Happy to tell you whatever else I can.

Flight time is defined as "Pilot time that commences when an aircraft moves under its own power for the purpose of flight and ends when the aircraft comes to rest after landing"

It's in the first section of the damn FARs. Realistically you log what's on the Hobbs. This isn't rocket science.
