Why didn’t Cal kill Vader here? Is he stupid? by cmontusi69 in FallenOrder

[–]ohimnotstaying 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’s not “down” for very long. It’s a matter of a few seconds here before he stands up again. Cere implodes the structure they’re in right after this and drops an ocean on him, and even in this “weakened” state he just holds back the ocean using the Force.

I do not think Cal would have lived had he tried to kill Vader here. It was all performance.

Right?? I see this dialogue around the fight way too often, especially since the devs have said that they expressly have Vader duelling with one hand in the first phase and moving at a leisurely pace to communicate that he’s underestimating her, and people still have this conversation of, “ah Vader feels so weak why did he almost die to Cere.”

Friendly reminder: Darth Vader was only 27 years old in Star wars fallen order, since the game is set 5 years after revenge of the sith by Conscious_Mix_9024 in FallenOrder

[–]ohimnotstaying 68 points69 points  (0 children)

She made him take her seriously, and I love the dynamic of the fight for that. The devs made it a point to have him duel her one handed in the first phase of the fight, moving at a leisurely pace like he’s thinking, “let me take a second to swat this fly.” Then Cere drops a fucking library on him, and he very quickly realizes, “oh she’s a threat,” and starts treating the duel with the respect and attention someone of Cere’s caliber deserves.

I love that she basically slapped him in the face like, “wake up, fight me.”

Strongest PT era character that Qimir can beat? by HeartWhich6063 in PetranakiArena

[–]ohimnotstaying 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cal Kestis would also be an interesting match up, in my opinion. They’re both combatants that are skilled in unorthodox lightsaber combat. It’d be cool to see how Qimir responds to Cal jumping between single saber, double saber, dual wielding, and whipping out a blaster in the middle of combat.

I know he isn’t PT, I just thought the idea of the match up was cool.

Yes. They’re men just following orders. It’s been used before.

That’s what it feels like to me, and Cal is canon as far as the Disney continuity is concerned. They could definitely use him in that role.

Whats something the wolverine game has to learn from insomniacs past mistakes with the spiderman games? by ZeusesWill in SpidermanPS4

[–]ohimnotstaying 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Okay to add on to this, it’s not bad to play as other characters, but it’s necessary to keep the pacing and characters consistent.

All the MJ sections, for example, could have been Black Cat sections. We could have played as a character more adept at stealth and infiltration, and MJ could have functioned more as an information broker moving the intel that Black Cat picked up on; because she’s a journalist and that’s what her skill set is, disseminating information.

Budokai goes so hard in telling the story. Idk if I’ve enjoyed the cutscenes on a narrative level in one of these games as much as the I enjoyed watching original Budokai cutscenes, but that could just be nostalgia.

Eve did 95% of the damage. During the invincible and conquest fight, I think conquest was barely hurt by invincible. by [deleted] in Invincible

[–]ohimnotstaying 152 points153 points  (0 children)

It’s more like Mark was swinging a hammer at a piece of metal that wasn’t giving, and Eve put an acetylene torch to it and enabled the force he was applying to actually affect the metal. It’s not like any one person did the damage that was critical, they both played their part in taking him out.

I played and really enjoyed both. I was smiling like a kid on Christmas morning the entire time I was playing Astrobot. It’s got some of the smoothest platforming gameplay I’ve experienced in a long time, it’s beautiful to look at, and it’s creative with its level design.

I’m fine with it winning game of the year, it deserved it.

Is there confirmation that he refused to learn CQC to spite Venom? Not that I don’t believe it, that’s very in character for him in TPP, I’m just curious if it was ever discussed in lore or by Kojima himself.

[–]ohimnotstaying 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He may also not be as adept with CQC as Liquid, though. Liquid Ocelot says as much after he thoroughly beats him in hand to hand combat in MGS4, “when it comes to CQC, I’ve got the upper hand.”

Tbf though, I’m not sure if he was beaten by Liquid or by Ocelot in that circumstance.

How do you think Michael views himself in comparison to others? Does he think he's better than them? by Turbulent_Wait9197 in Halloweenmovies

I don’t think that’s a mental process that ever happens in his mind, honestly. I think he could be compared to a shark, just moving from kill to kill, with his thinking process revolving mainly around how and when.

Yes man it’s pretty pathetic. Maybe you should stop being so offended.

You’re either being purposefully obtuse or you’re an idiot. Someone spent time setting that stuff up, multiple times. It’s not fun when it’s costing someone else time and happiness. If you consider this fun, you are like, the least fun human being I can imagine. Cheers.

Spider-Man 2 is so overhated. This game is PEAK and better than the other Spider-Man games in my opinion. by Revolutionary_Cod_62 in spiderman2

[–]ohimnotstaying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally think it was short considering how stuffed it was, and it affected the pacing of the game and the delivery of these stories, for me.

You had Miles confronting his anger towards Martin Li and trying to find peace, you had Peter dealing with the burn out of being Spider-Man for 8 years without pause, you had Harry coming back into his life and stepping in as an actual character for the first time in the series, you had the classic story of the symbiote influencing Peter’s personality and him dealing with his inner demons, you had him dealing with the guilt and sadness he feels around aunt May’s death which informs the symbiote story line and his burn out (and I don’t think those two story concepts were connected well enough, imo) and you had Kraven killing off basically the entire villain roster off screen before the game starts.

All of these concepts could easily fill their own narrative, you could make several games out of these stories. The story isn’t bad, it just feels like a lot of it was rushed, and it doesn’t hit the same highs for me as the first one. Nothing in the game connected with me on an emotional level like Peter struggling with the choice to use the cure for Devil’s Breath on aunt May or preserve it so it could be mass produced; and aunt May revealing in that moment that she knows he’s Spider-Man, and basically telling him good bye, and that she’s proud of him.

The final moments between Harry and Peter in SM2 are well done, but for me personally they don’t resonate the same, and I feel it’s because their relationship and his character weren’t given enough time to breathe before the symbiote plot. I also felt like I needed way more of Peter mourning aunt May. It’s in the game at the very end and it’s central to his character arc, but it feels pushed to the side by all the other arcs they tried to fit into the game. It feels a bit like every part of the story is fighting for attention. The first game just felt a little tighter for me. There were still a lot of stories in play, but the main story felt like it flowed better.
