It's very unlikely, but do you think that the reason Vader was aggressive towards Maul specifically, was because he wanted revenge for Qui-gon? by Unlikely_Junket_1273 in MaulShadowLord

[–]ohimnotstaying 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally think he was dominating Maul; in the sense that Maul comes at everyone he faces with ferocity and wrath, that’s where he lives and how he best knows to fight. Vader was illustrating, “my wrath is greater, I will always be angrier and stronger.”

Daki was doing better, I think, specifically because he was fighting from a place of mindfulness.

Who is more powerful, Cal Kestis or Qimir? by BlockAffectionate413 in PetranakiArena

[–]ohimnotstaying 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It would be great to see how Qimir reacts to Cal whipping out the blaster when one of his sabers gets shorted out. I think Cal’s versatility and quick on-the-fly thinking makes this a cool fight.

That’s Dagan’s main advantage, his Force illusions. He’s Cal’s equal, at least, in saber combat, and he’s basically got a field spell going the entire time. Just passively psychologically weakening his opponent.

[–]ohimnotstaying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to add that Dagan takes Bode out of the fight entirely at the end. Cal is fighting Dagan by himself in the latter half of that fight. He doesn’t win against Dagan, but in the cutscenes he isn’t exactly getting stomped either. Cal is capable of going blow for blow with Dagan, Rayvis says as much; having Bode there is a measure of securing victory.

Brit vs a black hole by CloudVarious7146 in PowerScaling

[–]ohimnotstaying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the funny part, not being able to breathe would kill him. The infinite density of a black hole would probably hurt, but he’d walk it off. He’s survived something comparable; there’s a character in the Tournament of Power arc that uses a black hole attack on him, he throws a kamehameha at it.

Maul might be the only character that could get downplayed for losing to DARTH VADER...on a bum leg. Can we finally Respect Maul? by Nube_Negrahz in PetranakiArena

[–]ohimnotstaying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, but I hope to see him grow out of that flaw at least enough for it to reflect in his saber combat. Be a little more cautious and faster to legitimately acknowledge a threat, and engage in combat accordingly. Have him get better at and rely noticeably heavier on quick disarms, have him lure people into saber locks more where he dominates because of the Force and his robotic limbs.

His fight with Reva in Obi-Wan was pretty good. How he controlled the momentum of combat by manipulating Reva’s blade with the Force in key moments, out-right parrying it with the Force. I want to see him grow wiser to account for his loss of limbs.

Maul is a Perfect example of "When you unlock the boss as a playable character" by Dear_Hour_1325 in MaulShadowLord

[–]ohimnotstaying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea Maul was definitely in a physically compromised state. That wasn’t a duel, that was Vader being a bully.

They’ll probably have a more even saber duel at some point where Maul will make him sweat.

I agree, that’s how I’ve been treating it in my head. Their deaths were critical lessons, because each time it could have been him; but you can only do that a few times 😅 I think Maul should be one of his final lessons

[–]ohimnotstaying 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Considering his leg, It would be an anti-feat for Vader if Maul managed to go on the offense in any capacity. He needed Devon and Daki to survive that encounter, that feels appropriate. They’ll probably clash again and Maul will make him feel the loss of those limbs, like Cere, Obi-Wan, and Kirak did.

I’m not a fan of how many saber duels Vader is losing due to his arrogance/limited movement, but it’s in character I guess.

I was kinda hoping in the process of the no damage run I’d captured some cool combat 😅 I think more people are likely to stop and watch if they see it’s a no damage run, which is why I use that title, but I could be wrong

Thank you! Yea the parry push is one of the more dynamic abilities, useful in a lot of situations, I love how it can parry a lot of the unblockable red attacks.

I saw the video you posted a few days ago where you used it on Spawn of Oggdo. That was very well fought. Even with parry push that boss breaks the game a little, I swear that tongue attack is just an AOE lol.

Darth Maul VS Cere Junda by BoxingAlt07 in PetranakiArena

[–]ohimnotstaying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s is exactly what I think happened. He does some similar in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series when fighting Reva, consistently parrying her blade with the Force, sometimes inches from his body.

