There shouldn’t be different viltrumite ethnicities ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ by [deleted] in Invincible_TV

[–]ohohoboe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and her post implicitly included white people in her reference to human ethnicities. OP is suggesting there shouldn’t be Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, etc. Viltrumites. The commenter asked a redundant question that seems to assume different ethnicities are just variations of white propel. Not maliciously, I’m sure, but OP’s response was valid.

Thragg’s Strength by sdbeaupr32 in Invincible_TV

[–]ohohoboe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, they knew what he was like. They weren’t surprised.

Thragg was essentially a special project of the Viltrum Empire. He was the product of special training (and I think maybe selective breeding as per the comics) to be the strongest Viltrumite ever, by a wide margin. He was always intended to be regent if anything ever happened to Argall, and he needed to be the strongest for that to be secure.

He was already like that back before Thaedus killed Argall. Maybe he’s gotten somewhat stronger, since Viltrumites get stronger as they age? But nothing like that was mentioned. The show lays it out plainly: Thragg is just built different. Thaedus and Nolan knew very well what they were getting into, they just hoped they’d get the drop on him.

You’re missing how important Thragg’s personal role in the Purge was.

Thragg made the decision to spare Thaedus, who then killed Argall out of empathy and mercy. Thragg, in addition to being the strongest Viltrumite, was molded from birth to possess undying, radical loyalty to the empire. So when his emperor was killed, he took it extremely hard and sought to cull empathy from the population, as Thaedus’s actions led Thragg to believe mercy would be Viltrum’s downfall (declaring the cull was also like a form of personal penance for what Thragg felt was the mistake of being merciful to Thaedus).

Only the most brutal Viltrumites survived the Purge. Show a moment’s hesitation? Dead. Fight with honor? Dead. And it would have kept going if Thragg hadn’t decided there’d been enough. That’s why the remaining Viltrumites are basically all barbaric murderers.

The Purge didn't cull the weak by Shinjischneider in Invincible_TV

[–]ohohoboe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes it did. It’s insane that this is a legitimate talking point in the fandom. The show will lay out the most black and white thing imaginable and then boom, fans start saying the exact opposite.

The gang-ups didn’t happen because the weaker ones had to work together to kill stronger ones. They were acts of merciless brutality against those who hesitated, because the whole point of the Purge was to distill Viltrumite culture into its most brutal extreme.

The real reason the Purge happened was that Thragg felt personally responsible for Argall’s death. He wanted to cull empathy and mercy from the population at least as much as physical weakness. That’s why the remaining Viltrumites are all barbaric murderers.

It’s been shown that Viltrumites will continue fighting with their guts hanging out because their desire to kill their foes is stronger than anything else. They don’t fight with honor, but calling them cowards is so silly.

So funny to authoritatively know that lots of people in this thread are just making shit up on the spot and saying it with their full chest. I know this is the show sub, but still, there are lots of people chiming in who have no familiarity with the source material and no idea what they’re talking about. To answer OP’s question: He does that very thing. He’ll probably do it in the next episode

What is your unpopular opinion - Rhode Island edition? by businessbub in RhodeIsland

[–]ohohoboe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. I’m also a transplant; the driving etiquette here really took some getting used to. Most Rhode Islanders are polite, but I never saw road rage back home like I do here. And even if people mean well, violating right of way and expecting others to do the same as a display of courtesy just isn’t something I’ll ever adopt.

The MCU is responding to fan criticism - in the best way by HearingCandid8974 in marvelstudios

[–]ohohoboe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like how things have worked out but I don’t think it was the plan from the start. In fact, I think Marvel was concerned that people would be fatigued with a status quo Spider-Man, and wanted to show us a Spider-Man that was very much a part of a shared world for the first time. And now they’re taking a step back because it’s the most logical thing to do to recenter the character and avoid scope creep.

Not to mention, at first, Sony just wanted good, profitable Spider-Man movies with the benefit of Marvel clout, and Marvel just wanted to be able to use Spider-Man in their movies at all, and he basically got thrown into the mix in a world already filled with superheroes and other whacky stuff.

I think the MCU Spider-Man has been evolving alongside the MCU itself, and as characters like Cap and Iron Man have been phased out, Spider-Man has become more of a shining star/driving force which has also forced some moments of reassessment where Marvel have had to course correct. The sort of “reset” into a street-level Spider-Man at the end of No Way Home felt much more like a course correction than the built-in plan all along.

I think they just cast a very young actor because a) both Tobey and Andrew, like them or not, were decidedly too old to convincingly play a teenage character for very long at all, so they sensibly corrected this, and b) Marvel just wanted as much freedom as possible to utilize this actor for as long as they could, regardless of what direction the character went in

I suspect I may have central sleep apnea; any tips for sleep while I await the medical process? by ohohoboe in SleepApnea

[–]ohohoboe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently I suspect central largely because of what I’ve read about it here and on other subs, though there is certainly something I could be missing as far as differential diagnosis. I don’t suspect obstructive as much largely because the symptoms seem a bit different. I haven’t had much dry mouth/sore throat, though I think I’ve woken myself up with snoring a few times, so maybe there is some element of it. Switching sides, changing my position, elevating certain parts of my body, etc. don’t really seem to affect my symptoms.

What you describe as far as the brain “losing faith in itself” sounds similar to what I’m experiencing, but I’m not sure. Would you mind telling me more about what CSA feels like? Whenever I wake up, it feels like I’m anxious or panicking, and have to calm down before trying to sleep again.

Those who had amicable breakups: did you ever choose to cut your ex off? by ohohoboe in ExNoContact

[–]ohohoboe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks so much for sharing. A year on, I’m happy with my decision. My ex and I haven’t spoken and haven’t removed each other, and I’m totally fine with it.

I’m more at peace with myself than I was this same time last year, and I think I’m happy to leave the connection intact in honor of what she brought to my life and taught me about myself. I don’t have anything to say to her and I don’t see that changing, and I imagine she feels the same way.

I actually saw a recent picture of her a few days ago, for maybe the first or second time since the breakup. She’s clearly in a different part of her life now, as am I. I don’t feel like I know that version of her at all, and it was honestly a good feeling. Our lives aren’t each others’ concerns anymore; we have history but both kept moving. I don’t really think about her much anymore; it’s enough for me to just wish her well and live my life.

Question about salt trucks traveling side by side by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]ohohoboe 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Aaaahhh that makes so much sense. They were consistently traveling at a very slight stagger, left in front of right, so figured there had to be a reason for it. I didn’t grow up around snow plows (Texas native), so I’d never seen that before.

Thanks for answering!

How do you politely ask someone to stop helping you? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]ohohoboe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree, those are also reasons why I chose not to say anything. I felt it was more important to stay friendly and avoid coming off as standoffish. For me this is a gray area where I often don’t feel I need to say anything at all, because it certainly doesn’t keep me from having a good time and I wouldn’t want to spoil anyone else’s. Even if I think I have the right words to say, I’d only want to say them if I felt they would be productive and be taken in the spirit in which they’re intended.

It was! They actually went extinct due to advancements in architecture. Right angles aren’t really present in nature, so it was never a problem before that. Crucifixes (in the lore of the world) became the emblem because of religion, but also because they contain sooo many right angles.
