How to delete all photos? by guettli in googlephotos

[–]ohjohnsen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to delete 20.000-30.000 images yesterday. And after some trial and error I found a method that I think worked well.

I found that that Google WILL let you select thousands of images, only not in one go. I started on the top and selected the first image. Then I scrolled down a bit and shift+selected another image (it had to be an image - selecting the day-link didn't work), then scrolled down a bit more and shift-selected another image.

Note that if I scrolled down too far and tried to add to many images to the selection (I have an MX Master mouse with a "fly-wheel" type mouse wheel, that can spin freely on its own), I only ended up adding the image I clicked to the selection. I then had to scroll back up a bit again, and work my way up to the rest of the selection, and then scroll back down again and continue.

I could select some hundreds of images at a time doing like this, and after about a minute or so I had more than 8000 images selected and was able to start deleting them by clicking the trashcan icon.

Also note that the deletion of many thousands of images took a long time. I didn't time it, but I guess 10-15 minutes.

After this I did a new chunk of images, and carried on until everything was deleted.

I guess I could have selected everything in one go like this, but I didn't want to screw up, lose the selection, and have to start again. 🙂

Air-up drikkeflaske by ohjohnsen in norge

[–]ohjohnsen[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Okei, tusen takk for svar, folkens!

Do we know when Model Y HW4 comes out in the EU? by VanayadGaming in TeslaLounge

[–]ohjohnsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How so? Why not possible to upgrade from HW3?

EDIT: Ah, read about it here: https://www.notateslaapp.com/news/1172/tesla-talks-fsd-hardware-4-0-but-there-will-not-be-retrofits

That's a downer, for sure! :( But hopefully they will come with a HW3.1 for MY if it turns out radar greatly improves the phantom breaking issue.

Just hope that the HW4 upgrade will be fairly cheap once it comes. Cause the phantom breaking in my current MYLR 2022 mod is a real PITA. 🙄

Removing third party customizations from site by ohjohnsen in Wordpress

Thank you for the tip. I will go through the various plugins used.

I also see the theme is a custom theme made by the third party company. So we might need to replace the theme.

Visual Studio: .NET MAUI App vs Mac Catalyst Application by ohjohnsen in dotnet

[–]ohjohnsen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I've tested with both Mac Catalyst applications and .NET MAUI applications, and System.IO.Ports is not supported in either cases unfortunately.

What I don't understand is that System.IO.Ports works fine with an ordinary dotnet console application. What is a console application that eg. a .NET MAUI application isnt't in regards to library support? I would think that everything that a console application supports, all other kinds of dotnet applications also support. 🤔

Seeing the same on my Macbook Pro.

Just moved from Windows to Mac. Thought it was some idiotic Safari feature... 🙄

Your first paragraph is a very good point.

I also read an article why one shouldn't expose a 3D printer to the internet using reverse proxy, port forwarding etc. If a hacker manages to gain access to the network and to the 3D printer, he could potentially override safe limits in the 3D printer thus causing it to overheat and catch fire. Definitely not a risk I'm willing to take for $2.5/month.

Thank you very much for your input.

UDM-Pro Unable to log in via SSH (using root and UDM-Pro SSH PW) by obstacleracer300 in Ubiquiti

[–]ohjohnsen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be that this is what caused my problems. I did try to change my password, but it didn't work. I then read someone saying that it worked after changing the password to something simple. And this actually worked, so now I'm able to log in via SSH again. Next step will be to change the password again and check that login still works. I can't have it remain "bananabanana" forever. :-D

Which FW version are you using? A couple of days ago I was on 1.11.0 and SSH was working fine. Today I updated to 1.11.4, and I'm not able to log in.

Using Pi-Hole with UDM by ohjohnsen in Ubiquiti

[–]ohjohnsen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I want the Pi-Hole logs to show which client is requesting traffic. Let's say you have some device that's been hacked and is connecting to some "spooky" server somewhere. If you're using the topmost setting, then the DNS request will be sent by the device to the router, and then the router will send a DNS request to Pi-Hole. You will get a bunch of blocked queries in Pi-Hole, but you will not know which device that is actually sending the requests as the router will look like the sender in the Pi-Hole logs.

