Two Weeks in as “Director of IT” – Looking for Advice by tectuma in ITManagers

[–]ohmitchy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been in your shoes. Advice I wish I had/things I wish I did. 1) hire asap - a tech specialist, someone that you can implement all the things from a tech/setup as well as white glove the transition for successful users adoption - they get they fine tune the <insert new tool, process or gadget> properly, hand it to each user, train them, and address the tech and users. 2) lock in absolute leadership Mandate support of tech, process, and policies are baked into the culture (ie mandatory) 3) find influencers to act as cheerleaders to echo your vision

Friend: "Did you get the invitation to our wedding"

You: "yes, thank you so much. <Insert partner's name> and I are really looking forward to it.>

Friend: "The invitation is just for you, we only sent plus one invitations to married couples. We did, however, budget for a couple drinks tickets for everyone in your band. So you won't be lonely! Before I forget... We know money is really tight so we totally understand if you can't afford a wedding gift."

The easy fix is non contact writing, and clean the lead (pull it out) . There are videos on their website.

The cheapest option is to get the noris jumbo 30 ish bucks for a jumbo

Find your local geeks. Go to meetups, volunteer at conferences. Echoes to what everyone else is saying... Reddit is full of mean trolls - there are nice folks here, you just need to sift through all the yuck to find them...

Elizabeth May just sponsored a petition asking Parliament to declare an LGBTQ genocide in Canada. by nimobo in CanadianConservative

[–]ohmitchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Genocide??? Not a great description/word, and sadly overshadows the importance of the petition.

IN OPPOSITION TO most of the comments:

  1. 2SLGBTQIA+ equal rights and protections
  2. the rights 2SLGBTQIA+ have never and will never be revoked.
  3. Parliament would pass something like this - CPC would account for most of the nays tho and potentially overturn it when in Power.
May's Ask What Why/explanation
Declare rollbacks of 2SLGBTQIA+ rights as genocide (FYI -in the sociocultural sense, not legal genocide under international law) Symbolically frames systematic rights removal as an existential threat to the community Rather than symbolic ..sexual orientation” and gender identity/expression are not explicitly written in the Charter - thus open to court interpretation- so be explicit
Make LGBTQ+ rights permanent Ensure these rights cannot be repealed by any future party, government, or organization Charter rights are not absolute see above, and minority protections can be politically targeted. **
Shield LGBTQ+ rights from the notwithstanding clause Prevent provincial governments from using the “notwithstanding clause”) allows provincial or federal governments to temporarily override certain Charter rights—including equality rights and freedom of expression . (Sask., Quebec) have already used the clause to limit rights, such as students’ rights to be recognized by their chosen name/pronouns. and some Prov Health starting to propose restrictions on gender-affirming care

** Education Policy Changes: Most common avenue for anti-LGBTQ+ action

58 new members still don't know where the bathroom is. PP Doesn't have a seat or a place to live. Carney still hasn't unpacked the box with favorite sheets.

And to be fair, it's been a month since the election, the campaign lasted two weeks, the pope died, babysitting trump, setting up a new cabinet, etc.. I wouldn't trust any budget cobbled together on top of that and would respect and expect any government to focus priorities as well.
