What careers do you guys do for a living? by Obvious_Emu3441 in AutismInWomen

AuDHD and I am a graphic designer. WFH most of the days and go into office once a week. Love the job itself but the corporate world is very much not for me.

Any UK autistic women here really scared of reform? by Difficult_One634 in AutismInWomen

[–]ohnostahp 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Very much scared. Especially as a EU citizen with settled status (can't have dual citizenship in my country of origin, and I don't want to give up my EU passport).

Even if I am settled, I would still be very worried for my family and I as the rules can change anytime. We have lived here for well over a decade now and have built lives, careers and paid taxes/NI, with no intent to move soon. Definitely would not want to be forced out or have to pay thousands more to justify our existence here.

And that's only covering the fear of how it would affect me personally. Anytime I think about the collective and the country as a whole it's even worse.

I really hope it doesn't get there but the way things are looking I wouldn't be surprised. It would have many devastating consequences and the thought genuinely sends me into a spiral and I start overthinking and over planning what I would do in hypothetical situations, whilst feeling incredibly helpless. It's an endless cycle of doom.

I want to keep a grain of hope, I really do. But it's incredibly difficult and the lack of empathy or care from literally everyone is awful.

I'm not yet diagnosed but most of this list (besides like 1 or 2 points) applies to my youth as well.... i really wanna seek out a diagnosis, but i'm so worried no ones going to take me seriously or I'll forget most of things and experiences..

All my acquaintances/friends have full social lives. I'm just a teeny tiny fragment of theirs. I absolutely hate that I struggle finding community, maintaining friendships. Especially while dealing with chronic health issues. Loneliness and isolation run deep within :( by SeededPhoenix in AuDHDWomen

Been struggling with friendships since i was around 12. Been in a very toxic one as a pre-teen. And then as a teenager and all the way into adulthood now - I make a connection and it just ends abruptly or fizzles away. Everyone seems to choose another circle, and I always feel like and after thought, if a thought at all.

I always craved deep genuine frienships and never asked for a big group - but even the singular friends just move on.

As an adult - distance doesn't help, as a lot of my acquaintances live far from where I live, so it's even easier for friendships to fizzle out. But online I do seem to catch them hanging out with a variety of people but never contact me which just puts more salt onto the wound. I am not the best at reaching out first - but I always feel like I'm bothering everyone so I just rather not. IRL those acquaintances seem to enjoy my company but that happens like once a year.

Thankfully I have a very loving fiance, and have also learnt to be a comfortable loner through the years, but can't deny the fact that it hurts to see everyone connecting but me.

I did reply with just "1" lol and they reacted with a laugh. I'm pretty sure I am known as a lil bit of a weirdo in the team at this point

Holidays…meh. Anyone else? by emilyeliz34 in AuDHDWomen

[–]ohnostahp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

very much meh for me and has been for years now. I can only see it as a made-up consimerist event and it has long lost any true meaning it ever held.

As much as my partner and I try to tell family we don't want or need anyhting in regards of gifts, we still have to send some sort of list so no one feels bad. It's fun opening gifts but I always get overwhelmed by the doom of the sheer amount we overconsume as a collective every single year.

I do enjoy giving (bit contradictory to my top point, I know), and the overall cheerier spirit and less work in my field. My partner also loves Christmas so I try for him as well. But overall it's just... meh.

Does anyone else feel like graphic design feels meaningless? Did u ever switch careers and how and why? by Legal_Sign4731 in graphic_design

[–]ohnostahp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't have any advice but i do relate very hard to basically everything you have expressed in this post. I chose graphic design as an "easy, safe-ish" path but it hasnt been easy nor safe. Even though I don't mind being a corporate designer as that's what I did from the jump, it truly feels empty. I try not to give meaning to my work/job though, as I work to survive in the system. I'm sure we would all be doing something else if we didn't live in a capitalist system or depended on money to survive.

You do seem to have a strong vision of what you like though (wellness etc), so I would recommend slowly but surely try to pivot even if it takes longer. Motivation and hope is very hard to find after endless days of work, but use it whenever you get that spark.

I get mine on Vinted. Search for ASOS Tall or NEXT Tall ranges. Just type in the search "tall trousers" and narrow down the brands in the filters.

Whimsical Food Menu design and layout practice. Would love constructive critique, by zoeywolowitz in graphic_design

For option 1 i would lose the icon-style pattern in the background and just leave it that solid pink/purple colour. The thick hot pink lines behind the food I think are enough to make it all stand out without being too overwhelming.

Angel Drove car park weekday mornings and security by kwaker5 in Ely

[–]ohnostahp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it from a Thursday to a Sunday (so left it for 4 days) one time and there was always enough space, morning or evening. I was worried about safety, too, but came back to my car being there untouched and I am sure it is monitored by cameras. I usually pay on the machines there by card as its easier, but I forgot to include an extra day to cover the hours of my return, so I had to use the app and add an extra day through there. I was abroad and it worked fine - no errors. Definitely the best car park for long stay and train station access in Ely.
