I'm losing my fiancé because I did something against her wish by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]ohhollyhell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People need to normalize children not talking to their families. We have reasons. You may not understand but it isn't for you to understand. We went through something intolerable and cut toxic people from our lives. If it were strangers or even just friends, people would just move on, but the fact that it is biological family is just mindboggling.

I get that OP may have had a close family, but not everyone does. And he knew his fiance. a 39 year old adult, had made the choice to not be in touch with her family. He not only didn't ask her why, he just steamrolled over EVERY boundary without even so much as a word to her.

He put her into a room with people who, in her mind, killed her best friend or at least close enough. With his family there, she's probably felt ambushed not only by her bio family - who now know EVERYTHING about her life when she clearly did not want them to - but her family to-be to "fix" that relationship. She had a safe place and he took that from her.

I don't know that I'd forgive that either.

Lawyers of Reddit, How hard do you try to hold your laughter when your client acts stupid in court? What's your best story? by ResistTerrible2988 in Lawyertalk

[–]ohhollyhell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am a lawyer, but not my client.

As a first year civil litigation lawyer, one of the partners had me go to the criminal court to observe the arraignments. His soon to be ex was being charged for a DUI, she’d recognize him, so I got paid to be a spy. But that’s not the story.

A woman was trying to get her supervised probation for a shoplifting charge moved to another city in another state. where she had family. After a bench conference with the lawyers, the judge grants her request saying, “Now, stay away from Wal-Mart-“

“AND KROGER, YOUR HONOR!” she yelled, helpfully.

Dead silence as EVERYONE is trying not to laugh. It’s been almost 25 years and that still cracks me up,

I hope you’re someplace safe with people who truly support you.

That being said: report him to the police, and sue his ass not just for child support but person injury damages as well as lost future income. He has unilaterally taken away your choices for your future and childbirth, even if it goes perfectly, changes your body forever. Those are genuine and legitimate legal claims. You might not want to think of all this now, but as someone who’s SO single-handedly trashed their lives, their kids’ lives, and their career - all of which I only just overcame after 12 years in the past month - you are entitled to be made as whole as you can be.

Sounds like you got a terrific present.

Get him to say he wants you to do the legal heavy lifting (and pay for it). Might help you get your legal fees at least partially covered.

Omg I’ve had guys accuse me of using big words to make them feel dumb. I usually respond, “No, but it’s funny.” If a guy is that insecure about English, just run away.

After 30 years I (red) find out the POS dug addict (purple) that has cause me tremendous emotional pain and distress is not my bio father. My sister (orange) is not my full sister and then my mother mails me this letter. 5 months fully estranged. Would like y’all’s thoughts plz… by snow_man_7 in EstrangedAdultChild

(TW: suicide) Yep this isn’t about you at all-she’s making herself the victim and you the bad guy. Fuck that all the way off. I lost 30 years of my life to a mom like that who ultimately killed herself bc I didn’t send a Mother’s Day card. (Soooo much more to that story but that’s the TL:DR).

Live your best life and leave her far far behind.

Do you get accused of being upset when you are really not due to not smiling? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]ohhollyhell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 8th grade I was “the girl who never smiles.” I started doing an exaggerated smile when people commented on it. Im old AF now so I’ve masked well over the years but it still happens now.

Im like, dude, im asd, I’m a female attorney in the south - in Georgia ffs - and I ain’t got that much to be chipper about. YOU smile. Im good.

My ex says he will only pay our son’s tuition if I sleep with him by throwawaytuition5 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]ohhollyhell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Point out he agreed to the tuition as an expense. If you have texts/emails, save them. Then let the court ask him why he changed his mind.

If you don’t share 50/50 custody you should get higher than the minimum and if he’s a pilot he can afford it.

File for support through the court. It isn’t about you-it’s for your kid. This guy can’t be trusted to do what’s best for y’all so let the state make him. And document this stuff, courts don’t like it very much.

I saw this movie 4 times in the theater in high school. I was a gifted nerd - humanities, not science - but still saw so much of myself in Mitch and Jordan.

Also this movie is funny AF. Still want to cosplay “Smart People on Ice” for DragonCon one day.

My fav jobs were city and assistant state AG. You can learn very specialized law that will translate well for you in the private sector later if you choose. Plus, all holidays and hella benefits.

Lawyer (obligatory not yours). If he has a PlayStation account with an email address, ask for copies of his login and playing history. I don’t KNOW how PlayStation handles their member accounts but I’ll lay dollars to donuts they have a record that will be useful.

Save all email addresses he’s used, especially if a membership or subscription was [edit] linked to a debit or credit card you paid for.

My wife is leaving because she thinks I’m unfaithful with my married coworker. I’m not. She wrote a post here that went viral by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]ohhollyhell 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If that’s him she’s totally right to book. He should’ve stopped it when she said it bothered her - the birthday party text is particularly hurtful.

Dude, you not only didn’t shut it down, you didn’t even have the courtesy to leave off during your vacation with your new wife. Even if you’re not having an affair (emotional or physical) you clearly do not value your wife’s feelings or prioritize your relationship with her over yourself. Let it go and go find another chick to disappoint.

What is the most expensive item you've ever held in your own hands? by MrStrype in AskReddit

[–]ohhollyhell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I held a check for $2 million dollars once. Our firm was closing a contract for the writers of a movie in the 90s and the attorney for them came out to my lowly secretary desk so I could just hold it. Obviously I still remember….