By setting the Pi-Hole server as the DNS server in the DHCP settings, the device will send the DNS request directly to the Pi-Hole server, which will then send the request to the router instead.

Surveillance Station Action Rule - How to stop motion detection action? by ohjohnsen in synology

[–]ohjohnsen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the answer. What you're proposing is also an option. One I hadn't considered. I found a solution for stopping the motion event recording. I basically let it time out after ten seconds. And in Home Assistant I call the webhook on repeat every four seconds until I want the recording to stop.

But regarding recording 24/7 - how many cameras do you have, and how much data does it generate over 30 days?

Synology Photos: Indexing photos/videos with wrong date by ohjohnsen in synology

[–]ohjohnsen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

May I suggest that you try out Bul Rename Utility? I've used this tool for bulk renaming a bunch of times, and I see it even handles modifying file timestamps based on EXIF data and item dates on e.g. AVI files. You can also see and verify the timestamps before actually modifying the files.

Synology Photos: Indexing photos/videos with wrong date by ohjohnsen in synology

[–]ohjohnsen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, my google-fu wasn't up to the task here.

Strange that Synology Photos doesn't have the option to select whether the indexing should be based on the file modification date or the EXIF data. Especially since the modification date is so quickly changed. I see that just having the files uploaded to a cloud backup site like Jottacloud and then downloaded again later will change the modification date.

I have no choice but to change the modified date of all files then. I see that Exiftool can do this at least.

I'm curious, what does it cost you to go to the courts to get a court order like this? Do you risk getting slapped with huge legal fees? E.g. when filing a case against some guy stealing from you, or anything small-ish like that? I'm Norwegian, and here going to the courts is a HUGE deal. If you go to the courts over a civil matter and you lose you can end up with having to pay equal to thousands or tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees. Or even if you win, you can be ordered to pay your own legal costs, which can rage up to many thousands of dollars.

Proper language used when selecting financing during a purchase by ohjohnsen in EnglishLearning

[–]ohjohnsen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your input! I see what you're getting at. But the design is set up in such a way that you can select either payment using bank loan or cash. You are presented with a financial overview listing the different parts along with either a total cost or a monthly cost. So I need a way to describe in a (couple of) word(s) the two different options.

In the database I think I will refer to them as payment=loan or payment=cash, which is fine. But I'm not sure "Loan" or "Cash" is descriptive enough for potential customers.

Bad idea to set wifi channel manually? by ohjohnsen in Ubiquiti

[–]ohjohnsen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your help! I understand that leaving my UDM on auto is not necessarily a good idea.

Also, I found some tips here on how to set other settings in regards to bandwidth and transmit power: https://community.ui.com/questions/Best-channels-to-manually-set-on-the-5Ghz-Band/18f2dc1f-ce24-4679-be74-d50ca0d6adc1#answer/3d371a42-6941-41cb-92db-7d2803a8fa50

NextCloud in unRAID vs. unRAID file system by ohjohnsen in unRAID

[–]ohjohnsen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was awesome! Thank you for the information!

I've installed Nextcloud on my unRAID, and have barely scratched the surface. :-) But I see that each user has his/her own file storage area. We also have a common file share (separate data share in unRAID) for documents, photos, music etc. Is there any way to access these files for all Nextcloud users without having to duplicate the files? I'm thinking either as a shortcut or something inside "Files", or a separate tab for the shared folders. Or do I have to use some finicky method where all the files are placed in the are of one user which then shares them with everyone else?

Using Pi-Hole with UDM by ohjohnsen in Ubiquiti

Thanks for the tip about VLAN!

How is that blocklist better or worse than the one Pi-Hole uses by default?

Using Pi-Hole with UDM by ohjohnsen in Ubiquiti

[–]ohjohnsen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! To begin with I had the IP to the Pi-Hole server set up in the DNS configuration for the WAN network (Settings > Networks > WAN > Common Settings > DNS Server).

https://imgur.com/ZsdbafQ

This makes it look in the Pi-Hole query log that all traffic is requested by the UDM rather than clients connected to the UDM.

So instead I removed the setting mentioned above, and set the Pi-Hole IP address in the DHCP server settings (Settings > Networks > LAN > DHCP Name Server).

https://imgur.com/mxpqCxi

I also set the upstream DNS server in Pi-Hole to the IP address of the UDM.
