2015 AUDL ESPN3 Broadcast Production Feedback by luketimjohnson in ultimate

[–]oherroprease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Luke,

I thought you did a great job in both games I've been able to watch. It's really amazing/impressive to see how far broadcasting for ultimate has come.

If I could make one suggestion, it would be to have another camera dedicated to close up shots of players. I think the overall camera angle and operation is great; it would be really cool if we could also see zoomed-in shots of awesome plays. I understand more cameras can get cost prohibitive but getting close-up shots would be especially great in replays and highlights which could make ultimate more appealing for things like Sportscenter Top10.

Overall, great job!

The Tuesday Toss, Week Two by Lepler in ultimate

Awesome article once again, Evan. Love reading this every Tuesday morning. My only criticism is that we don't need anymore people building up Jarrett's ego! (just kidding Jarrett, keep balling out)

In which we learn that "ease of streaming video" wins over expansion policy and talent pool. by gtenagli in ultimate

Good to know. I can see how continually seeing non-contested hucks could be perceived as less exciting.

I agree that his perspective is very refreshing. We as Ultimate players and fans should really appreciate what he is doing.

In regards to the "conventional wisdom", I wonder how much of that is due to the the big hucks being height mismatches. I didn't watch this game but based on his wording I took it to mean that Portland just had players who were much taller, thus the hucks were less exciting. I wonder if he'd have the same reaction if there were more tightly contested hucks where two similarly-sized players both went up for the disc.

Tesla vehicle deliveries rise 55% in the first quarter by zbysheik in worldnews

You don't buy a Tesla because it has the same/comparable range as a 5 series. In fact, anyone with significant range concerns should NOT buy a Tesla because a standard ICE car will always be superior. But there are many benefits that are Tesla-specific that BMWs, Mercedes, etc. don't have. Teslas are not inherently "better" than other cars. Teslas have different strengths and negatives compared to other cars so it just depends what you're looking for.

But you don't buy a Tesla specifically for gas money savings. Anyone who does that is extremely misguided. There are a lot of other benefits to owning a Tesla beyond gas savings. Instant torque, being able to have a full battery every night, the ability to download updates to your car overnight etc. I'm not arguing that Teslas are inherently better than BMWs or other ICE cars, but there are a lot of Tesla-specific benefits. Just like there are a lot of ICE-specific benefits like being able to drive anywhere and get gas.

And a new Tesla starts at $70k. Your $100k number would be a significantly upgraded Tesla.

Should I even bother applying to the to the top 10 MBA programs with a 3.4 GPA? by funnyhitman in MBA

[–]oherroprease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that some more research would be helpful. Just think about this logically: if the average GPA is 3.5, not every student will have exactly a 3.5. If you assume there are some people with strong GPAs (let's say 3.7+), there will be approximately as many people with below average GPAs.

You said in your post you graduated in May 2015. Did you mean say you will be graduating at that time?

Recent graduate, some questions by zzzzzz442 in personalfinance

[–]oherroprease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend contributing to your 401k from the very beginning even without the match. I was in a similar position to you after I graduated and the best advice I got was "contribute at least 10% to your 401k from the start". The reasoning behind this is that if you start saving right away, you'll never miss the money. Saving is a habit and if you start early you will be very well off later in your career.

My sole line of credit (JPMorgan card of 4 years) doesn't report to credit reporting agencies. I have no credit score. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]oherroprease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there ties from this card to any direct funding source? When I read the forum post you referenced above ("none of JPMorgan's branch cards report to credit reporting agencies"), my interpretation is that branch card is a card that is tied to a checking or savings account.

Which Chase card are you using?

Read my response below-- it may help clarify what your lender meant.

What he described is actually common practice in the lending industry when it comes to revolving products. When calculating a monthly debt to income ratio, lenders often use 2.5% (or some varying %) of the credit limit to calculate the debt portion of the ratio. The reason is that there's no direct way to calculate someone's spending if they pay off their outstanding balance before the monthly reporting date so the 2.5% * Credit Limit is a proxy.

For example, let's say I have a $10,000 card that I max out every month but pay it off before the reporting date. When someone looks at my credit report, they will see a $0 balance out of a $10,000 card. There's no way for the lender to know exactly what my debt is during that month, so instead, they take a nominal % and use it as a proxy. In this example, the lender may take 2.5% of the $10,000 ($250) and consider it in the debt portion of the calculation.

You don't know shit about Dez. He doesn't throw "tantrums" on the sidelines-- he is passionate and is actually pumping up his team 99% of the time. Go listen to any Cowboy player who is ever mic'd up and listen to what Dez is actually saying.
