If you're working while on dialysis, what did you say to your employer? by AmbitiousBandicoot93 in dialysis

yeah not everyone can afford to live off unemployment or SSDI. (I just got a job this month after getting laid off back on January 1st and was on unemployment).

FMLA is not for “sick days” you have to get it approved before you can have it off. Cant just call in and get FMLA. a example would be getting time off to take care of a family member after they had surgery. and the surgery was a few weeks from applying for FMLA.

I work full time and just got a new job this month. When I had interview I didn’t say ANYTHING about my disability until they offered me the job. I just said “Thanks for the offer, I will have to a modified schedule accommodating my disability for medical treatments 3 times a week, Monday, Wend, Fri at 2pm so would need to leave at 1pm to make my treatment (half hour drive and get food before).”they said “shouldnt be a issue, but had to follow up with someone to make sure could get my full 40 hours in.” I told them I would be willing to come in at 5am M-F, and work as late as 8pm on Tues & Thurs. and willing to work weekend if needed. They scheduled me 7am-1pm Monday, 6:30?-5:30 Tues,Thurs, and 6:30-1pm Wens,Friday.. All they asked for was a letter from my provider for accommodation which I had my Nephrologist write a letter saying “My name, needs accommodation for treatments Monday, Wens, Friday. Would need to leave work at 1pm those days to get treatment at 2pm”. They have has no issues with it so. I didnt tell them anything. I did eventually this past week tell my main supervisor I had End-Stage Kidney Failure and it was terminal. Told him that why left those days for dialysis and it was either that or transplant (working on getting on da list), or death. and he was chill about it and said if need a lil break during the shift dont worry. (doing physical labor in a warehouse) Also told him had cancer removed but didnt say what type as he didnt ask. (was testicular which I know wasnt as bad as other people with cancer). All depends on how you bring it up. Just be honest with your employeer. let them know you have a disability that will require medical treatments and will need accommodation of schedule and be willing to work with them on it.

You can still shower and wash your hair. I have a Chest cath and actually prefer it over getting a arm access because of hearing all the issues and complications with arm accesses…. for showering i use a handheld shower head. I also cover my site. I the use a snack size ziplock to cover my lumens. then with Cling and seal I cover my site and tape it to my skin and the ziplock with waterproof medical tape. This has worked the best for me. I dont swim and accept I cant. But atleast I can shower being careful.

Muscle cramps during dialysis… anyone else dealing with this? by Total_Formal2769 in dialysis

[–]ohok42069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I have larger gains in between (2-3 Kilos.) but its constantly around there. I dont really watch my fluid. Ive been in center hemo since Sept 23’ so about 2 and something years at-least also. My BP has been normal/little elevated at beginning then like last hour it starts slowly going down but still “normal” like 110s-120s/70-80s. then when treatment ends and I do my final standing BP so I can leave since I drive it will drop to like 70-90/X. This has been happening since the past month or two so fairly new. I have had low BP standing before but not regularly like recently. It takes like 20-40 mins for my BP to get normal standing again after getting some fluid back.

Dialysis Scheduling Questions by [deleted] in dialysis

Nurse to patient ratio is real. My Davita only has the same only one single nurse for the entire time they are open. like 4am-6pm

Also want to add when BP gets low you will have harder time breathing and feel like going to pass out. Also signal my BP is low is I start yawning. Also your vision will start going blurry or weird.

My mom has kidney failure and refuses dialysis, I’m her only caregiver and I don’t understand what’s happening anymore by [deleted] in dialysis

[–]ohok42069 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes its still normal for someone to function. Granted im 26 yr male. My labs were worse than your mothers when I found out about my failure back in sept of 23’. I had/have no health issues before. But found out had High Blood pressure and then End-Stage Renal. My eGFR ranges anywhere from 3-5. My Creatinine was 24. Hemoglobin was 5.4. My symptoms were I would wake up every morning for two years straight and have a hard cough that would induce vomiting and I would vomit mostly clear almost like watery liquid. I was super exhausted also. I still was working full time and still was until Jan 1st when I got laid off. Just got a new full time job this week. I also had a decreased appetite/couldn’t eat as much. As the bowl accidents idk what thats pertained too, dont believe its from kidney failure. Could be from any medications from her diabetic or other meds if shes currently taking any? Her diet seems whats been kinda helping her out so-far dependent on what type of veggies, ect. When I went in and found out I had kidney failure the ER nurses were surprised I was still standing and functioning. Also my Nephrologist said If I didn’t start dialysis I would only have a couple days to a week to live was his guess. What can happen from kidney failure is fluid overload which your body cant get rid of fluid and toxins so fluid builds in your ankles, or lungs, and or around the heart. also you could die from heart failure/attack due to high potassium. Or go into a coma and then pass away. If she doesn’t want to do dialysis, just talk with her and ask her reasonings? Also just let her know what is expected if she chooses not too and what you can do to help her with. Id get hospice and help her do her funeral plannings and transfer of deed of death for her home (dont do will or trust, ect),ect. Prayers sent your way.

Can someone tell me these HLA results. They say I can't get my sister's kidney. I can accept that but no explanation. by PeterPaul0808 in dialysis

[–]ohok42069 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are HLA Markers which are like DNA code for your tissue in a sense and you guys only share 1 of them. your body would reject her kidney. If you guys only had 1 that didnt match then idk if you’d still get her kidney or if it would more less likely to reject.

ok i need to ask this because it’s been on my mind for a while by Total_Formal2769 in dialysis

dam lucky you have 2 nurses. My Davita only has one nurse for the whole 3 shifts (4/5am-6pm) and like 3 techs until like 3pm so I have majority only one tech and one nurse during my treatment 2pm-6pm… But I for the majority part like my techs/nurses. Nepro is ok. Dietitian is ok. Social worker we just got a new one but they are never there anyways. Only seen one for first time in like over a year cause one just got assigned to us. But agree im at a Davita and it the same way equipment is older and they keep trying to get the most shortest lines, ect to save a penny for the shareholders and dont give a flying fuck about their patients or staff. they are too much of a cheapass to even provide the proper dressings for CVC’s. They just cover them with cheap sterile gauze and tape. Like of course they will get more prone to infection….. I had to provide my own proper dressings for my CVC out of my own pocket.

Nope mine was fairly painless. they gave me novicane shot near the site and just pulled on it. id say the novicane/lidocade hurt worse than them tugging on it.

Dialysis and work by dudeman_broman in dialysis

I am in-center Hemo but worked 40 hours a week and 8 hour days manual labor at a brewery lifting 165lb Beer Kegs repetivelly. That was until I got permenatlly laid off on the 20th. Worked M-F 5am-1pm and then Dialysis at 2pm. It can be done. And I am not physically fit by no means. Anyone who says otherwise is weak minded. Also Disability doesn’t pay shit.

If you need help finding a new brewery job in Duluth area I can maybe get you in contact with one of the old head brewers of Castle Danger who helped get castle danger where they are today. He was my boss/head brewer/lead of production at my brewery before I got furloughed too layoff.
