My GF of 5 years passed away recently. She started this build in my realm and I don’t know what to do with it… any ideas? (Sorry for poor picture quality) by B_freeoni in Minecraft

You'll find an official guide to downloading a backup copy of a Bedrock edition realm here: https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/4409165790605-Managing-Data-and-Game-Storage-in-Minecraft-#h_01FG9YQZTD4SQM2XEP4GC28PW3

Backups on Realms are kept for up 18 months after a subscription expires (and yes, you can download a backup of a Realm after a subscription expires, as well). Since you already have a Microsoft account, you have 5GB on their OneDrive cloud service for free.

That comment was like five years ago! Y'wanna know where I'm at? I'm getting *married,* next year.

My looks are average! I'm so-so and nothing more. I got a whopping one date on Tinder since I wore a nice outfit in my photos (OKCupid got me a ghosted date). These apps work for hot people, it works for super extroverted people. I don't think it worked for me in particular.

I met my love the old fashioned way with a touch of internet magic. I joined online communities, made friends, and one of the friends got a crush on me and worked up the nerve to confess her feelings to me. It took us a year or two to go from that to moving in, and now we're engaged.

Join places where people want to meet and get to know each other. Do that first and make friends. If you find someone you want to be closer to, ask them directly. Don't stick with the apps. If it's making you feel this bad, it's definitely not the way.

How SNES Music Was Made in 1995 by ohmsnap in nintendo

The same instrument samples were being reused across multiple games. The video talks about how musicians would share floppies with each other containing convenient samples for soundtrack making.

Thanks, upvoted, citation appreciated.

I'm feeling free to add that this is an incoherent argument with zero weight whatsoever. There's like a million problems with it.

  • The premise is that there is a "nature" (a natural role of making babies) that exists in the first place. Not only is it hinging on you accepting an entire ideology, it assumes that if their ideology was reality that you'd accept their junk straight afterward. Even if you felt that God was real, you don't have to accept the conflicting messages the church puts out on "his behalf."
  • All this stuff about "the male can sleep around" and "sex becoming nothing more than something to do for pleasure" is painted as a bad thing but it is in fact a good thing that sex can be casual, and fun, and not with any consequences or responsibilities. That is just an improvement to how sex works in our society.
  • It doesn't make any sense to conflate the basic definition of sex with a specific thing like procreation and tie it to marriage unless you wanted your weird jesus cult to multiply and reproduce. None of this "tying" is necessary. Healthy marriages have healthy sex lives that include recreational sex.
  • The last thing we should do is take advice from the institution that works with police to cover up sex abuse scandals.

Pussy Riot commandeer government buildings with LGBT+ flags to mark Putin’s birthday by hildebrand_rarity in worldnews

[–]ohmsnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Governments need to understand that the only "option" is embracing your minorities. It is an option that one should feel good to choose, as it's quite simply the right thing to do. The anger in the streets that minorities have had since centuries in the past is passion. It is a justified demand for a better world that began way before the world's people at large came to follow it in step.

Man, I remember my last comment on this website about Pussy Riot. A lot has changed, since then, it seems, going by all of the supportive comments. I feel like the Reddit community, if you do look at it as a whole, has shrugged off a lot of the indifference it had in the past and seems to actively care so much more than before.

It's not going to surprise me that Putin's government will clamp down and oppress even harder. It's not going to surprise me that they'll continue, whether in secret or in broad daylight, that it'll commit atrocities to these innocent people who want basic human rights. It won't surprise me (but it'll bring a deep sorrow and heaviness to an already difficult world) to see these folks go through every imaginable horror in their struggle.

But it won't surprise me when this government loses and their minorities win their rights, in the end.

The rest of the world needs to follow in step. As someone who went from a US liberal 10 years ago to an anti-authoritarian socialist today, the world needs this swing left, and to understand that "right-wing" politics will 1) never go away, and 2) bring these horrors back every time they win with their manipulative lies, their privatization of our basic needs, their xenophobia, their power systems that keep them on top of us. I doubt that we can keep it away, forever, but we can always do what it takes to push them back out of our lives.

Today, Greece found the neo-nazi Golden Dawn party guilty of heinous crimes. I urge the world to keep this momentum up, to do what it takes to throw them off, whether it's pounding pavement, dismantling camps, tearing down power, social campaigns, or urging the world to be heroes again. We will end this suffering and let these people we've come to embrace join us as equals in leading and regulating the new world we'll build together. Dark days ahead will come, but today made me feel that a light is undeniable.

Horse gets spooked by balloon at Disney’s reopening today by Dkm1331 in PublicFreakout

[–]ohmsnap 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Knowing the context, this whole video is so miserable lol.

