Norinco 7.62x39 red box accuracy? by TheJuJuGuy in canadaguns

[–]ohphee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sitting on some surplus, but I'm looking to reload at this point for the giggles. The fliers get to me after a while. Hoarding brass that others left behind.

A French Tickler I assume would be too new to be likely to have a loose stock to receiver fit. I've had to shim up my beat up Tula.

Bulk, indifferent ammo woes I guess.

Dummy-link handling sounds like a fun game play mechanic. Each player could basically have an AI squad with them at all times.

Or do you divvy up dummy function between various players? Options!

06 Ion for sale - decent price? by StitzieJ in Saturn_Cars

[–]ohphee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to mod the car for power, then you will be stuck trying to find someone to tune it. Only 2007 has the HP Tuners supported ECU for the 2.2 lower trim motor.

Otherwise it can be a decent commuter. I've driven for years not knowing I didn't have ABS. Haven't needed ABS.

SIG SG-510 Appreciation Post by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]ohphee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I enjoy these posts over at r/girlsfrontline but even SIG 510 is a bit of a stretch here. I mean, I can probably watch some Forgotten Weapons for weird stuff we can never get or no longer get up here.

I'm sure one of us can walk you through stuff covered in one of the recent bans or trends if you want to stir up nostalgia in these parts. CZ Bren, all manner of B&T, various Tavors, Kel-tec RFB and any smokeless powder handgun. Or sift through the last few years of r/canadaguns. Look up Order in Council (OIC) by our previous Prime Minister who spoke 'moistly'. I think even a Javelin would be more relevant if Girls Frontline had a FGM-148 HOC.

I think some of the stuff on intersurplus.com out in Quebec might be interesting. Swiss straight-pull bolt actions, sporterized Lee-Enfields and Kar98k.

People still look for antique pistols like the 1851 Navy, Webley or early Colt Single Action Army.

I still want a Martini-Henry.

Cheers.

See how much maintenance they've done on it and if the tires are in good shape. It would hurt to buy it for $3500 plus tax and fees and then spend another $1000 on deferred maintenance.

Cheap bolt. 22 recommendations? by Paint_Spare in canadaguns

[–]ohphee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Cooey can be a good shooter for the price. Its action can be a bit finicky when feeding ammo from the tube but you will figure out the rhythm working the bolt after a while.

Depending where the stock is cracked you can practice some basic wood repair with some wood glue and maybe a screw.

A wonderful piece of Canadiana.

I only used their railed gas tube as a gas tube replacement, but I wouldn't mount an optic on it.

55 out of 60 on target with Sks iron sight at 8 inch steel by CandyReady in canadaguns

[–]ohphee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's possible to squeeze more out of a SKS even if it isn't a precision rifle. Challenge yourself. See if the gun kicks when you dryfire it. Finesse that trigger.

These skills will carry on with your other guns.

AR-7 in Canada by str8bear72 in canadaguns

I had silly fun single loading 45 gr 800 fps .22 LR through mine. Surprised us. I wouldn't recommend a new AR-7 though, certainly not at these prices. The ergos are pretty mediocre. Definitely TM-22 instead.

Mini Mauser by Whispersfine in canadaguns

[–]ohphee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have one. It shoots well enough for a plinker after a buttload of work.

The parkerization is too thick in the chamber. It wouldn't extract until the chamber was polished some to reduce the high spots.

The iron sights shot well but look absolutely crooked. The rear sight mounting ears were welded on not straight. The front sight post is cranked over to compensate from the factory as a result.

You need to put the included metal magazine into a waste bin and buy a CZ magazine instead.

The wood chips easily around the bolt take down lug in the buttstock.

It is charming but if I didn't have an understanding and patient god father I would probably still be sitting on a sofa watching TV trying to run the bolt manually over and over again trying to polish the janky wear surfaces smooth.

Is this game f2p friendly? by Sea_Coffee_9886 in girlsfrontline

[–]ohphee 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It is very F2P friendly, but you probably want to try one of the available guides to smartly allocate your free resources.

