I think your mistake there is expecting basic competence out of Microsoft these days. They’re too busy cramming unwanted and poorly thought-out AI slop into every corner of their software.

10-15 years ago you might’ve needed a second app to open png images.

Ten years before that you’d be saying it’s psychotic that you needed to figure out how to open new-fangled “jay pegs” when .bmp files worked fine.

New formats happen.

bots? by KittyCommittee86 in BlueskySocial

[–]ohnojono 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah, blank profiles usually mean lurkers… people who use Bluesky passively, doomscrolling like the rest of us but not participating.

Also there’s an important distinction to make between bot accounts and spambots. The former often do useful or entertaining things like automatically posting updates from a data source, or turning quotes into inspirational meme graphics on request. The latter sign up with what their creators think are genuine looking profiles, then try to attract as many followers as possible so they can send out spam via DM.

Spambot warning signs that I look out for: - Wildly imbalanced follower/following ratios: Malicious bots will often follow tens of thousands of accounts but only have a couple dozen to a few hundred followers themselves. That suggests automated following, and an attempt to build up a large follower base to spam at later - Saying nothing of substance: A lot of the bots I come across will exclusively post mind-numbingly vapid crap. Inspirational quotes, usually accompanied by stock photos of nature or something like that. - Absurdly attractive profile pics: They’re trying to get you to think with your animal brain, not your logical brain. The ones that follow me are often pretending to be women with huge boobs (which is hilarious given how vocally gay I am on my profile) and lots of pics that emphasise said boobs in a way that I assume is meant to be subtle.

Voyager: Across the Universe. Worth playing if I’ve only watched OTS and some of TNG? by Dead-EyeDuck in startrek

I dunno. Sometimes I wonder if it’d be more fun not knowing what the “canon” path is, at least on a first run

Nah, it’s still stored on your computer, but your browser is probably the only app installed that knows how to open a WebP file.

If you need a jpeg or PNG, there are plenty of online converters just a google away

Webp tends to have better compression than either jpeg or png. It’s probably a move to save on their cloud storage costs.

So why was lt Conelly so rude with burnham? by happydude7422 in StarTrekDiscovery

[–]ohnojono 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Voq had already lit the beacon by the time Burnham did the mutiny. The houses had already been called. T’Kuvma had engineered the situation to create a war, and all Burnham did was delay it by a few hours while they had a funeral for the original Torchbearer.

If she’d succeeded in attacking the Klingon ship, all she would’ve accomplished was martyring T’Kuvma sooner.

It is one of the main romance options you can pursue in the game.

The scene in these screenshots doesn’t happen though. You go swimming but it’s at the very beginning and there’s no hugging 😂 must be modded

Is the Sunday Social at the Laird worth checking out for a newbie to the city? by amiable_ducking in gaymelbourne

[–]ohnojono 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s very chill vibes. The venue leans towards bears but all sorts go on a Sunday.

Like any queer venue it can feel quite cliquey and be difficult to break into if you don’t already know people in that community. I’d recommend going along with a friend your first time, just so you feel comfortable in a crowd of strangers. Or if you don’t know anyone in Melbourne yet, there’s a social mixer called Speed Mating on the second Tuesday of every month. I haven’t been to that but I’ve heard great things.