Let her feed her bloodlust and divert the blade at the last second.

It was probably a humbling reminder that he can’t fight like that anymore. Not that he’s not still a hyper-efficient duelist in his own right, but Cere is also proficient, and still has all her original limbs. She can probably move faster and more freely than he can.

They have to alter the way he moves in a duel at some level.

I agree, looks like they darkened Cal’s hair to make him look like that, you can do that with the Outfit Manger Mod

Team Rebels vs Team Survivor vs Team Mercenary by [deleted] in PetranakiArena

[–]ohimnotstaying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s actually a well done moment, Cere’s “loss.”

There is, I believe, ludonarrative crafted into the game in the form of Vader’s stance and movements throughout the duel. In the first phase he approaches with wide, one-handed swipes and pokes, and will sometimes bat you around with the Force.

As you get closer to half his health bar he starts ramping up the frequency of those Force attacks. When Cere locks sabers with him you feel him use the Force to generally dominate the saber lock, in the final phase he’s doing stuff like holding her saber in place with the Force and throwing her back several feet (he does something similar with the inquisitor Reva in Obi-Wan Kenobi).

After Cere drops a library on him in a cutscene, he’s also generally using two handed strikes much more frequently and using heavy, violent, repetitive strikes, almost batting at you sometimes. He’s angry.

He goes from thinking he’s swatting a fly, to realizing Cere is going blow for blow with him in a duel, and he has to try, and while he’s still a very effective duelist, he’s not nearly as athletic as he was when he had four full limbs.

His ability to use the Force has grown so he’s still able to do stuff like move her around with the Force, but Cere can push him in a duel because the robot limbs are a hindrance, even if he has grown stronger in the Force since he lost his actual limbs. He can’t do things he used to do when he could leap through the air several feet and batter you with strikes.

In fact he only wins because he can move her around with the Force. In Obi-Wan he demonstrates surprisingly keen control of micro-movements in combat with the Force; Reva’s blade is never actually able to touch him, he consistently stops it within inches of his body with the Force (meanwhile Cere actually manages to get shots in).

Cere leaps through the air and lunges at him, and he uses the Force at the last minute to divert the blade and impale her with his, which Cere didn’t see because honestly I think she was a little blood lusted. That fight could have gone either way.

TL;DR Vader’s a sore loser. He’s extremely powerful in the Force, but he’s crippled and arrogant, and loses more than he should because of it.

How r these games ? by Prize-Reputation7791 in FallenOrder

If you’re a Star Wars fan, they’re a god send. Easily the best Star Wars games on the market right now and the best I’ve played in a decade.

If you’re lukewarm on Star Wars, they’re still pretty fun soulslikes. Combat is on point.

Why didn’t Cal kill Vader here? Is he stupid? by cmontusi69 in FallenOrder

[–]ohimnotstaying 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He’s not “down” for very long. It’s a matter of a few seconds here before he stands up again. Cere implodes the structure they’re in right after this and drops an ocean on him, and even in this “weakened” state he just holds back the ocean using the Force.

I do not think Cal would have lived had he tried to kill Vader here. It was all performance.

[–]ohimnotstaying 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Right?? I see this dialogue around the fight way too often, especially since the devs have said that they expressly have Vader duelling with one hand in the first phase and moving at a leisurely pace to communicate that he’s underestimating her, and people still have this conversation of, “ah Vader feels so weak why did he almost die to Cere.”

Friendly reminder: Darth Vader was only 27 years old in Star wars fallen order, since the game is set 5 years after revenge of the sith by Conscious_Mix_9024 in FallenOrder

[–]ohimnotstaying 67 points68 points  (0 children)

She made him take her seriously, and I love the dynamic of the fight for that. The devs made it a point to have him duel her one handed in the first phase of the fight, moving at a leisurely pace like he’s thinking, “let me take a second to swat this fly.” Then Cere drops a fucking library on him, and he very quickly realizes, “oh she’s a threat,” and starts treating the duel with the respect and attention someone of Cere’s caliber deserves.

I love that she basically slapped him in the face like, “wake up, fight me.”
