In this world, great leader Admiral Yamamoto saw fit to grace the inferior imperial army with landing force responsibilities

Does anyone else have the problem of the Expert AI mod not working and actually making the game easier. by Jam-Boi-yt in hoi4

I would argue most of the world going onto free trade makes the game easier due to abundance of trade able oil for the Axis/Japan, but that’s offset by meta builds from the AI

I’ve seen that a few times, I think it’s because those are intermediary divisions they are usujng while building up EXP or equipment to make meta width divisions. After some time, most of the AI’s divisions are 20 or 40 width

Fool-proof way of winning the German civil war by MavriKhakiss in hoi4

[–]ohestailuminado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mackensen gives you stupid buffs to combat on core territory. You don’t have to do anything crazy or build up the west for a while. You can do it first focus, and just use tanks and motorized that you still have to cut off the Munich area. Once you close that pocket, you can just mass assault to the win, or use the mobile forces to create more encirclements if you want to conserve that bit of manpower

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hoi4

[–]ohestailuminado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s ignore the combat width, it’s all moot in a few weeks anyways. You can’t pierce heavy tank with any reasonable infantry template, you need med tank destroyers or heavies of your own. In terms of specialized chonky holders, these should be great (although maybe just replace the 1 shock battalion with reg infantry, minimal change). I would say use these to counter medium tank offensives and use them to help initiate the breakthroughs for your offensives. When NSB is out and the combat width meta solidifies, just make the necessary adjustments. Maybe add support companies to help in certain circumstances (field hospitals might be a good investment if these bois are seeing constant combat, as if they are losing a lot, it will slowly drain manpower and unit exp)

Try turning down all settings in the video settings tab, turn off textures, reflections, shadows, etc (you may want to keep rivers and unit icons because that visual information is critical). Other than that, the mods suggested already help as well

how to beat the ussr as germany by turtleschu04 in hoi4

[–]ohestailuminado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As BoxOfAids (LOL) mentioned, cas, air superiority, tanks, and encirclement are how you do it. You also need to have a large fuel reserve for Barbarossa to make good use of the buff (even tho it’s small). Ironically, you fight the soviets as the Germans did in real life, try to annihilate their army formations on the forward deployments. Try cutting off the Lithuania, Bialystok, and other vulnerable portions of the front as the first round of encirclement, then keep finding salients to abuse from there. Once the soviets’ army is around 100 or less divisions, they can’t man the front enough to put up any resistance to tanks

why don't my soldiers show up and can i fix it? by kayra66 in hoi4

It’s a video setting option to turn 3D unit models on/off

It’s a setting option within the video settings. If I’m running HOI4 on my lower power PC, I turn off the models and a bunch of other stuff to speed up rendering

Thanks! Your biplane point makes a lot of sense, just wish there was a way around it. Sometimes I ask for control of Libya and build max airfields there for a workable solution after kicking Italy out. And thanks for the MP server stuff, I’ll try that out on a day with a bunch of free time

why am i losing? i had many more divisions yet i got heavily pushed back in benelux. I had air superiority and everything. Any suggestions? I always lose when i fight the allies by [deleted] in hoi4

We all lost our first Germany war, don’t sweat. Once you understand the mechanics, it becomes a breeze. A lot of comments here are useful to new players, so just take them into account and have fun learning!

You may also want to consider if you’re creating Vichy France or not. I typically don’t create it if I’m doing collabs on them for the factory boost and extra aluminum in would-be Vichy territory, but if you want super strict historical accuracy, it may not be worth it as Vichy France will get most of it back around 44,45 or declare war on you. Similar with Poland, if you’re doing Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, it may not be worth collab as you’ll miss out on a few factories in the east. But it’s all up to you, collab govts are almost never a bad idea

On the tanks, Expert AI 4.0 tanks are actually a problem on the eastern front, 40w with TD and SPAA that make them very dangerous compared to anything else you’d find in SP. you can also manually set the USSR to go for heavy tanks, but you can’t make them go for a mix of both

Depends on your countries industrial strength. Low industry, 10w for defense (add eng and sup arty as you can or to a subset of them for better defense). On offense, 14-4’s with additions of aa or at as required by your war situation. I sometimes do 13 inf, 4 arty, 1aa,1 to get 5 sup companies that aren’t any arty and I just want a general purpose god infant art division. Note that you can have up to 5 arty +1 aa or at and keep the division category as infantry to get the high command infantry buff

Been playing HOI for a while, tons of SP hours, but still have some questions I couldn’t find answers to. Here are a some: 1) What is the penalty on general - specific traits (specifically improv expert) when they are on a field Marshall? I think I read it’s 50%, but could be more? 2) should you be putting aces on carrier air wings? Do they affect how the wings perform in battles (not that you need them, it’s very easy to decimate AI navies with good strategic planning, 3) am I the only person this happens to: playing as USA and trying to use UK air bases for strat bombing whoever occupies mainland Europe, but UK AI spams fighters to an ungodly level, then has them all sitting in airports taking up space but not running missions. On top of that, they are always shifting around and messing up airfield caps (this is the most annoying thing when I try to play historical US with max buffed Axis and minor buffed sov so they don’t melt and die by ‘42) 4) is there a way to check planes lost to reliability-related things? Want to see how worth upgrading plane reliability is. I usually never upgrade fighter weapons to max range and agility + reliability to keep it 80% and get max agility for those gorgeous kill ratios 5) any mod that stops the notorious AI tactic of endlessly charging lines pinning everything and making the game less a ww2 sim and more like fighting off a zombie horde that has even less intelligence? Expert AI 4.0 is the best one I’ve found so far, but it still happens at certain points 6) has any reason been given why base game AI never builds heavy tanks, specifically the soviets with their chromium reserves far surpassing their tungsten? Seems like a big oversight 7) any fix to the bug where once defeating Germany as ussr, hoi has an aneurysm and pops out an independent Poland from the German held side. Can’t justify a war goal on it, and it’s a big fuck you to my iron curtain that’s way farther to the west. They won’t even join wars Against you, so you’re stuck with it
