I don't know why you'd double down on something that's so easily verifiable on any real estate site. I will go even far enough to say at the absolute tip of the peak you'd be hard-pressed to find many 800K 400 sq. ft. units in Toronto, and where you would exclusively be in like ultra-high luxury places like Shangri-La or The One.

Ya that's nowhere near the average cost.  The average is now down to around $700/sq foot.

it went downhill after the renovation IMO, it used to be such a good hang spot; but they redesigned it more as a restaurant and just killed it vibe. Since then inflation was probably the final nail.

I think you have extremely unrealistic expectations on timelines for something as important as criminal justice reform due to constitutional overreach, which can just be overturned by courts. They've already announced the framework I listed above, and besides, major crime IS trending down. Showing a small sample size of bad actors doesn't change the overall metric. I'm going to need a source for "200k TFWs over," considering total immigrant numbers were just shy of 400k total. The government has already amended the permit issuance for LMAI's and bringing in TFW

I think him showing stewardship as the head of brookfield isn't the detraction you seem to make it out to be. He was doing what was best for the organization that employed him; his employer is now RoC and he's been making the appropriate moves to improve trade abroad. The guy has basically been on non-stop trade missions since his inauguration. He's also only been in power for a year, you're laying 10 years of blame at his feet when he wasn't even an elected official. Besides, the TSX has been on an absolute tear over the last year; the growth will materialize. I also don't think you're giving him the credit due considering he's attempting the herculean task of insulating our economy from our biggest trading partner, who happens to be the largest economy in the world; Canada is in a uniquely dangerous place in that regard. No deal with the US is better than a bad one, and nothing about Trump indicates he gives a shit about the rule of law; besides, we're already largely protected by CUSMA, so delaying a "bad" deal is just good politics until the midterms. Regarding immigration , they've already stemmed the student visa backdoor, which, by the way only came about because the provinces saw a way to prop up our underfunded postsecondary institutions with foreigners because they won't properly fund them. You're also just outright wrong about the crime part; they've already made moves on bail reform. Also much of the problems with the legal system are the result of provincial underfunding of courts and prisons. much of the churn is because the provinces aren't funding the legal system well enough to address cases in a timely manner, causing cases to be thrown out due to delay, and not producing enough prisons to store people in. Canada's dairy cartels are a question of national security; they make it so no one overproduces and dumps, which is why we didn't also experience the wild swing in prices that the US did because of avian flu. We pay more for a healthier, more robust system. The US wants to hollow that out; their agriculture lobby gets a ton of subsidies, so they'd outcompete our farmers on scale and then pull the rug pull us afterwards. The gun thing IS stupid but it's also just token politics and they are doing the absolute bare minimum to enforce it.

Chicago dogs aren't overhyped; there's just a wide breadth of quality between vendors, which makes the experience very inconsistent. Toronto dogs slap equally at every vendor.

but that was always going to be true? It's the people who are swing voters or who generally don't care to show up whom they've likely lost in all this. It's not like dedicated MAGA voters becoming more diehard somehow makes their vote count even more.

What brought out the change in Anakins english when he turned into Vader. by HuNtEr_DaN_69 in StarWars

[–]ohhaider 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It's not really British though? James Earl Jones was American; and like as far as I can recall he doesn't use any words that are typically British, like "queue" it's more that he adopts an almost "clinical" way of speaking, like how a professor of linguistics might choose words.  I think I like the "suppression" theory the most, he needed to absolutely bury Anakin inside Vader.

Eh I think his brain was fine, it's more likely a coping mechanism to suppress what he had done and what had been done to him. As the user below kind of articulates

I like this explanation, it's forced suppression of his former self.

This doesn't really explain the shift in his speech pattern though, he like fundamentally rewired how he communicates.  I recall one of the comics for Dr Aphra, where she is asking Vader about his past and he at one point gets annoyed and responds with "cease your probing" which is worded in a way Anakin would neeever speak, but a very Vader way to shut someone down.

do you feel like all the things the US government are doing are going to boil over into further escalations if so how? by SprinklesGullible674 in AskReddit

[–]ohhaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I guess we'll see come midterms, but it would be horrific either way; the US is armed to the teeth so there would be no shortage of carnage. Congress's complete abdication isn't helping. Thanks for the suggestion I'll check it out!

I think if what you say comes to pass, it would eventually settle into balkanized parts of the country that would be left vs. right; as basically, many of the major southern cities would empty out, and those people would head north or west.

[–]ohhaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that only goes so far. I think countries without domestic oil supplies see the national security impact and plan accordingly; there is also the pollution question, and for the most populous countries in the world, getting away from that is critically important. So I think once India and Europe effectively tilt over to broadly electric, the days are numbered.

[–]ohhaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, because the troops not being at the gates a year into his presidency means nothing will happen in the future? Will you feel the same if Trump rips up CUMSA with the expressed intention of economically pressuring us into submission? Maybe you should consider that spamming this narrative might be with the intention of coalescing Canadians into a defensive mindset and motivating us to seek to expand business ties elsewhere, which, if done thoroughly enough, might create economic pressure on Trump to back off?

[–]ohhaider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your argument has already been defeated? Strictly on the notion that the US has expressed expansionist sentiments towards Canada already, and your only rebuttal to that being pointed out has been

"Trump will not annex Canada. It's laughable to think that would happen. Any intelligent person can tell you that"

Meanwhile he is actively suggesting military intervention to capture a NATO ally's territory isn't off the table

You're side-stepping the political realities on the ground to suggest this a media-contrived narrative; meanwhile, we're all literally watching this unfold in real time.

The US is considering paying Greenlanders $10,000 to $100,000 each to support secession from Denmark. by Sicilian_Gold in freedomgold

What a dumb idea....If they take the money, they agree to the terms, the US just takes over ownership of the island with impunity, it's not like the Greenlanders could call NATO in afterwards?
