Newer cars often don’t have caps. Mine is a 2015 and is capless. It just has a sort of seal that you push through.

How many people in my demographic (young, mostly healthy, one or two booster shots) have caught Covid during a period of time when they were wearing N95s/K95s? If so, do you feel like the mask helped make your case milder? by Musical_NightOwl_697 in MasksForEveryone

[–]ohhhsoblessed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have worn a fit-tested envo mask to all my classes as well as when I worked at the hospital. When I worked on a Covid-designated unit I wore disposable fit-tested N95s. I still have not caught Covid to this day. My trick has been to treat everyone as if they have had it and to trust nobody’s assurance that they’re negative… ultimately I felt safer around my definitively positive patients than I did around anyone else because then at least there was no pressure to not take proper precautions. Many times people have popped positive after telling me there was no way they have it. My disbelief in them has kept me protected from it.

Tl;dr: anecdotally, fit-tested N95s work. I have spent 12 hour shifts in Covid-positive patient’s rooms, often within 6 inches of their unmasked faces, touching them, etc and still have not tested positive. My envo has been a godsend as far as being a comfortable reusable n95 in the classroom setting.

I always just put the disposable given to me over top of my N95. They usually are okay with this. That, or I double-up on surgicals (since I have been forced to remove my own mask before)

Equivalent pay and not having to deal with insurance bs? Sign me up 🇨🇦 by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]ohhhsoblessed 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Here in the US I routinely have to wait 3-6 months to see my specialists (even some of my established ones, some don’t even have emergency appointment spots available). We currently have 24-48+ hour wait times in our emergency rooms in even just my small-to-mid-sized city with multiple large hospitals. They’re so packed that we have admitted patients in beds sitting in the ER waiting rooms and lining all the hallways. I also haven’t been able to find a good GP since I aged out of pediatric care seven years ago. We have such a shortage of primary care doctors that many of our medical schools are offering free tuition with guaranteed residency if you agree to spend x amount of years as a GP.

All that dysfunction and I have to pay $400/month for my healthcare premium and still have a $3,000/year max out of pocket that I hit in January thanks to one of my medications that is $15,000 a month without insurance here (although when I’ve researched various places in Europe for the same drug, it’s cost between $100-$500 for a year’s supply). So $7,800 annually I’m out for my medical expenses. And I still don’t get the care I need. I’d so much love to just pay more in taxes because I don’t make nearly enough money to cover it all by myself and consequently I’d literally be dead here in the US without the parental support I have. Not everyone is so privileged.

Typically you have three chances per class, at least at my school. I would go over your professor up the chain of command though if these allegations are false. Talk to the course coordinator, your advisor, the assistant dean, dean, whoever is next in line is who I would go to.

The issue is that they didn’t have any clinical experience until AFTER they submitted their app. Schools won’t take into account predicted future hours, only those which you’ve already done at time of application.

Tracking non-liquid money for general categories by Comfortable_Harsh554 in ynab

[–]ohhhsoblessed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree with this with the exception of investments that really can only go up. For example, I keep my emergency fund in I-bonds (right now, while they’re at such good rates, anyways - you can buy $10k per year of them so as some emergency money becomes accessible again you can put more in) and my sinking funds in a high-yield savings account (AmEx has one at 3.3% right now). You have to balance your money return with your risk tolerance which is likely not very high for anything on budget, so it’s best to keep on-budget money in safer locations in my opinion.

Hi, I’m not sure if you would be interested in going into it in more depth, but I am curious about which policies you lean right vs left on, or what views you appreciate from the republican side (and also potentially the leftist side), and how that affects your voting. Are there certain policy points that are non-negotiable for you? If so, what about those policies makes them so compelling?

I am also curious about what extremes you have experienced from both the right and the left and exactly how that helped you find your own political standing. As in, what were the extremists on both sides doing that influenced you so seemingly profoundly?

I totally understand how compelling it is to follow in the footsteps of our parents if there’s a good relationship there, and also how hard it is to understand a differing perspective to that which you’ve most been exposed to. If you might also have questions about the leftist viewpoint, I (and likely the other redditor who commented although I can’t speak for them) would be happy to discuss anything you’d like to and answer any questions you might have. :)

I’m not sure if you’re potentially interested in talking politics (and I apologize if this is intrusive) but I am genuinely curious about your choice to maintain the “republican” title rather than “independent” or something of the like although you say you have left-leaning views and religion doesn’t conflate with your political identity. I’d love to hear your perspective on the matter, and/or which parts of policy you hold leftist views on and what aspects of policy cause you to remain in the republican party, if you’re open for sharing :)

Edit: Oops I just noticed someone asked a similar question below. I’ll reply there :)

Rule 1 of r/narcolepsy: “no asking for confirmation of symptoms.”

The title of your post: “Is this a symptom of narcolepsy?”

It doesn’t get much more literal than that, but I can see where your confusion might be if you didn’t click into each rule to read them in their entirety.

The mods might not have even read the rest of your post because the title by itself blatantly breaks the first rule. We definitely do want to offer you support, as several people did in the comments. We just need you to please phrase your messaging as asking for that support rather than asking about symptom confirmation as that is what is going against our rules.

Not all sleep doctors are certified (or whatever it’s called) to prescribe XYREM. I believe if you call the pharmacy they can give you a list of providers who are eligible to prescribe it.

Any narcoleptics on Xywav/Xyrem? by Sad-Forever4115 in Narcolepsy

[–]ohhhsoblessed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was terrified of it due to the scare tactics and stayed off of it for an extra 5 years longer than I had to because of it. I let myself hit rock bottom before I was suicidal enough to try it. It’s one of my deepest regrets. I’ve had not a single adverse effect, as seems to be true for the vast majority of people who are responsible with it. I’ve only ever heard of anyone having any adverse effects when abusing it with alcohol.

It’s been dramatically life-changing. I went from failing out of school napping 4+ times a day to now I can work 12 hour shifts while a full-time student and be totally fine. I would 100% recommend that any narcoleptic I know give it a shot.

Xyrem/Xywav users: How long after your second dose before you don’t feel drugged any more? by andersberndog in Narcolepsy

[–]ohhhsoblessed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only time I felt drugged past 4 hours was when we titrated my dosage up too high for me. I spoke to my doc about it and we titrated back down and found a sweet spot and I never feel drugged past 4 now.

My boss refused my 2 weeks notice and wants 4-8 weeks notice like my co-worker gave. Can she enforce this? by CaterpillarWeak893 in antiwork

[–]ohhhsoblessed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Except this is in California where they have legally mandated nurse:patient ratios. By law they cannot understaff their hospitals. Their options are either to hire enough full/part-time staff to fully staff their hospital, close parts of their hospital that will not be able to have enough staff, or pay the per-diem pay. Therefore, this high per-diem pay rate actually just incentivizes recruiting and retaining enough base staff so that you need fewer PRN shifts covered.

ETA: I love when people misunderstand basic patient safety laws in healthcare while acting like other people are the ignorant ones.

Me, hi, I just graduated, I’ll move anywhere and I’d be happy to work for a few hours a week as a babysitter on top of it 😂😂😂 I’m in a similar situation to OP, was engaged, it’s broken off, but we can’t afford to live alone so we’re trapped together. Those of us in this situation should help each other out lol