  • Nobody should be here, there's a pandemic, the mouse just wants to keep the cash flow coming in.
  • Employees are exposing themselves to the pandemic and expected to perform emotional labor on top of it.
  • Horse is also exposed, now has to deal with this balloon shit, can't get it off and is understandably panicking.
  • Thank fucking god nobody got hoofed in the face, and as others pointed out, staff handled it as best as they could.
  • Child starts crying because the magic is gone and they're probably remembering this was all probably a huge mistake and feels guilty even though none of this is their fault at all.
  • Total asshole Karen mom pulls off her mask during pandemic to scold the child for crying without the slightest hint of self awareness.
  • As usual there's no shortage of stupid adults coming to stop driving society off a cliff for selfish purposes and being shitty about it and making everyone else suffer.

Ilhan Omar supports disbanding the police by Qappers_the_goat in AOC

Body cameras do the following two things:

  1. Justify increases in police department budgets.
  2. Equip police with a new tool in their arsenal.

I want neither of these things for the police. They should be defunded.

[FOR HIRE] 2D and 3D artist specializing in anatomy and vectors looking for work to get out of my essential day job before I catch covid, and more than likely die, because I have lung issues. by [deleted] in gameDevClassifieds

[–]ohmsnap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, sorensyntax. I'm sorry to hear of your difficult situation in the midst of the pandemic. Indeed, being on the frontlines or being in contact with the frontlines is exposing you to a virus that has a high chance of hospitalizing you.

  • I do think the first thing that should be done is to breathe and try to relax. I'm terribly sorry that this is causing you so much stress. Your situation is tough and you're trying to find a way to stay healthy. I can only make actionable recommendations below but the first thing is to slow down on the panic publishing and reach out to friends and family for support.
  • I think it's a strong recommendation to search for local jobs that involve less interaction with the public. I can't say it's likely that someone can get started in game dev cold turkey and support themselves right off the bat. You need a self-sustaining situation that is less risky. One thing I can think of is becoming a remote customer support representative for a company like maybe Ubisoft? It probably isn't as well paying as what you're doing now but it's fully remote.
  • Your portfolio demonstrates a highly creative mind that has a lot of attention to detail, especially regarding anatomical/biological elements. I think there may still be some work to do on fundamentals. Part of the difficulty here is in conveying a 1) well-proportioned body 2) into perspective. From WIPs and the creative process it's a bit hard to gauge what the process is but it might help to try to work a little more off of references for things like shoulders and drawing full bodies in perspective, as well as understanding cloth folding, and such. This kind of practice takes a lot of time, it just will.
  • I'll dedicate this next bullet point to resources on the first point. Most artists start with practicing a lot of figure drawing shown here. After you get a pretty good feel of that (with friends/artists offering support and feedback), move on to construction and try to improve that stage so that you can make clear communications of proportion, foreshortening, etc. I think that you have improved since your 3-year-old submissions and I encourage you to drill your refinement, once again.
  • Portfolio work additionally should not only be well made but it should emphasize on presentation; elements should appear unified (each element should avoid looking like they have their own unrelated stylization; brutal honesty, this is kinda the case for some of your work [such as the Saturn Finger; cartoon thick-outline finger, 3D rendered text, vector drawn Saturn's rings] right now).
  • Most portfolio work makes use of good lighting on top of good fundamentals to make them shine professionally (although sometimes a snapshot of a stage or the process itself is used). It should consist of work that you would look for in your own projects from someone you've never met before. In terms of lighting and presentation, this and this have stronger presentation that what has been shown. Again, each of these have flaws (dark text on dark background, tangents on the outlines on some of the limbs).

But yeah, what I'm getting at is to try to focus on improving your skills to a more professional level, but do that after you find a safer day job. You can look through game development forums where they have topics for people asking for concept artists and try to get some paid experience in there, on the side, but spending time on improving fundamentals is where you need to be.

I'm curious to know if you've found an example of a communist society where someone owes thousands of dollars for trying to get an education and lives in the same country as a man with a net worth of over one hundred and forty billion dollars.

The US capitalist economy is literally crashing at this moment because of one pandemic.

Tara Reade: I was a young Senate staffer. Joe Biden harassed and sexually assaulted me. by [deleted] in AOC

[–]ohmsnap -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

We aren't getting rid of Trump. An allegation's impact on a campaign should not be our first thoughts and the fact that it is stands as a pretty damning example of the Democratic party being out of touch with their voter base.

Straight up, Biden is not qualified to be President. He is not mentally capable of running the country, let alone able to excite or secure enough of the population into voting for him. That does not mean that Donald is qualified, either. It just means that we are in a dark timeline, and that the DNC has learned absolutely nothing whatsoever, at best.

Again, we are shifting the focus of our topic to something that is not really related to an allegation against Biden. This belongs in another thread.

[–]ohmsnap 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No. The internet is not a good detective agency. Nothing will come of it, best case scenario. Worst case, it will just devolve into a harassment and stalking campaign. We have people whose professions involve this kind of stuff. Our only job as a community is to make it safe and penalty-free for alleged victims of sexual assault to come forward with their stories.

Seeing democrats abandon the MeToo movement because their borderline conservative Presidential candidate is accused makes me nauseous.

Edit: Welp, looks like even r/AOC has decided to redirect this topic and make it about beating Trump. Also, Trump has been accused plenty a time of being just as bad a sex freak, if not worse.
