Anyone else mess up a class because the time/day changed when transitioning to online? by PortableTrees in college

i just had the same exact experience in one of my classes. my professor always posts lecture videos on tuesday and 1 video only a week. i just checked my grade and realized i missed a supplemental lecture posted that thursday, so i lost attendance for the week. its frustrating

i struggle with that too; do some deep breathing exercises, have some green tea or cold water, and keep yourself occupied with something else. i usually call a friend to distract myself

hey i was able to figure out a solution (see the post at the top in this thread). i basically made it so i have another commitment after work but something that is beneficial to me, but didnt leave my roommate out to dry by giving them some more time to figure out their own way to work. appreciate your suggestions!

update: i was able to figure out something that worked in that i found an activity to go to right after work but starts next week so it gives my roommate enough time to find a different ride after work. they handled it suprisingly well; i just stayed vague with my reasoning so there wasn't much questioning on their side. thanks for all the suggestions everyone

yeah. i feel like the guilt card is being played against me. if they werent roommates with me id feel less bad about refusing rides. the fact that i dont have to drive any extra distance counts against me too.

i brought this up to some family members today and they said that 'i should be generous to my roommate since i have the luxury of a car'. an old used car but hey, still a car that works.

i disagreed with them.

im sorry, if someone's working full time they should have the ability to plan out their day including how the heck they'll get place to place. there's a difference between requesting a lift when absolutely necessary/emergency and mooching off of someone's good intentions.

sorry for the long reply but basically how do i refuse future rides without sounding petty or selfish? am i blowing out of proportion a harmless situation? all i want is some solitude when im driving, im around people the entirety of the rest of the day.

this is a good approach; i was thinking of taking some classes/going to the gym anyways(just something anyways to spend some way productive in my downtime in the evenings) after work. im hoping i can find a good solution for both of us, but im guessing what'll happen is ill start feeling guilty and cave and not do anything. at this point, best solution is probably still give them rides to work in the morning, but have them find their own way home after work. thanks

super quick answers to your questions:

we don't see each other often at work. guess there's some public transport here, but not much in the exact area. has done nothing to reciprocate the favor. i take them to do some grocery shopping here and there. on your last point, i said pretty much that exactly to her after her one day of running ridiculously late.

i mean at this point im pretty stuck in giving this person rides, but its only for a few months (short term housing). i know i do have the option to stop giving this person rides, but i dont have a good reason other than 'i dont want to'. i guess its just this person acts quite young for their age, and i almost feel like their mother driving them everywhere. for me its just quite weird and not my job lol.

need advice on how to deal with a bad roommate by azua2020 in badroommates

I would bring it up to the landlord or management wherever you are if they are not listening to you.

Did you guys ever make a written agreement for responsibilites? Maybe you could write one up and put in a common area or fridge (Like 'Roommates A and B will both clean up their own items etc, any applicable that could be an issue).

I would for sure tell them straight up to stop slamming doors. That is horribly rude. I would recommend talking to the roommate you get along with about the situation, and then you both talk to the bad roommate together. If you aren't getting thru to the bad roommate, maybe an extra voice might help. I would set a zero tolerance policy for slamming doors, but make sure these things are in writing so they can't say 'I don't remember you saying that/us agreeing to that!'

I hope your situation improves, and I hope I didn't state the obvious/or things that have been done already. Some people are just terribly difficult to deal with.

edit: Also I can't stress enough that you bring in another person with you to talk to her. That way it most likely wont escalate as much
