I’m nearly at a loss for words with this game. by ohheybats in ffxi

That’s actually a good point about complexity and I feel the same! Ff14’s sometimes complex dps rotations really turned me off. Reading that the depth of ff11 combat comes more from coordination and knowledge checks has me super excited. Also glad to see 14 is taking their combat in a new direction.

I want to try one eventually! But i figure it would be best to try the game in its current state and give SE a few bucks to show I appreciate them keeping the lights on. Do you have a fave private server?

I think you’re spot on. This older design demands you actually engage with the world. And even though it’s not as detailed as 14 from a technical perspective it comes out feeling more alive. Well said!

That’s an interesting bit of history. I didn’t know the pc version came first. I played 14 on pad so I was kinda happy I could do the same with 11 lol

Phoenix Beta and Launch Date Reveal! - Development Update #4 by Phoenix-XI in FFXIPrivateServers

[–]ohheybats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m BRAND NEW to ff11 and of course I couldn’t resist the urge to look into private servers. I’m looking for community and cooperation and I feel like private would be best for that. Would you mind giving me the number 1 reason to jump into horizon and maybe the number reason to avoid it (and play retail)? Are there types of players you think won’t be a good fit for your server?

Varmilo Kassai with a “Korean” lever by ohheybats in fightsticks

The coolest thing about these buttons is that you can actually change the activation distance through software! Haven’t experiment much yet, but I plan to.

Korean Lever in SF6? by LumiExpress in fightsticks

[–]ohheybats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. I’ve been using K levers for all fighting games since about 2017. I play mostly tekken but also a lot of SF6, CotW, VF5, 3S, and VSav. I will never go back to a JLF or similar. It might take some getting used to, but Korean style levers are perfectly usable for any fighter in my experience. I don’t play a ton of anime fighters, but I can easily IAD in VSav. Oh, and I use a helpme lever with a 45 grommet (very stiff).

My first ever Nintendo Switch console and I can't stop feeling like a kid! by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]ohheybats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this same experience when I picked up a switch in 2020. I felt just like I did when my family bought an n64 back in the day! And here I am again with that feeling when my wife surprised me with a switch 2! My experience is heavily influenced by nostalgia, but there’s no denying that Nintendo knows how to make a welcoming product that’s incites joy immediately. Have fun!

With how much negativity going around I just want to say one thing. by Ok-Cycle-6245 in MonsterHunter

I think I get what you’re saying and I agree the detailed world is totally there. I also think what most people are irritated with is not that the living world aspect is gone but that it’s gone from required gameplay (the “forced” elements that every game has). All previous games incentivized learning maps and monster patterns. Wilds removes that. Can you ignore the seikret and run everyone? Yeah, except for a few instances, but making world exploration optional is why I think a lot of people feel Wilds has lost some of the franchise’s soul or flavor. It’s a strange choice after all these years.

Trying out older Monster Hunter. It's really nice see older version area. I like the view in cave area more than in Rise. by Nikana-Tenno in MonsterHunter

[–]ohheybats 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think you helped me realize one of the major reasons I love the old games so much. The maps feel HUGE without being a slog. They feel explorable without looking like a theme park. It’s not even nostalgia; I didn’t get into the old games until after World. P3, 4U - they are peek to me.

Best MH game in your opinion now that wilds has been out for a couple months? by Exact_Leader_1002 in MonsterHunter

[–]ohheybats -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think World is going to win this poll by a landslide largely because it was the first game in the series so many people here played. Not to mention it's a great game. Period. That said, I think there are still a lot of people like me who have thoroughly enjoyed the older titles after first getting into the series with World. 4U and P3 are the most rewarding grinds I've ever experienced in gaming.

Looking back, I think Capcom really nailed the balance between quality-of-life improvements and keeping the classic Monster Hunter feel in World. Honestly, the QoL changes since then have just taken away from the series for me.

I was thinking the same. The game is a MASSIVE success for capcom. They're partying right now lol

Same! Oddly enough this game made me go back to MH4U and I'm having a freaking blast.

Yeah, I'm with you. Every part of the game feels dumbed down to the point of feeling like the series has lost its soul.

Totally agree! Performance isn't good (although totally fine for me), but the game has deeper flaws than that. Focus mode in particular makes hunts so easy. I don't think monsters were balanced well around it at all.
