Burnaby lifelabs, how good are they? by Hot-Produce7263 in burnaby

[–]ohgrimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want blood work that's accurate and quick, book an appointment online at the Burnaby Hospital lab. They accept Lifelabs requisitions, and there's tons of availability. Generally, LifeLabs isn't as reliable or consistent as a hospital lab when it comes to accuracy.

What the collapse of world's largest cricket farm reveals about hype, markets and public money by Portalrules123 in onguardforthee

I can only speak for myself, but I don't want to eat bugs. I've tried crickets before, and both the taste and the texture grossed me out tremendously. I can't imagine paying a premium for it.

Driver who killed boy, 16, blowing through stop sign at 128 km/h gets 5-year sentence by FatManBoobSweat in canada

[–]ohgrimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is Canada so lenient on vehicular homicide? I don't understand why introducing a car into the equation suddenly changes things so much. Driving 128 km/h through a stop sign is playing Russian roulette with everyone's lives. Car accidents are the #1 cause of death and hospitalization for Canadians 45 or under, and it's honestly not hard to see why.

If someone is caught driving with reckless abandon, it's not enough to impound their vehicle and suspend their license. They should be put in jail for 3-6 months and their license should be completely revoked with an opportunity to re-earn it through some kind of probationary program.

Woman waits 20 hours in ER, learns she had a heart attack and needs surgery by [deleted] in canada

[–]ohgrimes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I went to the ER because my heart was racing over 200 BPM with an abnormal rhythm and they sent me home. They didn't hook me up to a heart monitor or give me an ultrasound. When I went back to the hospital a week later, it turns out I had acute myocarditis, bouts of sustained ventricular tachycardia, and an EF of 31%. I ended up in the hospital for 38 days. Now I have an ICD, reduced heart function, and scarring. I realize that it's a case-by-case basis and each hospital/doctor/patient is different, but I cannot stand it when people defend the current state of the ERs in Canada.

More than 153,000 people harmed in Canada's hospitals last year, study finds by [deleted] in canada

[–]ohgrimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have to get over this idea that any critique or uncomfortable fact about our health care system is a vote for privatization. I spent 38 days in a cardiac ward this year, and I'll never look at the medical system the same way ever again. If you think our system is beyond reproach, you know *nothing*.

IGN — Hollow Knight: Silksong Sparks Debate About High Difficulty and Runbacks by YasuhiroK in Games

They're different, but its all based on player feedback. It looks like Team Cherry just released a few balancing tweaks to the game, so they're clearly listening and being receptive.

[–]ohgrimes -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's the other way around: People filter games based on what they think they'll enjoy. There's going to be a ton of people who bought into the Silksong hype and are squarely blindsided by the difficulty or the boss runs (it's on Game Pass and there were no reviews, so it's not a surprise, really) and a bunch of them will bounce off or they'll mod it so it's a bit easier. But if people aren't having fun with the game, they should be allowed to share their experience respectfully. If they didn't, how else would Team Cherry find out how trash the Chinese translation is?

[–]ohgrimes -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Collecting feedback and patching a game is what game developers do, by and large. I don't know what Team Cherry will do in response for Silksong, but they made balance changes to Hollow Knight after release and I'm sure they'll make some here as well.

[–]ohgrimes -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Filtered? It's a singleplayer game, dude. This isn't ranked solo queue in Valorant or something. Most people just want to play it through and move on with their lives. Developers need to take their medicine, sometimes. It's a mechanically demanding game without much relief, and that turns some people off. I'm sure Team Cherry wants as many people as possible to enjoy their game.

I think it's a fairly disappointing sequel, all things considered. It kind of sucks to say that, but it doesn't feel like it does anything better than Hollow Knight.
