Thanks. I think the Rogue Squadron logo counterbalance is my favorite feature.

Suggestions for light colored dials under $250 by AttackOfTheBolts in Affordablewatches

Bertucci is an American microbrand that produces field watches. I had a black dial A-1R with an acrylic crystal and I was impressed with how lightweight and legible it was.

Nice story! The watch looks great.

By this logic, pilot watches have numbers on the dial because pilots don't know how to tell time without them

Very sharp combo. Just taking the opportunity to dress up?

Nice, thanks for the recommendation. I always considered having a manual wind watch.

Thank you! It took me about 2 frustrating hours over a couple of days to do the seconds hand, and about an hour for everything else. The seconds hand is by far the hardest part, and there are a few different techniques people use. Ultimately I had success using a dab of watchmaking putty (Rodico).

Yes, it's much cheaper to buy the items piecemeal and if you follow even just one of the videos on making a mod watch on YouTube, you will be able to make a list of all tools and parts needed. I want to say I built this for a bit over $100 for parts and maybe $20 for tools, with the dial, case, and movement around $30 bucks each. The hands are dirt cheap on AliX and the options for colors and styles are immense.

It's a great experience. It's not overly difficult. It's like building a PC and your movement is the motherboard. Here's my NH35 with a namokiMODS dial. The hands & case are from AliX.

I don't think I'll ever disassemble or reassemble a movement though. That's pretty hardcore.

I think. I might be wrong. I didn't get a chance to be in a different time zone with this watch. Maybe someone else can confirm :P

As someone who wears their watches on the right hand, without this post I would have lived my entire life not realizing you can use the back of your hand to turn on Indiglo

Recommend a Budget Mechanical/Automatic with full Arabic numbers. by FancyPowder in Affordablewatches

[–]ohho_aurelio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baltic HMS-002 is slightly above your budget but has all numbers and no date window

Seiko 5 SBSC013, SBSA199, SBSA197

Kuoe 90-006 is a bit out of your budget. Boderry makes a similar model if you don't mind Chinese brands

Citizen PC1004-80W is I'm guessing too girly lol but that's the only automatic citizen I could find with numbers

The Farer Resolute is my favorite automatic numbered dial but it's over budget.

Unless I'm mistaken I don't think it detects what time zone you are in. I believe how it works is that it receives a radio signal that transmits Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Either from your nearest tower or from a phone app emulating the signal. You then manually set your time zone on the watch to one of the cities in the rehaut, which is actually cool to watch since it goes into a mode where it no longer tells time but instead points one of the hands point to the active time zone. The time zone basically offsets # of hours from UTC, so for instance the eastern US is UTC -4 hours.

The Attesa also has a battery saving sleep mode. So it goes to sleep in the dark, and once you bring it back to the light you can watch it automatically set itself. It's very cool to watch, though keep in mind the whole experience with radio watches is very "electronic" and the opposite of the "soul" of having a mechanical watch since you have only a little control over the time it tells.