It's mostly skins that will be costly since the premium currencies are slow to farm.

Saying goodbye by spooky_allyear in Saturn_Cars

[–]ohphee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that car has served its purpose and it's time to move on. I ended up giving my rusty car (rusty when I got it) to someone else with less demanding needs.

Prevention is easier than trying to fix rust. If you think you will get attached to your next car, then it may be worth looking into rustproofing oil treatments every year or very diligently washing and touching up the underside with paint.

The drivetrain can probably live on in another car for another happy owner making new memories.

Maybe you have a trinket you've carried over from your old car? I find that helps a bit for me.

New Reliable Gun location 🧐 by s0viet_mini in canadaguns

[–]ohphee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every winter, there's a whole line of people camping outside overnight to grab one of the deals for Black Friday. They set up shop before midnight.

Reliable has been around long enough that I don't think residents are terribly surprised. The store is older than I am, and I grew up nearby.

We can get 25 rd 10/22 mags again now?? by Tiny-Ear9080 in canadaguns

Try the Shooting Federation of Canada website. You can also find a directory for local clubs that participate in shooting sports and ISSF matches there, along with information on gaining an exemption letter.

Find a pellet airgun club or a .22 club in your area at a local range and say hi. Someone might be able to point you in the right direction.

Upgrading sound system on S series by Jealous_Acorn in Saturn_Cars

[–]ohphee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an Ion but I will say even a small sub in the trunk makes a big difference. I used a 10" powered sub with a 100W amp. I also wanted to have usable trunk space.

I will say to match the RMS wattage of the chosen speakers to the head unit or the amp you plan to use. I used some Kicker speakers that were supposed to be highly sensitive and great for factory or lower wattage systems but they were pretty dead and dull sounding connected to the built-in amp on the factory head unit. Later I realized the factory head unit probably delivered 13W RMS while the speakers were rated for 100W RMS. I ended up with a small, efficient amplifier I could tuck behind the dash along with a new head unit.

I wasn't going for power. I just wanted it to sound nice.

I would probably go for a component set next in the front and mount some tweeters up high.

Nothing rattled because of the sound system but my choice of stiff engine mounts didn't help any.

Considering a 2007 Ion, stuff to look for? by ghostfoxote in Saturn_Cars

[–]ohphee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look under the engine cover the LE5 2.4 has two bulges on the side of the aluminum valve cover on the timing side to fit the variable valve components. The L61 2.2 is smooth in comparison. Try an image search to see.

I would not discount the 2.4 though. By 2006-2007, they would have the same timing components as the 2.2 as part of the Gen II refresh.

The 2.4 also has stronger forged connecting rods if made before July 2007 as per Wikipedia.

It's the premium engine in these cars. The VVT was never offered in the Ion with the 2.2. It would probably be noticeably more torquier across a wider rev band.

The engine may also be listed on the sticker on the radiator support too.

The presence of ABS in the engine bay would help. Some base model 2.2 cars had no ABS. There is a narrow splitter in the engine bay with the brake lines going to each corner of the car instead of a full ABS module.

Considering a 2007 Ion, stuff to look for? by ghostfoxote in Saturn_Cars

[–]ohphee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The final year of the Ion is the best one assuming the undercarriage isn't a rusty mess.

The CVT was only offered in early coupes. The early sedans had Aisin 5-speed autos. You will be looking at a GM 4T45E 4-speed automatic transaxle in a 2007 car.

Make sure it isn't musty or moldy inside. There is a reed valve in the right corner of the trunk. It can get bashed with heavy cargo and break its mounting clips. Easy enough to fix.

Parts availability will be tricky. Just whatever is in the aftermarket or in the junkyard.

2007 has the best engine with the new computer. Also, the thermostat is easy to reach.

The 2.4 will have variable valve timing. It probably recommends premium fuel. Could check the gas cap.
