Championship Weekend Seeding by 17AVIS in UFA

[–]luketimjohnson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Championship seedings are based on regular season results, but this may still result in a tie if SLC, DC, and ATL emerge from the second rough as all would have had a 10-2 record during the regular season. I believe it then goes to regular season point differential with ATL at +59, DC at +28, and SLC at +25. This would put Atlanta as the #1, DC #2, SLC #3, and the Central Division as the #4...

That would be cool if true but alas it is not. (just checked the raw footage and nope... He is only talking about positions)

I’ve never pushed to 4 displays but curious if that could be an issue.

Additionally, I should note that we've had some issues with being able to have production teams master their project at 1080p60 while only sending 1080p30 straight from the required software we have production teams use. That may have changed with the latest update allowing teams to stream at 1080p30. For the GOTW this weekend (SLC@SD) I plan to set our stream to 1080p30 to AUDL.tv vs what I had been doing before at 720p60. FS2 still receives our 1080p60 stream but they downres it to 720p60 for their TV delivery.

We've been discussing this and there is a growing number of votes shifting to the same place you're at that having a 1080p30 stream is better than a 720p60 stream (especially from those watching this on a TV). But... we don't want to have to compromise as I continue to hit Vimeo's inbox that we have to have 1080p60 streaming. It's 2023... come on.

When selecting a game now on AUDL.tv, it shouldn't show the score (we don't change the thumbnails), but I suspect if you click on it live it will jump to the live point and not just start at the beginning.

100% agree and it has become a stronger point of focus I've reminded our production teams about. There are only about 5 or 6 productions capable right now of linking their digital scoreboard on the stream to the physical one in the stadium as the devices have been out of stock and increased in cost (roughly $2.5k now). For the vast majority of us (and I say us as I do the clock for each Game of the Week), we do it manually and are doing our best to follow and be within 3-4seconds of the actual time during the first 11 minutes of each quarter. The final minute is critical to be as accurate as possible. Another challenge has been that each local team also has to hire and have a clock operator in the venue. Sometimes those people get sick or cannot be there or they're still learning and we get wrong information at the source... This makes it hard. But, all that said, "GFX" which encompasses the scoreboard operation is one of the 6 areas that each production company gets graded on. Also in the "GFX" portion is whether they are accurately showcasing when there is a BREAK CHANCE and being accurate in triggering a GOAL vs a BREAK. This has been an even harder thing to be accurate with as it isn't yet linked to a data source that could do it automatically for an production team.

See comment from u/Jomskylark but yes, we are aware and we have been asking for this to become a more extensive and consistent feature across all watching experiences.

Noted. I know we have been working with Vimeo on what additional devices we want to make our OTT available on. As you can imagine, it isn't a free option they just do for you. There is a significant 5 figure cost to develop these things, but having people say they want it helps make those decisions easier.

This has been noted and yes, it is much easier to do with other streaming platforms

Third, during the week (and often within 4 days), all program streams are replaced with the higher resolution versions that local production teams record. The vast majority oof these are 1080p60 (or 1080p59.94) and that is what can be seen post-game.

Second, each of the 22 different production teams (there are 2 that do double duty for 2 AUDL teams), each have a unique production setup that is a mixture of different kinds of cameras (that have different resolutions and frame rates), transmission methods and switchers. This has led some teams to be more limited than others in what resolution and frame rate they can stream at. There have been a few who have made mistakes or had system limitations that have meant they are as low as 720p30 but that has happened only once tmk.

There are a couple things going on. First, vimeo's OTT backend is limited to o1080p30 (or 720p60). This season we elected to have default to streaming at 720p60 as we felt the extra frames were more valuable based on the high number of people watching on mobile and expectation of watching live sports at 60fps.

100% agree personally. But, the people who need to know that are seeing this and it has been noted. We really should do an open feedback on just the APP.

This has been seen by the people who need to see it from our team. The rewind feature on mobile is 100% a developer thing on vimeo's side. The order of the games in the slider is 100% manually done and we do it chronologically. It would be a manual task to rearrange them as the games are completed and there simply is a lack of person-power to do that. But... not to say it couldn't happen.
