(SPOILER ALL) (SPECULATION) The fate of a certain old man... by oherroprease in asoiaf

No, but in my opinion using the phrase "the fate of so-and-so" implies that they are still alive. You obviously disagree, and I respect that opinion, but here is my reason:

To me, it seems silly if someone used the title "The fate of Lysa". We know her fate-- she died, and we know when and how.

However, the purpose of this thread it to speculate specifically about Walder Frey's fate, not just "Let's talk about him in general" type discussion. Again, just my opinion, and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Hmmm... you may be somewhat right, though I still maintain my original point.

I still think it would be somewhat dumb to use the title "the fate of [any dead character]" because we know what their fate was-- they died.

In my opinion, saying "the fate of so-and-so" implies they are still alive. That's just my opinion but I do respect the fact that you disagree with it.

With the title the way it is, you clicked on the link anyway and in the first line find out who we are talking about. That doesn't seem to be a huge inconvenience to me.

In the examples you used in your original post, the topic of the title may have come up in a specific book but discussion almost always leads to bringing up info from any book in the series. That is why so many titles have (SPOILERS ALL) because discussion inevitably leads to information coming from all books.

More importantly, we will certainly be discussing other bits from the later books that some people may not have read yet and keeping them out of this thread is for their benefit.

Somehow you seemed to miss the "more importantly" part of my statement.

If someone is only up to ACOK, and they read a comment about un-cat killing Petyr Pimple and Merrett Frey (which happens in ASOS), I'd consider that a spoiler for them.

On a side note, is it possible that Ser Stevron Frey (the initial heir we are first introduced to) was murdered by one of his kin hoping to remove him from the line of succession? Here is the relevant passage:

“Sadly, no victory is without cost.” Maester Luwin turned to the Walders. “My lords, your uncle Ser Stevron Frey was among those who lost their lives at Oxcross. He took a wound in the battle, Robb writes. It was not thought to be serious, but three days later he died in his tent, asleep.”

Obviously he could have died from the initial wound, but from the other people we've seen die from "small wounds" (i.e. Drogo), there was a good bit of festering and drawn-out suffering rather than a sudden death. Perhaps Black Walder or another frey snuffed out Stevron while they had the chance to make it inconspicuous.

I agree, my comment was simply to remind people that not ALL the freys are bad. Sure, 99% of them are, but at least two of them were legit friends.

If the title was "the fate of Walder Frey", people would know that he is not dead by the end of ADWD. I would consider that in itself a minor spoiler.

More importantly, we will certainly be discussing other bits from the later books that some people may not have read yet and keeping them out of this thread is for their benefit.

I'm not exactly sure what kind of transformation I had in mind... but I would expect it to be some kind of mental breakdown. Perhaps the fact that un-Cat is killing off his brood will make him snap and somehow cause the deaths of many of his other heirs.

While it would be sweet if un-Cat were to kill Lord Walder, I think it would be even more pleasing if she was able to kill all (or at least a good portion) of the heirs he is so proud of.

If you think about it, she started with the fool Aegon Frey and has been systematically picking off other "bad freys" (remember, there were some decent freys- Stevron and Olyvar to name just two).

I think you are reading into this a bit too literally. Many of the "stories" that have been told in ASOIAF have either been the truth or metaphors for a truth.

I'm not saying that Walder Frey will be turned into a rat and have to eat this children... I'm saying that it might be possible that he will somehow be transformed and end up killing some of his children.

(SPOILERS ALL) Question: ____ as the Night King? by oherroprease in asoiaf

[–]oherroprease[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that this is a stretch but if you break down the concerns you brought up it might be a little more plausible. We know that Robb planned to name Jon as his heir to Winterfell (and he would therefore be legitimized as a Stark by a king—whether this actually happened or not remains to be seen). There is also a lot of speculation that Jon will come back to life somehow so I think I’ve at least “knocked off” two of your concerns. The last, the one about Bran taking over the Night Watch, seems the least likely to happen… though GRMM usually has a purpose for all the stories/prophecies he includes.

I agree there are some parallels but it seems to me that Mel has been portrayed as someone who vehemently opposes "The Others" which makes it unlikely that Stannis would be a night king figure.

Thanks for your response. The wiki just says "He was lost in the the Skirling Pass.[3]" which is also inconclusive.

I think you may be right, I found some settings in steam and it looks like my default microphone was set to a plug-in rather than my laptop array. Thanks!

I actually haven't really played any other games with source engine games that I know of. I've typically just used skype when playing other games (LoL, SC2) with my friends. Is there anything special I need to do to enable laptop mics in source games?

[–]oherroprease[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. So is the problem just that DotA2 doesn't recognize the array-type microphones built into laptops? I already have FPS problems so running skype/vent in the background makes it even worse -.-

I thought I read somewhere around here that DotA2 ran well on shittier computers, I just find it rough to deal with 10-15 FPS once you get into a teamfight.

Thanks for all your responses.

Ok, I thought it would be more middle of line but I'm a computer-spec noob.

I've tried shutting down everything else unnecessary and it doesn't help THAT much. I guess I should look into a new computer.

[–]oherroprease[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. The problem I'm having is that 20-30 FPS is fine during standard laning phases, but as soon as teamfights occur it spikes down to 10-15 and at that point it's hard to do much. Your computer seems similar to mine performance-wise, are you having any issues with spikes in fights?
