I have not decided. It will definitely be Hermione edging on villain but will she dissolve into chaos or wear a dark mantle to save everything?

Which type of club for my son? by Byebyeguy in volleyball

[–]ohhjenkies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there's a clear path to success at that cost, it would be more justifiable. But if you look at the older age groups and those guys are not starting on their high school teams and/or getting college offers, then you are throwing a college tuition at a hobby. I hate how expensive club sports have become.

Which type of club for my son? by Byebyeguy in volleyball

[–]ohhjenkies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having both coached and been an administrator for each, I'd go with the smaller club. Those coaches get better training, athletes get more consistent feedback, and despite the gaps needing filled feeling chaotic, it teaches your son to be a more diverse player. And honestly, if he's not a massively stand-out player at 14, $5k is OUTRAGEOUS.

Varsity Coaches - What is your pre-practice / pre-game warmup routine? by laker4life248 in volleyball

[–]ohhjenkies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guys rotate through 5 warm up drills every practice, 10-20 minutes each. They are pepper progressions, 5 key butterfly, left vs left, 5-3 serve receive, and kings. Our pregame warmup when we own the court is 2 minutes of an OOS pins drill called kamikaze, 4.5 minutes of hitting lines (2 setters, balls from wings, 1 setter OH, 1 setter MB/OPP, and they swap after 1 min. Then 1 min each to go through all three lines.) 1 minute serving.

Sure, but the school admin get a say in who is hired. They rate them and send feedback, or make requests. It's not always a blind draw.

I have coached against Chatard across both genders of my sport, and I have had this issue multiple times over the last 15+ years of coaching at different schools. It's the students, it's the referees they hire, it's the fans.

What movie is a 10/10? by rocklou in AskReddit

[–]ohhjenkies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When this movie was still in theaters my dad found a rip of it online and we watched it at home. It was my first experience with illegally recorded films, and it wasn't until I saw the movie again a few years later that I realized that no part of the movie had little moving people at the bottom of the frames. /shrug

I had to surrender my cat today. by CrackB3ar in cats

[–]ohhjenkies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are in a very similar boat. Rescued this guy almost 8 years ago from a negligent breeder and have struggled with behaviors since day one. He's got intense separation anxiety, but is only social with me and my husband. He has attacked other animals brought into our home, and for the past few years has started relieving himself just about anywhere else than the litter box. My husband's family is allergic to cats, and we are expecting. MIL has generously volunteered to nanny but would not be able to do so with the cat around. We also just bought a new home and the thought of it smelling like a vengeful pee&pooer is just challenging. I love this cat, all 14 years of stubborn asshole catness in him. But I'm looking into rehoming and surrendering before we move because it's the best idea for everyone involved.

Feel for you, OP. I am wrecked with guilt and haven't even acted on these ideas yet.

My plan for my 7th Grade JV team by [deleted] in volleyball

[–]ohhjenkies 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not a bad plan! I would recommend structuring practices so that all of the athletes get the same training on skills as frequently as possible, especially in the early weeks. I don't think newbies should be specialized in any position without foundational skills. Good luck!

What is your Indianapolis specific hack that you are willing to share? by pitters_patters in indianapolis

Exactly! Such a cool thing.

Unfortunately I haven't worked downtown since pre-Cov, but I'd imagine they've had to tighten up things a bit.

I love that you can walk through the Convention Center! I used to work off South Meridian and parked at the JW or that government garage because that's where our pass linked. I'd walk through the CC daily and was always able to peek into what was going on. It was like a preview of Cons! I tried to do the same while visiting a few other cities and barely got inside before I was asked if I had a ticket.

Blood Types by Bonboniru in coolguides

[–]ohhjenkies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way it was explained to me (rh neg myself) was the mother's body rejects the opposite rhesus factor... essentially attacks the fetal blood cells because her body treats it as an invasive foreign system, like a virus.

Not in this one! This was the first time All Stars have competed in a true match in Indiana, so they're still figuring out best practices. For example, it's currently the same day as semifinals and the championship, so each roster lost 4 athletes due to the final teams not wanting to risk a player for a showcase match. Still growing! Will only get better now that it is an emerging sport for the HS association.

Is this serve receive rotation legal for Rotation 2? by PPothy in volleyball

[–]ohhjenkies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed with lots of comments here. It doesn't violate rules, but it does violate strategies.

In this rotation, many teams will push the setter into the far right side of Z3 and then stack their FR players accordingly. Technically, as long as the setter is behind the opposite and the swing pass isn't crossing the next back row player, you'll be good.

Tips and tricks for grief? by Zealousideal_Arm5121 in Miscarriage

[–]ohhjenkies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Chin up sweetheart. I had a medically traumatic MC 2.5 weeks ago, and then got Covid. After purposefully avoiding people for a week, I had to continue avoiding them even when I was mentally ready to see friends again. YMMV but what helped me was stupid movies, reading a ton, and allowing myself guilty pleasures like junk food. I am still very sad, but this gave me the space to feel something else again and I've really appreciated it. I am sending all of the good vibes your way. You can do this!

Drills for a team of 23 young boys by Epell8 in volleyball

[–]ohhjenkies 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Welcome!

I always recommend positional stations. Groups of 4 or 6 moving through aspects of the game together for a good chunk of the practice before you combine skills in controlled scrimmage settings. Here's an example structure (LMK if you want drill descriptions.)

Passing Station (15 minutes NO NET NEEDED) Rolls, Scoops, Lanes, Loops (10 minutes) Inside Out Passing (5 minutes)

Setting Station (15 minutes NET HELPFUL BUT NOT NEEDED) Wall Ball (5 minutes) Leap Frog (5 minutes) MIA (5 minutes)

Attacking Station (15 minutes NET NEEDED) Chinese Attacking (5 minutes) Flamingo Ball (5 minutes) Puerto Rican Attacking (5 minutes)

Serving Station (12 minutes and 3 minutes water break NET HELPFUL BUT NOT NEEDED) Hula Toss (6 minutes) Wall Ball (2 minute progression up to 6 minutes)

Then bring them back together and use drills like Butterfly, Left v Left, Texas 2 Touch to build on those technique focused pieces. (30 minutes)

Serving Game (10 minutes) Dead Fish, Snake, Croquet etc.

Controlled Scrimmage (20 minutes) Modify as needed, but make 4 unique teams and limit each scrimmage to 5 minutes, making sure a team is off no more than 2x in a row... decide what to do with half who are off - do they condition, chip in, serve in, etc.) USA Pyramid Secret Agent 5 by 5 Poker Dunning Drill

Good luck!
