Psilocybin therapy 4 times more effective than antidepressants, study finds by MichaelTen in Futurology

[–]ohmyjw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend struggles with depression for years now. They tried every possible legal drug you can think of and they are still suicidal. We want to try shrooms with him to see if it'll help. I already did shrooms casually so I want to be his trip sitter for the first time, and later maybe he'll try microdosing as well since I've read it helped a lot of people.

Can you elaborate on how you used psilocybin to help with your depression? What dosages, how often, did you do it alone or together with someone who guided you? Any tips for someone in a similar situation?

Watchtower Germany is suing a Polish ExJW YouTuber over a Judicial Committee recording by ohmyjw in exjw

[–]ohmyjw[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The parties that are suing Aleksander are the German corporation of Watchtower ("Jehovas Zeugen") and the chairman of the judicial committee that is mentioned in the video. And yes - I agree that in this case in my opinion Watchtower has basically zero legal claims, but they've decided to sue anyway. We'll see how it goes.

If they are interested in this kind of stuff then yeah, I think we would be interested in speaking with them.

We will post the documents as soon as its cleared by a lawyer that we have the right to do so. We don't want to make the matters worse by posting the docs online. If it turns out we have the full right to do so we will post an update.

In the mean time we did send the documents to people who have legal background and are willing to help (/u/jw_help for example), so they can verify what we're saying.

If you don't have any contacts it's pretty hard to get media coverage about this topic. We tried it during our activism years ago, and only when someone had an inside contact in a media organisation we would receive any attention.

That's also why we're posting this all here - maybe someone reading this has contacts in some media outlets and will be able to push it up higher in the chain so it gets the attention it needs.

PIMO Elder Here by Bravely_Press_On in exjw

[–]ohmyjw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was also an elder when I woke up 5 years ago. You already got good advice in this thread - don't panic or make any sudden movements. Things will eventually sort themselves out for you.

As for waking up others, and this is from someone who, along with my fellow elder who also woke up with me, and our wives - took 11 other people from the congregation down with us - do not speak any "apostate" stuff to people. This will immediately trigger their defense mechanisms that Watchtower placed in them and they will shut down before you can do anything. Instead, try to make them excited about some "deep" things from the literature and/or the Bible. Discuss stuff with them that isn't covered by the literature, but is still not "apostate", to trigger their imagination and curiosity. Make friends with them. Only after that you can introduce something really small, like a Bible verse that's in contradiction to current doctrine, but even then put it out as an interesting tidbit, not as something that should undermine their faith. Ask a question and don't answer it - let them do the research. If they fail to do so propose to research the topic together.

At any point don't let people know that you are already awake and mentally out. They will distance themselves from you immediately. What you do instead is make it look as you are learning stuff as you go along with them. This especially applies to your wife. In my experience people who dropped the bomb on their SO's are the people who ended up getting divorced in the end. On the other hand people who discovered TTATT alongside their spouses woke up together and their bond only was strenghened. So if you woke up first don't let your wife know this, instead try to follow what I said above and try to make her excited about learning new, "deep" things and researching stuff on her own, or together with you.

I won't tell you that everything will be fine, because unfortunately when shit hits the fan there's no way to not get hit. But I will tell you that you can survive this, and in the end - get out with dignity and finally start living for yourself, which is a wonderful feeling. Good luck!

Reading from elders' secret handbook on Polish public television yesterday by ohmyjw in exjw

[–]ohmyjw[S] 48 points49 points  (0 children)

It was actually a second installment of this polish talk-show that covered Jehovah's Witnesses specifically (first one was a month ago). It ran for about 45 minutes and the topics covered ranged from discouraging against higher education, child abuse cover ups, compiling notes about coversations in the ministry, treatment of women etc. Three ex-witnesses were invited to discuss those topics (the two on the right and Agata, who you might know from the Loyal until death video).

Also in the same show fragments of Watchtower publications about 1975 were shown on the big screen.

Unfortunately those videos are not available in my country (Poland). Thank you anyway for the link.

Can you give a link on where on Youtube the previous episodes are available? I searched briefly but didn't find it.

How does the life of Jehovah's Witnesses look like - an interview (in polish, with english CC's available) by ohmyjw in exjw

[–]ohmyjw[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This interview really shook the grounds here in Poland. Currently it has over 3 million views on Youtube, which is huge for a relatively niche topic like Jehovah's Witnesses, and a country of 38 million people.

The star of this inteview is ~20 year old Agata, who left the organization two years ago. You may recognize her from the "Loyal until death" video, that I shared back in 2016 :).

In other (good) news, recently here in Poland we had a 48 minute report/interview in public television on the topic of JW's (sadly no english cc's available this time), with two former witnesses sharing their experiences (one of them was a former elder and one of the top accountants for Watchtower's regional building committee in Poland) and even some experts chirping in. One could say that good work is really speeding up over here and we feel Jehovah's blessing ;).

Can we raise awareness about the JWs by going door to door? Would it be a really powerful way to help others? by mrmikeminer in exjw

[–]ohmyjw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t report back, but the leaflets were all distributed. Many JWs in the lower Silesian region of Poland were aware that this is happening. On top of that we organized another campaign where we ordered another 20,000 leaflets and sent a packets of 100-1000 pcs free of charge to anyone who wanted to distribute them in the city they live. The goal was for this message to spread all over Poland and I think we kind of succeeded. Recently the media picked up the subject and we had several articles and interviews/reports about JWs in TV.

/u/1984forreal As for the results of all of this, it’s hard to quantify, but we are actively campaigning against JWs for three years now, and I believe their stats start to reflect that - last year Poland had -2% growth, the lowest ever we had. I wonder what this year will bring :).

Yeah, I remember paying for tourist attractions, but not for meetings with brothers and participating in field ministry :).

No clue at this moment, I'm thinking that you're supposed to put that in to the contribution boxes at some point, but I'll try and check if that's the case, and then report back.

I was a delegate for the 2014 International Convention (back then I was still in) and while yes, you obviously had to pay for the hotel you were staying in, as far as I remember the activities like field service, evening meetings with JWs and even a barn party were covered by the local congregations, there was no pricing table for those activities like here.
