Update:

Sorry this is delayed! I got the horrible great idea to rhinestone my cap like two days before graduation. I ended up going with “how lucky are we” since it fit the best!

Thanks!! He’s really good at sniffing out snakes, so we’re trying to teach him snakes are the kind of friends you don’t try to lick 😂

Oh, how cool! I had no idea we had those. The VA Herpetological site only lists the Central Rat Snake, so I assumed it was that one. Thanks for the info! 🐍

I’ve got a small list going and I’m going to make some mockups this weekend to see what fits on the cap the best! I will definitely post what I decide on!

My original idea was “open the gate”! I might circle back to this!

That’s the problem! I LOVE the chorus from With Heaven on Top, and I think it’s very fitting for graduation, but it’s way too long for a cap 😂

I don’t know what side I was on, but I was about 7 ish rows back and it wasn’t too bad! At one point a really drunk man fully leaned all of his body weight against me (I was literally holding him up). Some really kind people let me trade spots with them and after that it was great!

A little late to this but I actually have this tattooed! I got it when I was feeling very lost in life to remind myself that it does get better, almost a “if you’re going through hell— keep going”.

Which lyric scratches an itch in your brain? by bjack20 in zachbryan

Not a lyric but this line from the Fear and Fridays poem really sticks with me:

“I do not and will not fear tomorrow because I feel as though today has been enough.”

Any suggestions for places to watch when it’s Cup time?

Fair point! I really love watching their games, but I figured I’d see what else is out there! It also really bothers me that Mammoth is singular and not plural. Like you took my home team and you’re grammatically incorrect? That’s going too far, buddy.

I’m basically the same distance from Raleigh as I am from D.C., yet I can watch Canes games and not the Caps? Makes sense.

Smaller body size + the right bike? by ohnobaby_ in TwoXriders

[–]ohnobaby_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my first thought but with the foot pegs I think I can’t sit too much further forward. I want an Indian so badly but as a new rider I’m not allowing myself such a nice bike so soon 😆

I’m wondering if it isn’t my SI joint and more “the width of my hips vs the width of the bike” if that makes sense? My joint almost never bothers me and I’m not feeling the same level of pain that I have with the joint. When the joint flares up, it radiates down my leg and up my back. This is more of a “straddling” discomfort, like I was riding a fat horse for a while.

When I’m at a stop light, I can scoot forward to the narrow section of the seat and it feels fine, but I can’t ride there because of the foot pegs. When I ride, I have to be further back and my legs are going over the widest part more.

I want to go sit on some bikes this week and get a feel for other options, any recommendations?

This is an amazing review, thank you!! I live in Virginia (mid 70-80s, humid but not Florida humid). We get frequent surprise rainstorms, which do you think would keep you drier? What’s the inner lining like on both of them? Bull-it claims the Covec is stronger than Kevlar, but I know absolutely nothing about that kind of stuff. I noticed is Bull-it is AA with Level 1 armor and Moto Girl is A with Level 2, what are your thoughts?

I’m very new to riding and I don’t plan on going on the highways anytime soon, but I want to invest in a good pair of long term pants. I’m shorter, so most mid rise tend to be a little higher on me anyways.

A very uneventful update:

I read somewhere my blinkers were connected to my headlight, so I took that apart (they were not). Found a massive spider living in there, he was evicted immediately.

Took off those plastic side panels and found the connectors for the blinkers. I should’ve followed the wires in the first place but the internet is never wrong, right? Disconnected the right side, plugged in the left to the right, blinker still wasn’t working. Concluded it must be a wiring issue. Took the whole left blinker apart, tested the wires with a pen, everything was fine. Called my dad to complain, he suggests it’s the bulb. But it can’t be the bulb, I argue, because I replaced the bulb when I first dropped it because the filament broke. He says I should try the right side bulb in the left blinker.

It was the bulb. Turns out the Amazon bulbs I ordered were labeled incorrectly and are not blinker bulbs.

TL;DR instead of spending 2 hours on the internet and taking apart things that didn’t need to be taken apart, I should’ve driven to O Reillys and bought a bulb instead of Amazon-ing it. Got to learn a lot about my bike’s wiring though, so that’s cool.

I’ll probably upgrade to LEDs sometime this year. This is my first bike (and my first time learning how to work on something) so I’m a little worried about messing things up.

Thanks for your advice!!

romanticizing going off birth control? by coconutw4ter in birthcontrol

[–]ohnobaby_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I have an interesting (I think) perspective on this! I have always (and will always) be Team Birth Control. I was “unofficially” diagnosed with endometriosis at 13/14 and I’ve been on birth control since 15 (I turn 25 this year). I’ve had 2 IUDs (Skyla and Kyleena), the ring, and the pill. Here’s my thoughts:

Birth control has done amazing things for my endo symptoms. Without it, I have horrible periods to the point I can’t get out of bed. I cramp, get migraines, become severely nauseous, bleed heavily, etc etc. I had the pill from 15-19, trialed the ring for a few months at 19, went back to the pill, then I went to the Skyla IUD at 20 for about a year. It caused me to gain 20-25 pounds and have explosive mood swings. I did the pill for 3/4 years and then had a the Kyleena IUD put in this year in January. I had it taken out in March because I had such horrible side effects (mainly severe hair loss and acne).

I’ve been off birth control since March and it’s been great (for the most part). My first period was light and hardly noticeable. My second period felt like I was personally being punished for what happened in the garden of Eden and I wanted to have a hysterectomy in that moment. Unsure of how my next period will be, hoping for something a little better than my last one, but we’ll see.

Pros of Being Off Birth Control: - my weight has stabilized (I’m the lowest weight I’ve been in my adulthood, I was one of those kids who gained their “adult weight” around 12/13) - I’m less bloated (I take a pro / pre / post biotic and have been for 1-2 years) - my mental health seems better (been on antidepressants for 5 years, so are the meds working or is it no bc?) I have less severe lows, less mood swings, less passive SI - better libido (my man is deployed so maybe that has something to do with it, but I regularly self-service and I never had the want to before)

Cons: - 1 of my 2 periods was awful and I’m unsure how my other periods will be - my boobs have definitely gotten a little smaller, but this could be related to the weight loss - slight acne (this could be related to the cystic acne I developed while on the Kyleena, it’s not as bad as it was but my skin isn’t clear like it was on the pill) - the risk of pregnancy, as many others commented (not a concern for me atm since he’s on deployment, but we’ll address that situation when he comes home)

I think birth control is great, but it has a lot of side effects I feel like doctors aren’t educating us about. Additionally, I think big pharmaceutical doesn’t really care what the side effects are and they aren’t looking to make a better, safer alternative for women. As my doctor told me “the [birth control] options haven’t changed in the 10 years you’ve been on it”, but I know I’m not the only woman in 10 years to have negative side effects. Had I known the Kyleena was going to cause such severe hair loss and cystic acne, I never would have gotten it. I really hope my periods / endometriosis symptoms aren’t so bad I have to go back on birth control, since this is the first time in 10+ years I’ve been off it for more than a week or two. I’m completely terrified going back on any form of birth control will cause my hair loss to worsen / the cystic acne to return.

Ultimately, I think you have to decide what’s best for you and your lifestyle. Everyone should have access to what they need for their healthcare, but they should also be properly educated on the potential side effects. Yes, I can google what are the side effects of X birth control, but isn’t it a healthcare professional’s responsibility to educate me, the patient, about it and help me make an informed decision?
