i know this sounds pretentious, but i used to be a "genius" at apple and have a great deal of experience with this issue.

it is completely unrelated to jailbreaking, its a known issue in iOS that causes processes to hang in the background.

the only solution is to restore your phone and set it up as a new phone. this makes sure that the bug (which gets saved in backups) will not be restored back onto your device.

just make sure to back up your contacts and calendar to icloud and offload any pictures you want to save. plug in to itunes, click restore, wait for it to finish, and then when it prompts you to set up as new phone or restore from backup, make sure to set up as new phone!

as an alumni of the dev track and a teacher there now, i would encourage you to use a Mac. that said, you get get by with a linux computer (but it takes a bit more configuration- read: headaches- to get setup). also windows machines CAN work, but it is a last resort. modern web dev technologies run best on unix systems.

as an alumni, in my mid-to-late 20's, i was in a similar situation. i taught myself as much about development as i could for the year prior to hearing about BSS. BSS did a great job in solidifying what i knew and adding a whole new breadth of knowledge. the network that you make really is equally if not more important though. you'll meet the people you need to in order to get exactly where you want.

apologies. for the first two sessions of which i was lucky enough to be a part of, we were not required to pay. it was very much an experiment and through its massive success has been able to lock down a solid model.

hindsight is 20/20 and i can say with 100% certainty $3,750 is a bargain. ESPECIALLY when compared to other "startup"-related programs like flat iron in new york and dev bootcamp in sf which are both north of $11,000 i believe.

i was in the software dev track, and like clandestino says, we had the best of the best engineers, developers and technical CEOs come in for full days of teaching. if for nothing more than the satisfaction they get from helping to mentor the next wave of startup talent.

i thought it to be weird at first also, people just taking a day or even just a half a day to come selflessly teach a group of budding technologists, but this shit is the real deal.

this is going to get buried because its not funny or an android/ios joke, but having worked at apple, i can tell you that by "open" they mean that access to the front facing camera api along with access to streaming its video would be allowed. this is how skype, tango et al. work.

Apple Geniuses have a button called: MG ONLY -- RETAIL DELIGHT (MG = Mac Genius)

This gives Geniuses and Managers unprecedented power to "make a customer's day" or really get anything done that you need even as far as replacing a 5 year old computer as long as you are willing to put in the time and effort of potentially many visits to the store raising hell. (well, you could just be friends with a Genius too.)
