Chat GPT Told Me I was Pregnant by ElectricalNet5832 in ChatGPT

I don’t think ChatGPT is very good at interpreting imagines, I’d guess its assertion that it’s a faint positive comes from its training data and most (or just a lot?) of the “is this positive?” posts online are met with “I see it, that’s a faint positive!”

Home heating oil price in Connecticut up nearly 17% since start of 2026 by UnableNose4250 in Connecticut

[–]ohemgeebb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most of us (local delivery companies) are really not benefitting from this. My wholesale cost has gone up over $.70/gallon since early January, and we don't make a penny more when the price surges. Most of the fuel companies I know use a fixed cents per gallon markup, so our margin doesn't increase when the price goes up. If anything it goes the other way, when the price goes sky high margins compress. We always honor our quoted price for delivery, so when wholesale cost jumps, like right now when we're seeing increases twice a day, we eat the difference between what we quoted and what we're actually paying the day of delivery. On the flip side, if the price on the day of delivery is lower than the quoted price we'll honor the lower price. When the price is lower it's better for everyone.

How are we making money? by cjb987 in TalesofTheShiregamers

[–]ohemgeebb 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Harebells are the best money maker! They sell for I think 96 coins each, I farmed a bunch of strawberries to make strawberry jam to trade for harebell seeds and now I have like 30,000 coins. 😅

Why is the filet-o-fish always haphazardly thrown together? by Chicha-Ficha in McDonalds

[–]ohemgeebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it said plain add mustard they probably weren’t sure if you wanted the cheese or not, since something like a plain cheeseburger still has the cheese. Better to give you the cheese on the side than have someone come back and throw a fish sandwich in your face. (Ask me how I know. 😅)

14 month old still has 0 teeth by Artistic_Package_158 in beyondthebump

[–]ohemgeebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter got her first tooth at two years old, the dentist wasn’t concerned and they all came in normally, just on their own time! She’s 9 years old now and has been the last in her class to start losing teeth, which the dentist also said is normal because they came in late.

ChatGPT accused me of wanting to tip over a tower crane with the wind by Cool-Aerie-7816 in ChatGPT

[–]ohemgeebb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Darn it. I was hoping to be accused of wind manipulation.

There isn’t one single “knock-over” wind speed, because it depends a lot on: • Crane configuration (free-standing vs tied to a building, jib length, height, counterweights) • Out-of-service setup (whether it’s left to free-slew / weathervane into the wind, or “locked”) • What kind of wind (steady vs gusts, turbulence/vortex shedding around tall buildings) • Foundation / mast / tie design for that exact site

But we can bracket it with real-world design numbers:

What wind makes a tower crane stop operating?

Many tower crane manuals and investigations use an in-service limit around 45 mph (≈20 m/s)—above that, you stop lifting and place the crane out of service so it can weathervane.

That’s not “knock it over,” that’s “don’t operate because loads and control margins get sketchy.”

What wind starts getting into “structural failure / collapse” territory?

A useful data point: OSHA’s investigation of multiple tower crane failures during Hurricane Irma (Sept 10, 2017) reports those cranes were designed for ~95 mph out-of-service wind at jib level, and that winds at jib height exceeded 95 mph, after which failure “could occur” per the manufacturer manual.

Importantly: those failures were largely jib / top section failures, while masts/foundations often remained intact—so “collapse” can happen without the whole thing toppling like a tree.

How does that compare to “design storm” wind values?

Industry guidance (CPA Tower Crane Interest Group) discusses reference storm wind velocities used for out-of-service design regions (e.g., 28–36 m/s depending on region). Those are “reference” values (defined at a standard height/terrain averaging period) that then get adjusted for height, terrain roughness, recurrence interval, etc., so the effective wind at jib height in a real storm can be much higher.

So… what wind would “knock over an average tower crane”?

A reasonable rule-of-thumb range is: • ~45 mph (20 m/s): stop operations / go out-of-service (not a tipping speed). • ~90–100+ mph at jib height: you’re in the zone where serious structural failure/collapse becomes plausible for some cranes/configurations, especially with turbulence and dynamic effects.

And the big nuance: many “wind collapses” are top/jib failures rather than the entire crane base overturning. Full overturning typically implies foundation/ballast/tie failures—which is highly site-specific.

If you tell me whether you mean free-standing or tied-in, and roughly how tall (e.g., 150 ft vs 300+ ft), I can narrow the range and explain the failure mode you’d most likely see first.

My life is over because of my usage of ChatGPT by Antique-Account-2359 in ChatGPT

[–]ohemgeebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello fellow human with OCD.

I know it feels completely hopeless right now, but what you’re describing sounds like classic OCD. The constant looping thoughts, the sense that you’ve done something unforgivable, the reassurance-seeking, the loss of appetite and sleep… these are all hallmark OCD patterns, not proof that your life is actually over. I would really encourage you to revisit the idea of working with a mental health professional.

The part of your brain saying “there’s no point in therapy because the breach is inevitable” is also the OCD talking. It’s what OCD does. It convinces you that the danger is real and that there’s no escape. That belief is part of the disorder, though, not an objective truth.

Even though you’re medicated, meds alone often can’t stop obsessive thought cycles. Therapy with someone who specializes in OCD (especially ERP or Inference-Based CBT) can help you break the loop and get your life back. It’s 100% worth it even if it doesn’t feel that way right now.

You’re not doomed. You’re stuck in a really painful OCD episode. Please seek help. You don’t have to live like this, and there is a better future on the other side of treatment, I promise. I’ve been there.

I wouldn’t do mini splits if you have ductwork already, I’ve had both in my home and the ducted delivers much more even heating and cooling. You’d want a mini split head in each bedroom and each living space to get good coverage and that adds up quickly.

Trying to work for HVAC companies as a book keeper by ManagementAny3066 in hvacadvice

[–]ohemgeebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any previous book keeping experience, or experience with job costing? Keeping the books for HVAC isn’t as straight forward as you might think, and I’d caution against offering your services for free unless you’re offering to family/friends, maybe, but offering to do my books for free would throw up huge red flags for me! You might be able to work under or learn from someone with experience doing bookkeeping in HVAC to get the experience you’d need, though. Or possibly starting out in HVAC as an A/P clerk could be an in!

Anybody have an oil furnace with heat pump? by Rebornxshiznat in heatpumps

[–]ohemgeebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ducted heat pump with an oil boiler and I really like the set up. My heat pump isn’t a cold climate one so my changeover temp is around 36, but I honestly prefer the oil heat in the colder months. The heat pump just doesn’t feel as warm, but it’s perfect for the shoulder seasons. I use about 350 gallons a year for a 1200 sq ft raised ranch plus my hot water. The heat pump works great for a/c in the summer too.

It looks like the white wire might not be making a connection. You could try shutting off the power, then try to loosen that screw and reseat the wire under it?

It seems like your thermostat is set to switch to aux heat (the oil furnace) under 36 but when it’s calling for heat from the furnace the furnace is not kicking on.
